  1. If you draft a top OT out of college and he beats out Bell then you move Bell to RT. Not saying that happens his rookie season but I think to improve th overall talent on the line, and on the team, we need to draft a legitimate LT coming out of college ... not another project that could develop in 3 years. That said, if Bell were beaten out by another LT he could certainly move to RT. This myth that you must be a "big mauler type" (whatever that really is?) is a stereotype for big tackles that are not athletic enough to play LT. It does not preclude Bell from moving to RT should be acquire a LT that is better. I think Bell is improving (and adequate) but if am going to spend a premium draft choice on a OT I and not going to pick a RT only option. (See Mike Williams).
  2. Can't argue with you. Parcells is a football guru who would have it no other way than complete control. Nix is a scout that is taking a shot at GM.
  3. Interesting video. 5 man front, we were looking pass and they executed a run perfectly. 1. Kelsey the OLB was the 5th pass rusher. He blew containment, took a soft wide outside rush and got blown out. Peterson read that block and went wide instead of between the tackles, probably thoight he could easily run over the CB. 2. McKelvin did not read the play at all (his football sense is lacking) and he followed the WR, taking himself out of the play. 3. Poz was playing pass, made the read from ILB, then took a very bad angle to Peterson who is just too fast for that mistake. 4. Whitner and Byrd were way too deep as usual so there was no safety help. Minnesota executed perfectly and had the talent in Peterson to turn a 6 yard play into a TD.
  4. Bell is the ONLY player on the roster that is even close to what an NFL LT should be and that is a BIG PROBLEM. I would draft a tackle early in the draft, hopefully one talented enough to push him or replace him. Either way, the rookie or Bell could improve us just by moving to RT, which is in even worse shape (Wrotto, Howard, Wang - yuck). Our first pick should address LB or pass rushing DE (goodbye Maybin). Second or third should be an OT that projects as a starter in the NFL. We should also shore up these areas with free agents. That is a huge myth. RT's are definitely less athletic than LT's but that does not mean that an LT cannot succeed at RT. There is nothing required in most offenses that says RT must be bigger and slower and stronger. When they happen to be too slow to move well enough to be an LT they simply default to RT. There are plenty of big, strong LTs in the league, they just happen to be able to move quickly. Bell is big enough to play either position.
  5. When the Patriots went from 2-14 losers to winners it took a few years but they did it this way: 1. Bring in Parcells and improve the front office, the scouting, and the coaching. 2. Draft better players - concentrate on with the trenches 3. Change attitude from losing to winning 4. Parcells leaves - Bring in Bellichek - they actually traded a #1 draft pick to the Jets for him 5. continue smart drafting - luck out with Brady in round 6. 6. The year the cheated the Rams out of a Super Bowl they brought in lots of low priced, experienced, veteran free agents, many of which had gas in the tank to fill holes. 7. Continue to rely on the draft and stockpile picks - trade or release players that don't fit in, or they are unwilling to pay big dollars for
  6. The only TE we have that can block well is Martin and he is not a threat to get open and catch. Both tackles needed help from a TE or a back last week. Bell had his hands full with Allen, and Wrotto is just a below average fill in so you can expect some problems on RT. The spread offense eliminates the TE and relies on the QB and speedy WRs to outnumber the defense, make the right reads, and hit the open man for a quick gain. Fitz can do it. On many plays there are "unblocked defenders" and it is up to Fitz to know who that is and counter with a quick pass. Also requires the "hot" reciever to be ready for the quick pass. This is something that Edwards could not do and Fitz is actually good at it. Still, I prefer to see some TE formations on our team. Right now the TE is practically eliminated from Chan's offense. What we don't know is does Chan not use the TE very much by philosophy or are they not used because we don't have the right talent?
  7. Me too. I think Nelson couild be the next star WR for the Bills.
  8. Moats would start on another team? Which one? At best he is ST and back up. He shows some potential though. Poz is legit. Davis can pay the run. Torbor is a good backup. Coleman is a ST/ backup like Moats. Maybin will be lucky to even make the Bills next season. Ellison, Ayodele and Kelsey need to all go.
  9. So all I have to do is read that magazine and I can become a GM. Wow!!! Leonard was a good player with Buffalo but faced stiff competition to make the team. He is better with the Ravens/Jets because he is in a system that fits him, is surrondeed by players, and Buddy Ryan coached him up. He fits Ryan's system perfectly. Leonard would have trouble getting reps with the Bills.
  10. Sure, and we can talk to Bob Lily, Alan Page, and Buck Buchanon too. Seriously, if Pat keeps playing I would think he would stay in Minnesota or go to a contender.
