A Few Thoughts About The Game
Bob in STL replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really think the difference in the game was the pass rush they had and one we did not have. It was a factor on both interceptions and the blown drive at the end of the 2nd quarter. Another good post aided by whiskey and The Dead. -
Seems to now be the Harbaugh / Schwartz thread
Bob in STL replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree. He said he shook his hand too hard, almost as if to say Schwartz couldn't handle it. Harbaugh has always been an arrogant guy. Even as a QB when he was a bum for most of his career. -
Really, Pop Warner huh. I never knew that playing cornerback in the NFL was so easy. You mean following those super athletic WRs with world class sprinter speed is so easy that you can do it while not ever looking at them. Wow. Not to excuse Florence for a dreadful day but my bigger concern is the pass rush. There were plenty of plays that our Pop Warner corners must have had pretty good coverage and for a long time too because Manning had all day to throw. Compare the pressure that Fitz had on him and the pressure that Manning had and there is your ballgame.
-
The front 7 had no pressure at all. Manning was flushed from the pocket twice and he tossed the ball away with no problems. Other than that nothing. Our DBs were forced to cover for long periods of time. All this love for Moats and Batten, I saw nothing special by either of them today. Compare to the Giants defense that had constand heat on Fitz all game. We really missed Williams, Merriman and Kelsey today. (Yes, that Kelsey).

Is there any doubt we need a FRANCHISE QB ?
Bob in STL replied to Reed'scatch83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OK, Fitzy has come back down to earth but I think we can win with him. Of course, if you are drafting and a franchise QB is there you take him. Take the best player on the board always and every single time. -
Lets look at the postives of today

We held a team to less than 30? (hey, I'm trying ) -

Harbaugh is an azz. This will not be the only time this happens. -
The refs did not cost us the game. Yes, they missed the call on Freddie but we had plenty of opportunities to overcome that call. Florence was putrid today and deserving of all his penalties. What a poor game for a veteran player to have. Had he turned around on the last pass interference he would have had an easy pick. We did not make any enough big plays today. McKelvin had a nice break up on the play before winning FG, how nice an interception would have been? The story of this game is no pressure on Manning, and tons of pressure on Fitz. Fitz had two picks on underthrown balls and Manning none. Don't blame the zebras for this one.
-
Whether you run or pass you need to execute properly and protect the ball. Fitz did neither so that is on the coach? Just remember the book of Dick Jauron. Three runs up the middle, FG, kickoff, Giants march 80 yards for the winning TD. I personally would have run a few plays to burn some clock, but throwing to the endzone on 3rd and long would be an option too.

Since the score was tied I assume you are implying they had 3 points in the bag but we saw them get knoocked out of FG range in the 2nd quarter so nothing was certain. One penalty, one sack and who knows? I am not sure if Chan made the call or if Fitz made the call but Stevie was open and a properly executed play would yield either 6 points or an overthrown pass. I put this on Fitz. Poorly executed plays are always subject to scrutiny as this one surely is.

So I guess you missed the whole point on what Davis is doing for Sheppard?

Levitre Ranked best guard in nfl through 5
Bob in STL replied to Billshank Redemption's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
His benching in preseason was one of three things: a. A kick in the azz to bring him to the realization of his talent b. An excuse to see Rhinhart play with the first unit. c. both of the above I'll will pick c. -
FG? I would have ran another quick count QB sneak. Wood was a monster and Fitz is reliable and tough enough to get the job done. Since you are at the mercy if the zebras spotting the ball, you really need to have a positive push on the LOS. Wood and Urbik could get it.

A Few Thoughts About The Game
Bob in STL replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great thoughts in any order. I saw Wood blast a lot of people yesterday and yes, Hairston looks like a mauler. Playing over our heads? Yes, I would say so but they expect to win because their coach told them he expects them to win. Setting high expectations is the first step towards achievment. -
Kyle Williams Injury?
Bob in STL replied to bills_fan_in_raleigh's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Inside tackles do not usually put up great numbers, their job is to eat up space and blockers. Stats aside, Kyle has played very well and the middle of our defense has been solid. Watch the game closer and you will see he creates pressure and swallows up blockers. Kyle is a fantastic player that EVERY team would love to have and that opposing coaches account for. He is one of our best players. Berman talks about how the Bills are getting strong uo the middle on both sides of the ball and he is right. Williams is one big positive on this team. -
George Edwards needs to at least be demoted
Bob in STL replied to Doc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lets not forget that Vick cranked up 500+ yards against San Fransico and lost the week before. There were so many plays that the Bills defense covered well and then Vick made big yardage by either moving in the pocket and buying time, or running the ball himself. Take away those plays, plays that few QBs can consistently make, and the numbers get a bit better. Sure, our defense needs work but the game is changing and more teams are piling up big yardage every week. -
Fans in Toronto? Just as knowledgeable? Please. Our game against Miami up there was practically a road game. That place is a morgue. Now that the Bills are playing well amd winning so I guess they are easier to love. I look at this game and it hurts to see us playing a very good team like Washington on a nuetral site. The Ralph is once again becoming a scary place for visitors and I hate to see us wasting a home game.

I was a huge critic of the OL in the off season. I am still concerned about the depth but so far RG Rhinhart filled in nicely for Urbik, and the rookie Hairston held up well at LT in place of Bell. They are getting it done so far. kudos

This team could very well fade out and the naysayers will have their day. Right now we have a team that plays to win and I love it. They played hard last year when they started 0-8 and they continue to play hard while they are winning. Things have turned because they make more big plays. Trent Dilfer said today that the Bils play "clean football", meaning they execute their gameplan with few mistakes or turnovers. He said they are well coached. I think he is right. Talentwise they are not an elite team but they are improving and getting better. The people calling for the firing of the DC (Edwards) are clueless. This will not help anything. We have Wannstedt on the staff and if you folks think he is not involved you are crazy. He is not going to take a backseat to Edwards. Wanny is doing evertything he can to help, he is a competitor and he is the ASSISTANT HC - meaning he outranks Edwards in the organization and is responsible for the defense. Next week is a very tough road game. It will be a challenge. Go Bills!

Ok. We aren't perfect, not even close. We could be 1-4 but we are not, we are 4-1. I have been wacthing football a very looooonnnng time. Take the plays when you make them. Take the wins when you get them. We have sucked for too long to worrry about sytle pionts. Lets build a winning attitude ... EXPECT to win and you will. This years Bills are not going to steam roll to the playoffs, they will struggle to get there, they might not get there. Ok? You can enjoy the wins or not. Your choice.
