Why not trade for a dependable kicker?
GASabresIUFan replied to Kingston Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
No one is trading us a kicker now or at anytime this season. If they want to replace Bass it will be a FA signing and good luck finding someone decent. Releasing Bass would cause a $7.38 dead cap hit this season. We can move on after this season for only 3 mill in 2025. Over the last 3 years only 2 teams of 21 to start 0-2 made the playoffs. There are currently 9 0-2 teams. Given that history we can expect one of these teams to make the playoffs. My guess is one of Cin or Balt will turn it around. The "best" thing that could happen is Bass gets "injured" and goes on IR for the season forcing the Bills to find a new kicker. This assumes Bass continues to struggle. Bass is 3/4 with a long of 43 yards and he is 8/8 on XP. -
Long-term future of the Bills defensive backfield?
GASabresIUFan replied to GASabresIUFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Repeating this doesn't make it true. I honestly believe that Beane is taking a wait and see approach to the position. One other note, Douglas is excelling in our system. I'm not sure there is another perfect fit for him elsewhere given his athletic profile and age. -
More proof Josh is overrated. I did find it interesting that Sauce Gardner (and Tre White) were in the loser portion of the graphic above. Also, it's not really a small sample size. Benford was excellent last season as well. Douglas made an immediate impact when he got here. This is Douglas' 13th game as a Bill (regular + playoffs), including 11 starts (1 game inactive). That's not really a small sample size any longer. Benford/Douglas starter together 7 times last season as well.

Long-term future of the Bills defensive backfield?

Maybe for a decent player, but Elam isn't even a decent player. He is a career backup that doesn't see the field. No one is paying 11 mill for such a player. Even if he becomes a starter next year, the Bills won't be keeping him for 11 million. Taron Johnson's second contract was 3 years 24,000,000. -
Bills are winning the battle in the trenches
GASabresIUFan replied to Magox's topic in The Stadium Wall
Did we really need these charts to tell us the Bills are winning the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball? We all watched the games. The Bills have run the ball well, which doesn't happen without the OL winning upfront. Josh has had clean pockets and rarely have teams pressured him through 2 weeks; another sign the line is winning. Groot, Miller, Oliver etc have consistently pressured two explosive QB, shutting down to potent passing attacks and we are holding up against the run on defense. The counting stats show this as well. Advanced analytics are interesting, but most of the time they just confirm what we already knew. -

I'm not losing sleep for Rasul. His career earnings are 25 million and going up from there. I wouldn't begrudge Douglas going for the money, but at the same time, winning is important to these guys. -

It's funny how often the analytics follow the eye test. -
Trade him now while his value is high!!!! 😎

Bills now have the 6th youngest starting lineup in the NFL...

Don’t forget there are 10 rookies on the 53 man roster including 8 draft picks and 2 UDFAs. -
Long-term future of the Bills defensive backfield?
GASabresIUFan replied to GASabresIUFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Like anything else, the answer is it depends. How does Douglas play in the next 15 games? Does Douglas stay healthy? How does Elam play when he gets a chance? What is our cap situation? Does Douglas want to be here or is the biggest payday his only concern? How big is Benford’s extension? Does McBeane think Elam or Ingram could do the job just as well? Ultimately this could be a Gilmore situation in that he takes his services to the highest bidder each year. If so, Beane lets him go, but I don’t think we can say for sure he won’t be back. You may put the odds close to zero, but I’m more in the 50/50 camp. -
Long-term future of the Bills defensive backfield?

By converting most of Douglas’ 1 year contract to a bonus, they were able to lower his cap hit from around 8 mill to 3.3 mill. The remaining money gets amortized over 3 void years, thus the dead cap hits in 25, 26, and 27 even though the player is probably no longer a Bill. -

I almost forgot about him. He absolutely could be in the mix next season. -
Random talking head says something about the Bills
GASabresIUFan replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
This guy has always spouted nonsense. There is no logic in his "take." How can Josh be a system QB when he has played under 3 different OCs with different systems in the last 4 years including one season with 2 OCs and thrived in all of them. -

Josh has a turnover this year. A fumble early in the AZ game. If he had done his research, he'd have noticed that this Brady system is completely different in the passing game than Daboll or Dorsey. More short passes, no go to receiver and more plays to the TE. Obviously part of that is personnel specific, but much of that is also scheme. Josh is the farthest thing from a system QB. -
Long-term future of the Bills defensive backfield?