  11. Still asking the question Ramius? I don't think that a logical person would believe that sending a twitter message will cause you to drop passes. You simplify the point too much which kills the point you are trying to make. In the case of Stevie Johnson, there are many people who believe that he had been distracted for several weeks. He spent a lot of time with what looked to be overblown celebrations, tweeting, media apperances, etc., and then he played a bad game and basically let the team down when it counted. His own coach gave him a not-to-subtle message on humility. Some players can be in the spotlight and thrive. Maybe Stevie will be the next Neon Deion Sanders but I doubt it. So, you can send a tweet tomorrow and play football on Sunday and not effect a thing.
  12. No way. Every time I hear his name I think of George Costanza.
  13. ? Not sure what you are talking about? Ralph and Bid Adams are the the only ones left from the Foolish Club. Ralph is the only one to stay put and not sell. Lamar Hunt started the AFL and owned the AFL's Dallas Texans (now the Kansas City Chiefs), while the Houston Oilers (now the Tennessee Titans) were Bud Adams' franchise. The other six members of the "Original Eight" were Harry Wismer (the Titans of New York, now the New York Jets), Bob Howsam (Denver Broncos), Barron Hilton (Los Angeles Chargers, now the San Diego Chargers), Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. (Buffalo Bills), Billy Sullivan (Boston Patriots, now the New England Patriots), and Chet Soda (in a group of eight) (Oakland Raiders).
  14. Come on now. Those Viking Cheerleaders surprised a lot of folks. :0 I agree that Fitz got knocked around too much. Hangartner has the same mentality. He has been in a few scrums this year.
  15. From what I saw he could have learned these things, in this order: 1. Preparing for a talented team on the road in a dome takes more work. 2. LT position not as good as he might have thought. 3. More talent and depth needed on OL. 4. McKelvin might just be the dumbest player in the NFL. 5. Hangartner is a valuable part of the team. 6. Nelson could end up his best WR. 7. 10 ways to use a TE if only he had one. 8. McCargo is as bad as he thought. 9. Find me some linebackers Nix! 10. Those Viking Cheerleaders sure look good.
  16. They didn't dump Coleman, he is injured and out for the seaosn as is Ellison and Davis. Considering we released Mitchell by injury settlement, and then cut Ellis we are very thin at LB.
  17. Jets. I simply hate the Pats* with all my might. Brady especially. Today is Teddy Bruschi Appreciation Day, another reason for the Pats to lose. Not just lose, lose big hopefully. Can't stand Bellichek or Kraft either. I am not a Jets fan but since they started wearing their late 60's throwbacks I always think about the AFL and Joe Namath when I see them. As a kid I loved the AFL teams. I will tell you this ... Everyone that rooted for an AFL team rooted for the Jets in SB III and the Chiefs in SB IV.
  18. 1. Trading Lamonica and Glenn Bass for Tom Flores and Art Powell. I want that trade back. 2. Letting Ahmad Raschad go because he wanted a $20,000 raise. That was a bad move. 3. Cutting Gary Anderson - that turned out to be a bad move too. Oh well. there was nothing wrong with McGee, epsecially back then, he was one of the best players on the team. They should have kept Greer and not drafted McKelvin.
  19. Actually gaurds are hired to be backup or emergency centers. Many gaurds get reps at center. Your idea of using Sanborn and snapping the ball 15 yards deep on every play is absurd to say the least. Levitre had been working some at center in practice. It was baptism by fire but that is just the way it goes.
  20. Great topic. Something that has never been discussed on TSW before.
  21. Tell it like it is Bill. 1 - Fitz is good and he is a warrior. I would still draft Luck if he were sitting there for us. 2 - Johnson = average possesion reciever. 3 - Bell is playing ok but I would not hesitate to draft a stud LT and try Bell at RT. BTW - Fina was much, much better. 4 - Lets draft the "BPA in a position of need". If have to stop drafting CBs and RBs. 5 - (McKelvin + Clements) < Winfield 6 - Lee was invisible when we needed him, as usual. I think they were focusing more on Johnson. 7 - Chan has a big job ahead of him. 8 - Poz is the best LB we have, and that is a problem. Most of the others could not make a decent NFL defense. 9 - Donte = more bad plays than good plays. That was their QB he fell on after the whistle. 10 - Right side of the line: Urbik, Howard, Wrotto = a smorgasboard of Practice Squad level talent. 11 - Keep the faith. We only need to replace about 8 starters to contend for playoffs (LT, RT, TE, DE, ILB, OLB, CB).
  22. He looks like a boy out there. How do you take him over Orakpo?
  23. If not LB then we could go DE or DT too. We need to address the front 7 and find some playmakers. OT and TE also need attention. I would not mind trading down and getting more picks, adding another 2 and 3 would be awesome.
  24. On the simulataneous catch they could not call offensive pass interference because penalties are not part of the review process. Recall the interception by Corner in the end zone versus Pittsburgh. There was offensive pass interference on that play too. On today's play I thought they made the right call. Both of them had it and the offensive player came down inside the pylon. Since the ball is awarded to the offense it was ruled a TD. I wish Whitner would have blown everybody up and knock the ball loose, he tried for the ball too.
