  1. My point it - Its far far better than what we have had under Mcdermott the last 6 years
  2. That means you imagine getting to 5 AFC championship games in 6 years and winning 4 of them - I loved it !!! McDermott's teams have fallen far far short of that !
  3. Mcdermott initially coming to Buffalo and adding clear direction to the chaos that was under Rex Ryan was a big positive - but that is apples and oranges to the coaching needed to take a sold team to the point it can win it all = when already given multiple years to do so Yes Mcdermott has won many games the last 5 years - but he has perhaps the top QB AND the top spending owner in football - thats massive !!!! Mcdermott & Beane have both benefited greatly by Pegula being able and willing to write checks to keep the flow of talent in - that will get you into the playoffs annually - does anyone really think with Josh & Pegula in place if we changed from Mcdermott we really would not make the wildcard round of the playoffs?
  4. I was shocked when a reporter asked Dorsey about his play calling in the series near the 7 minutes left in the game mark and up 11 In that series we ran it on 1st down with incomplete passes on 2nd and 3rd down saving a critical minute for the Jets Reporter basically asked didnt he consider running the ball 3x there to run clock and force the Jets into using some timeouts - his response was not a thought at all - he wanted to keep the offense balanced We cant have an OC living in a bubble not differentiating between play calling in the first quarter from calling plays in a 4th qtr with a lead - we will get burned by this
  5. Sounds like a perfect target if we get a chance 6ft 5 310lb NT "People write [negative] stuff about Shamar Stephen, and I get it because everybody just looks at stats," Vikings Co-Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Line Coach Andre Patterson said. "But if you watch film and you ask Eric Kendricks if he had to pick anybody to go to the game with that he'd make sure that guy was there, I guarantee he'd tell you it's 93 because 93 is not going to let anybody get to the second level and block Eric." So, we called up Kendricks. The 2019 All-Pro linebacker wasted no time standing on a table for Stephen. "First and foremost, I just think Shamar is completely underrated and really not appreciated as much as I appreciate him," Kendricks told Vikings.com. "I appreciate Shamar so much because his game isn't very flashy, you know what I mean? He knows what he needs to do; he's going to take on some double teams, he's going to hold his point of attack, and he's going to win his gap."
  6. Which is just a reminder why trying to apply absolute statistics by PFF is an inexact science at best Baseball with its 162 games is the perfect sport for stats and analytics - Pro football not even close
  7. Compensation update: Lions are trading a 2021 6th-round pick to Cowboys for DE Everson Griffin,
  8. Fans??? Try sports writers - it was Larry Felser who led the charge with columns demanding the Bills should draft Flutie #1 overall - and he ended up drafted in the 6th or 7th round. Larry also wrote Jim Kelly could never win a big game before our 1989 playoff game vs Cleveland and demanded Reich should start over the 1st ballot HOF QB
  9. Play your division twice as we do now = 6 games + play 11 of the 12 other AFC teams = 17 games Keeps schedules similar - stops the ridiculous easy/hard schedule - creates a true AFC Champion I have no desire to play NFC teams at the cost of creating major differences in strength of schedules like we have now
  10. Divisions were fine when you had 5 teams /division - you were sure to get a quality Division winner in each. The only worries were the AFC/NFC Central because they only had 4 teams and could sometimes have a Div winner at 8-8. Now with all divisions at only 4 teams its very likely wild cards would have far better record than a division winner. Go back to 3 Divisions and you will get top division winners again. Also let teams in the AFC play only the other AFC teams keeping many of the schedules fairly similar compared to the wild differences between hard/easy schedules we see today.