I’m surprised that no one is talking about the fact that the Bills really only have Bishop as a safety for next year. I don’t think Rapp is worth 3.7 next season. Hamlin and Edwards are FAs. -
Long-term future of the Bills defensive backfield?
GASabresIUFan replied to GASabresIUFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
That was my initial reaction when they restructured his deal instead of extending him, but what if they decided to see how things progress with season with both Douglas and Elam before making a decision. Assuming for arguments sake that Douglas and Benford continue to play at their current level for the entire season. Are they really going to let Douglas walk when they are developing one of best boundary corner tandems in the NFL? -

GASabresIUFan replied to GASabresIUFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
No way they pickup his 5th year option. If he does become the starter, it would be much cheaper given Elam's track record to sign him to some kind of extension. -
I don't know what the stats are and honestly I don't care. The team has played better since Dorsey was fired. The Bills are 9-2 with Brady as OC and the offense wasn't to blame in either loss.

Can't really count on compensatory picks as we have found out the last couple of years. We got screwed out of a 3rd rd pick by the NFL just this past draft. -
Long-term future of the Bills defensive backfield?
GASabresIUFan replied to GASabresIUFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is certainly possible, but Beane typically likes stability and I've also seen it argued the Douglas could convert to safety at some point. -
At CB: The starters are Douglas, Johnson and Benford. Ingram and Lewis are proving to be capable backups at the nickel and dime. Douglas is a UFA after this season, but carries a dead cap in 2025 is already 4.125 and another 1.375 in 2026 and 2027 if not re-signed. The primary backup at boundary corner looks to be Elam. Elam's dead cap if released after this season is 4.356. Johnson is signed through 2027, but there is an out in 2026. Benford is signed through 2025 a very cheap rookie deal. I can see him being extended next off-season. Ingram (27), is also signed through 2025 and is an RFA in 2026. Lewis (also 27) is signed though 2025 as well and then a UFA. So what's the plan? Obviously, Benford, Ingram, Johnson, and Lewis will all return next season. The question is re-sign Douglas and keep Elam as a backup, or let Douglas walk and give Ingram or Elam a shot at the job. My guess is Beane re-signs Douglas for a year and trades Elam for whatever he can get. At Safety Hamlin and Rapp are currently starting and they seem to be doing an adequate job. Bishop and Edwards are now healthy and getting some reps. Edwards has a one year deal and is an UFA after this season. Bishop is signed through 2027 on a rookie deal and is the future at safety. Rapp is signed through 2026 at 3.7 for 2025 and 4 for 2026. Dead cap to move on is only 1.33 in 2025 and 667K in 2026. Hamlin is on the last year of his rookie deal and is a UFA. The only thing I'm certain of here is Bishop will be starter next season. McBeane can clear the rest out if he unimpressed with some or all of the group at minimal cost. Is Rapp's play so far worth 3.7 next season? Would you keep Hamlin? I suspect this will be Edwards only season here. Thoughts?

I feel a turf toe injury is in Bass’ future. Then put him on IR and see what you can add

Given how the teams have played so far this season, the Saints have been the best team. Their net points are 62. No one else is close. Minn is net 28, the Chargers net 35, TB net 21, and the Bills are net 27. Houston in net 8, Sea net 9, and KC net 8. I think Pit being 2-0 (net 15) is a mirage as is Seattle. The Bills, (IMHO), have played the hardest schedule of the 2-0 teams. If I were ranking based on team performance YTD 1. NO 2. Buffalo 3. Minn (they beat SF) 4. Houston 5. KC 6. LAC 7. TB 8. AZ 9. SF 10. Pitt 11. Det 12. Sea

I love the new coach and the team just looks better. Beating UCLA in dominating fashion hopefully is a sign of better things to come.
