There’s a reason why NYJ got rid of him, why he couldn’t get on the field in KC, and why he’s currently a FA going into July. Since leaving Pittsburgh he has yet to rush for over 100 yards in any game. I really think he’s a few steps too slow from what he used to be and that he greatly benefited from the offensive system/OL in Pittsburgh. The year away for football at the peak of his career probably hurt a bit as well. On paper it would like signing him would be a huge move based into he back that he was, but I’m hardly convinced that he’s better than Moss or Singletary in their 3rd and 2nd years respectively. I’m actually not convinced he would be the best RB on ANY roster in the NFL. In the end, the Bills may have gotten lucky by not signing him

I wouldn’t say he’s the best. At one time you might be able to say he was. There’s names on that list that I would take over a heathy Gilmore

A closer look at Boogie Basham
JohnNord replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Basham excels at 3TDT then the Bills are really going to have an interesting situation when Ed Oliver’s rookie deal is up. -
I was listening to OBD yesterday and started thinking about Steve Tasker’s career. How do you explain his brief career resurgence as an offensive weapon during the 1995 and 1996 seasons? At that time Tasker was a special teams who rarely played on offense. So little that he never had double digits receptions. He also was about 33 years old at that time and his best years physically were behind him. Yet he became a solid contributor on that Bills as a kick returner, receiver and even an effective rusher on reverses. While he was never a star, you can argue that he was the difference maker in a playoff win versus Miami. I know there is a story of Jim Kelly lobbying to use Tasker on offense, only to get shot down by Marv and Bruce DeHaven. I was never sure if that was entirely true or just and exaggeration. Either way, why do you think Tasker was had these blips after hardly ever playing offense in his previous 12 years in the NFL?

There’s a bit of revisionist history with Teller. When traded him, he couldn’t come close to beating out Quentin Spain.

My guess is that he’s assuming EJ wouldn’t have the unreasonable expectations of being a 1st round franchise QB on him. As a mid-round pick there might have been a chance that he could have been slowly groomed into a backup position, as opposed to a starter. I know that EJ’s confidence was completely shot in Buffalo because he was being cast for a position he never should have been in. But I think it was far from the only reason that he failed in the NFL

My take is that this is a lot of revisionist history on Whaley’s part designed to paint him in a positive light. I do believe that Nix was hell bent on finding a QB but I have a hard time thinking that Whaley was not on board with the move. First there’s that video of him taking credit for the selection. Then the next season Whaley doubled down on EJ by drafting Sammy. Finally when it was pretty clear EJ was a bust Whaley, who was still GM at the time, never distended himself from the EJ section. These don’t look like the moves of someone who wasn’t on board with EJ as QB.

He chose a jersey number to match his goal for receptions this season. I’ll take the under -

Best 5 Offensive Lineman Could Be Interesting
JohnNord replied to All I Need is Hope's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the fans that are calling Brown to start at RT are jumping the gun quite a bit. It sounds like he was a long term projection coming out of college, so he’ll need to have a helluva preseason to unseat Williams. If we’re taking 2022, then I definitely think starting is a possibility then. But like most picks this year, I don’t think he’ll be an immediate contributor in 2021 -
I stopped reading once this character tried using the transitive property to prove his logic. The fact that one team lost by fewer points to the same thing, hardly means they are the better team. Faulty logic

Diggs played with torn oblique in playoffs?

This could explain why struggled to get off the line versus physical CB’s against Baltimore and KC. Man the entire WR room was banged up outside of McKenzie -
1988 Buffalo Bills -1st Division Title since ‘80
JohnNord replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1988 was a great year. One of my earliest memories as a fan was watching the Bills host the Oilers. There was definitely a buzz around the team in the Buffalo area then. Such a fun time -
If I’m Brandon Beane, I probably pick up the 5th year option. But like I said in my original post, the excuses need to stop. He’s been very inconsistent and regressed this season. In year 4 he needs to pick it up or else the team will be looking for a new MLB in 2023

Bills fans were up in arms over the signing yesterday based on some terrible looking film. But if he’s as bad as some believe, there’s a chance he might not even make the final roster. I’m going to wait and see how he transitions
