This seems like a pretty honest evaluation from someone who admittedly was a Tremaine supporter. I agree that they’ll pick up the option for year 5 but he REALLY needs to show something in 2021. All excuses go out the window By keep, do you mean sign him to a second contract that puts him among the top 5-10 highest paid at his position? Or just keep him for years 4 and maybe 5 of his rookie contract and then decide? At what point does age NOT become an excuse? 23? 24? 34?
-
Yeah pretty much. There wasn’t another media member others would recognize. Tried to keep it simple but I understand where the confusion comes in
-
You should know what you have in a development prospect after 3 years. Quarterback is the toughest position in the NFL and we are pretty certain we know what we have in our developmental QB. Time is running out for Edmunds....tick....tick....tick
-
I don’t think “terrible” is the word but I think that most feel that Edmunds is average to below-average at times. That’s fine but not when you traded multiple draft picks to take him in the first round. And not when you had so many crowing about his athleticism. I don’t think you can say that the jury isn’t out on Edmunds. He has a long way to go I’m not as confident but we’ll see
-
I’ll disagree about the first two seasons. White seems to have made a much bigger impact, at least in season2, than Edmunds did in any of his first 3 The concern there is that the Bills defense was still gashed with Star and Edmunds in the lineup in 2019. I do think Star will help but I don’t think he suddenly solves all the problems and play at MLB is a big issue. Edmunds needs to get better
-
He had 1 stop against San Francisco on 4th and goal. It was a really nice goal line stand that he made. Outside of that hit, it’s hard to remember another one
-
Exactly, Bills fans are with Edmunds where I did not want to be with Josh Allen at the end of year 3, before the season started. The problem with Edmunds is that because of his physical talent and because of the issues at DL, we still don’t know exactly what we have on him at MLB. That means that Brandon Beane is going to take a leap of faith about his option. My guess is that he picks it up, especially because he was a first round pick that the Bills traded up for.

Not sure I few that strongly. The potential is there but I didn’t see it this season

Over the past few days, Bills Twitter has been split over Tremaine Edmunds. The Case for Edmunds: WGR’s Nate Geary and Cover 1’s Erik Turner Both have defended Edmunds and believes that he isn’t the problem. They have also said THE excuse - he’s 22! Also feels he’s a scapegoat and suffering from having a poor DL. To be fair the stuff about the DL is a good argument but I’m not sure that’s the entire issue. The case against Edmunds: Majority of Bills Twitter They will point to weakness Edmunds has shown in run support, how easily he can get fooled and lost in space, and the lack of overall impact plays. Maybe this group doesn’t know the X and O’s but they see a player who appears to have struggled on the field quite a bit. My take I normally agree with Nate and Erik but as of February 2021, I’m skeptical that Edmunds will ever live up to his potential in the defense. I don’t think he got much better and while the issue of the DL and injuries are valid, I just don’t think he’s shown that he’s a special player. I’m really hoping we see a different player because after next year there are no more excuses. No more....”but he’s only 22.” Because after 4 years the excuses need to stop. Many here were not high on Josh last offseason and look what happened. So you never know....but we need to see more. PRO EDMUNDS Against Edmunds:

I’m sure the Jets want a late first but based on Darnold the past two season, I’d be surprised if anyone gave up more than a 3rd. For a team to trade a first round pick they really need to be convinced of that player’s ability. I don’t think that any team would risk a first on Darnold. A 3rd round pick would be a different story

I think that most GM’s were prepared for $175M but were anticipating $180M. The extra $5M will definitely help but like someone pointed out it’s still over $10M less than expected before COVID

Everyone is different. Many NFL players don’t want to see that beat them with the championship. Like I said, it’s common. To your point, I highly doubt the reason fans won’t support KC is because they felt they were dirty. They just don’t want to see them win - I don’t either! And your point about Gronk - want that like 4 years ago? Who cares? If Bills players can forgive Gronk for something stupid then why shouldn’t fans? The way I see it, some fans see a KC win as the lesser of two evils due to their hate of New England. They can stand the fact that Bills fans want to cheer for Tom Brady. Personally, I could care less. I’m hoping Brady wins his 7th ring
-
I won’t root for Kansas City because I want them to lose....and because their fans have become arrogant as shizznit. It’s getting to Patriot-like levels, where you want to see a team lose so their fans can get knocked down a peg. With that being said, I didn’t think KC was playing that dirty. The toss of Diggs was a dirty plan and was rightfully flagged. Either way... Go Buccaneers! Let’s go Brady Why is it confusing? Fans don’t want to see the team that just beat them down win the Super Bowl. It seems pretty natural to me