  11. Look at the other top QB's - Drew Brees, Phillip Rivers, Andrew Luck , Russel Wilson - all went multiple years without making the playoffs often due to cap hell - Belichek makes sure the Pats year after year dont get into cap hell Of course Belichek is better with Brady than without - but Belicheck has designed this entire team both offensively and defensively Brady - plays QB in a great system - has zero to do with anything on the defense Belicheck - designed the defense and the game plans -designed the offense and the game plans - head coach - manages the salary cap -makes all trades - makes all drafts
  12. Its a bit ironic that although the offensive line is the most important unit - it rarely works well in free agency (teams keep their good linmen) and you dont spend top 10 picks on offensive line. Your line needs to be drafted - and you get them 2nd half of rd1, in round 2, rd 3 , rd4
  13. In return for Peters we received Eric Wood (for 5 yrs on a rookie deal) + the millions in salary cap freed up each yr in not having highest paid LT in football
  14. What many who love analytics wont admit is that football is very different from baseball - baseball with a huge sample size of 162 games and performance less dependent on teammate is a perfect sport to analyze and break down statistically. Football has none of that - its useful when looking at team 4th down trends, 1st down trends etccc but its far less useful when trying to show individual A is better than individual B by looking only at stats
  15. Kelly started 1986 Kelllys line was Will Wilford, Jim Richter, Joe Devlin Kent Hull & Ken Jones - thats 2# 1's....2#2's...and Kent Hull a quality free agent from the USFL - they later drafted John Fina in rd1 & Ruben Brown in rd1 as guys retired or left in free agency Huge mistake by Ralph Wilson/Littman was not locking up Will Wolford - in the middle of our run we got weaker at OT....killer House Ballard was a special situation that we were able to draft him virtually a year early in rd 11 due to his eligibility - he comes out the following yr he is a 3rd rd pick at latest The point is all thru Kelly era he had at least 2 1st rounders on the offensive line - right now we have NONE....and most of our playoff drought was because we ignored the lines while drafting RB's and WRs with no lines to block for them
  16. They made it a priority - Decastro & Pouncey were drafted in 1st round (18th & 24th) and Marcus Gilber is 2nd rd...... compare to us - Dawkins 2nd rd & Miller 3rd & Teller 5th rd.... You dont need every Off lineman drafted in rd1 - but Pitt 'gets it' with 2 #1's and a #2 as the core of their 5 We should right this ship by drafting OL in rd1 and rd2 - then we got something - every skill player benefits and suddenly looks better Bills Off Line in Kelly era - Jim Richter rd1, Will Wilford rd1, Ruben Brown rd1, John Fina rd 1 Joe Devlin rd2 One of the biggest draft mistakes we made - 1994 we had a #1 and 3 #2's.....we take Jeff Burris, Lonnie Johnson, Bucky Brooks , Sam Rogers (ignore off line) while Dallas walks away with powerful OG Larry Allen in rd2,
  17. Lesson learned - when our offensive line wins the battles we (QB & RB & WR) all do better - we will face better defensive lines - top priority in our draft has to be top off lineman in rd 1 and another in rd2 - enough of the WR talk in rd1
  18. It does not matter at all "who they were interested in " - the bottom line is they landed nobody because they didnt make it a high enough priority (ie offer them more $$$) - this whole thread is related to what priority (or not priority) they have paid to surrounding our QB with the help to allow more likely success. Not paying enough to land a solid veteran QB to play that mentor role just proves they didnt give it high enough priority - similar to QB coach where they threw a WR coach at that role
  19. I dont need an article about a KC coach - we know they are doing it right. Im sure there is no SI article about how the Bills have cultivated an atmosphere here for our QB position - Dennison already fired and we have a WR coach as a first time NFL QB coach AGAIN - ANDY REID is the KC Chiefs coach/offensive coordinator - he needs no help - he is proven - WE HAVE NOTHING LIKE THAT ON OUR OFFENSE We have a power house coaching staff on the defensive side and surprise surprise we keep playing over our heads on that side of the ball - gee ya think coaching over there makes a difference when we have Leslie Frazier & Mcdermott with great experience? You think its a coincidence that those 2 safeties are playing better than they were advertised? That Tre White plays as if he is a 5th overall pick rather than in late 20s?? Coaching in this league matters big time. All Im saying is the OFFENSE needs that same quality staff - and Pegula (unlike Ralph) is willing to pay for it - go get it !!!
  20. Last I checked we dont have Andy Reid as our head coach/offensive coordinator - we had Rick Dennison last year and a rookie OC this yr out of the Alabama ground.pound system, Andy Reid is so good and so long proven he can have captain kangaroo as his QB coach under him
  21. Its absolutely ridiculous you keep comparing back to marrone. Marrone era was under Ralph Wilson who would not pay for top coaching staffs - this is a new era under Pegila where he will properly pay for the coaches requested ! - also under Marrone we were not grooming a QB we spent the 7th pick overall on plus gave up Cordy Glenn & two #2's to obtain .
  22. And this by a group who knew from day 1 they were gonna gather up draft picks so to trade up to get a franchise QB to be the key to everyones future - and you surround the kid with this staff? Just seems so odd...
  23. And keep in mind this WR coach was hired last year with Offensive Coordinator Dennison who was a flop - again what type of coaching was being received by our QBs last year?? Just mind boggling in this day and age to have such lackluster hiring
  24. Exactly right !!! - Especially when you are Pegula willing to open the pocket book for the best QB coach you couild find. Instead of going into the college ranks for a creative Qb coach we use a WR coach from the NFL who will offer nothing new - it smacks of total focus on defense but blind to the offensive needs Are you kidding? Why didnt we just sign a 'well respected' linebacker coach who maybe coached QBs in 1984 (when college football was 3 yrds and a cloud of dust)