Thanks for clearing that up but I still don’t agree. Coordinators don’t really get the benefit of the doubt as compared to head coaches. If you struggle for on year there’s a good chance your job is in jeopardy. As far your points about Edwards - the stats don’t support it. The Bills were ranked 28th in team defense in 2010 and were still pretty bad. Many had called for Edwards to be fired and the defense was lifeless compared to the offense. In 2011, the defense was ranked 30th. How is that a jump? I even remember Chan’s fateful words for firing Edwards “this is a production business.” Under Wannstedt they were still terrible but were actually slightly better finishing at 26th overall. So I can’t buy the argument that Edwards was a good choice for defensive coordinator. He really wasn’t good As far as Chan sucking as HC this is one reason why. He should have fired Edwards after year 1 or atleast replaced him with someone outside of the organization that wasn’t involved with coaching one of the worst defense in the NFL. That’s why I like about a coach like Sean McDermott. He always has made the right decision on coaches. If a coach struggled, he isn’t one to keep them like Chan did with Edwards. We’ve seen this many times with Rick Dennison, Danny Crossman, Juan Castillo, Terry Robiske etc.

I disagree..... Gailey was a very bad hire which is why he was canned four year later - and really should’ve been fired after year 3. Keep in mind at that the time there were a number of big name coaches available in college and NFL - as well as your usual “hot” coordinators. Who did Ralph hire for one of the most important roles in the organization? The unemployed coach sitting on the couch for two years because no one wanted him. The only good thing you can say about Chan is that he put together a good offense with limited talent that was fun to watch. As a head coach he was terrible. 100X worse at game day management than McDermott who is much maligned by the fan base. Chan also was bad with coaches. Refused to fire George Edward when he should have and then when he did fire him he replaced him with an incumbent coach (Wanny) who was part of the problem. Chan = great guy. Good OC. HORRIBLE HC
-
That’s partially true... RCW or Littman were notoriously stingy when it came to coaches. Not just with salaries but also with relinquishing any power. Coaching and scouting staffs were very thin - likely because whoever pulled the purse strings was cheap AF. Not a problem with the Pegulas as owners years later. The salary cap was well established by this time. They Bills spent on free agent they just picked the wrong players and gave them bloated contracts. Marty likely would not have a say in this process so you could be right
-
Its very possible though I do feel that Ralph had final say on a lot of major issues like coach and GM. I don’t think Buddy Nix is named GM in 2010. By then Ralph only wanted to hire people that he personally knew to run the team. If Russ Brandon truly had the power to hire a GM, I don’t think he settles on Nix. Think back to the drought years - especially lost Donahoe - because Ralph horribly mismanaged the Bills so badly
-
Thats true. He wouldn’t have last long term but I think it really is telling that Ralph Wilson was more “comfortable” hiring a re-tread, unproven, and non-threatening head coach in Chan Gailey then he was hiring someone with the track record of success like Marty. I hated the Nix and Gailey hires right from the bat. It was clear that Ralph didn’t care about putting a winning product on the field - though he cared about the Benjamin’s

Cole Beasley featured in new GrubHub commercial

Kind of a random assortment of players with no connection to one another, other than the fact that they are all football players -
I came across this info on Twitter today. Sad new for Marty Schottenheimer as it appears he has been moved to hospice from his issues with dementia. Someone shared this article from Tim Graham in 2010 where Marty said he wanted to be the Bills HC with Buddy Nix (who he worked with in SD) Ralph for some reason was not comfortable with him and would never consider it. If Marty is HC in 2010 do you think he turns around Buffalo? If you look at his record, he was able to turn around every franchise, with the exception of his 1 year stint in Washington. I also always found it to be odd that he he never was given a second chance in the NFL after going 14-2 as the top see in the AFC. https://www.espn.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/9487/marty-schottenheimer-wanted-bills-gig

Derek Carr reportedly in demand, could lead to trade
JohnNord replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Interesting idea but who gives up two #1’s to begin with for Carr? -
Ive thought about Deion Jones in the Bills defense before. He really is the perfect player. I don’t really know why Atlanta would trade him but I feel he would fit in really well. I’m all for letting Edmunds walk.

LOL...the Fish naming CO-offensive coordinators...

That is my view. When he started Tua it should’ve been all about the future. They should have thrown him out there to sink or swim. Miami fans will lead you to believe that he was coached conservatively. I just think Chan called plays based on his ability - which at this point in his career is limited. I thought that pulling Tua was a terrible idea. Not keeping him on those situations eliminated any insight as to how he’d perform in those situations
