  1. I think it’s pretty certain they take a slot wr myself, having McKenzie and the rookie compete for the slot role. I can’t see the Bills just rolling with McKenzie, it’s too much of a gamble, and they didn’t pay him like they are going to lean on him. To be clear, I like McKenzie and would love to see him succeed. I just see the Bills hedging their bets a hit with the slot role.
  2. D Williams came on with us his second year removed from injury on a prove it type contract. This looks to be a similar approach. Not a bad idea, especially if it pays off. I can’t imagine the Bills don’t have a some insight on the injury. We’ll see I guess.
  3. Because he would be cheap and could possibly have similar success in Buffalo again. Scheme is SO important to player performance. There are very few players good enough to transcend scheme and be a stud anywhere, most are scheme dependent in order to shine. If the Bills brought him back, they deserve the benefit of the doubt in regards to what Phillips can bring to the table again.
  4. Every team is going to have weaknesses and no FO is going to hit on all players acquisitions (draft/FA). Could our defense benefit from more playmakers? Of course, but our defense is a very good defense, just reference the defensive DVOA numbers. We certainly need more production from our de’s we picked the last two years, but they are still young with two of them going into year 2, so it’s a little premature to be concerned there. Epenesa and especially Ford, we need more from them. However, Epenesa was asked to majorly change his body and I imagine this has forced him to play differently, while also learning the pro game. I’m not ready to write him off. As far as equating money spent on Butler or Addison potentially being used on a guy like Jones, it’s not that simple. We would have to of signed someone for those roles, and those people would cost money, most likely….the Chandler Jones money. Middling D like talent isn’t very cheap. The FO in the McDermott era has done a fantastic job building this team. Of course there is always room for improvement, but look what we came from! Previous front offices during the drought era don’t even compare to this one. We are a super bowl contending team and it’s no accident, it was via calculated strategy. We aren’t privy to internal discussions and team building strategies, and signing players is much more complicated that signing based on football skills. The people side of the equation is very complex for those on the outside looking in like us. At the end of the day, we can only judge based on results. Again, they can do better and I’m sure Beane/McDermott would be the first to admit that, but they also built a super bowl contender, and that matters.
  5. What bad contracts contributed to the mild mismanagement of the cap? As far as FA signings the Star signing was probably the worst, but more so because of his c19 opt out year (we’d be able to move on with very little hit this year if not for that). The Spain resigning wasn’t great, and the Williams resigning (in hindsight, but at the time, it was the right call). Beane hasn’t really paid big bucks for FA’s and he has generally resigned our own to reasonable contracts. I really don’t understand where a comment like yours if coming from? The Bills FO is more about developing talent that is drafted, and they won’t all be star players. But, they have done a good job drafting overall and we are only going into year 6, but year 5 of Beane as GM. Personally, I feel like Beane and the Bills FO have done a fantastic job! They don’t typically overlay for FA, mostly by avoiding the big ticket names, they draft well, and are very reasonable with contracts. They even had to adjust course with the c19 impacts to the salary cap. We are one of the top teams in the league, and our cap situation isn’t bad at. At this point, our key to success is to continue drafting well, having starters on rookie contracts and, and savvy via cost benefit analysis in regards to FA signings (in other words, don’t overpay for the big names because it’s rare that they play up to their cost).
  6. Somewhere recently I saw a rumor that he wants to play out his contract/franchise tags. If he did so (while staying healthy enough), he would get huge payday. It would be interesting to see him take this approach and td FA frenzy if that did happen.
  7. So true, silence would be the most respectable approach. However, so many people these days take to social media to share so many various things/details and it becomes habitual. With that being said, while choosing to say something, he did it in about the best way he could. I’m sure many Browns fans appreciate his approach as well. Everyone is different, in the end, the most important part is being classy/respectable no matter the route one takes. I think he did so here, while drumming up attention like those who use social media seek.
  8. Just to add, he wants pressures because it forces the ball out early, and allows the defense to play back a bit and come forward and make tackles on underneath/intermediate level throws. The point being, anyone would love more sacks, but our D is geared around pressures minimum and we do that.
  9. My guess wound be some of the older vets like Haden, Sherman, Peterson. Either way, I can’t imagine the Bills not having a specific FA cb or two in mind. Also, if they were to be planning on cb early in the draft to compete for a starting spot week 1 (with Tre out), I’d imagine Beane would only do that if he saw that there were multiple guys he would take, and he is confident he will get one. Kind of like how he has described his thought process when trading down in the draft. For a 4 m a season, it will be interesting to see what’s upcoming in FA and how the plan unfolds. I’m super curious which vet or two they bring in. Who would you want?
  10. I’m sure they will bring in a vet who will compete for a starting spot with a rookie. But due to Tre’s injury, I’m sure it will be a vet who can play either cb 1 or 2 week one, with Dane/rookie at the other spot. For the price Levi took with Pittsburgh, the Bills have to something specific in mind, which probably entails a cb who can do more things, and let the defense play a little different. Also, maybe the Bills offered the same and he chose Pittsburg over us? I wonder.
  11. A sign we are looking at CB early in the draft? That price does seem reasonable They have be wanting to go a different direction at cb 2 as far as skill set. I don’t see why else they wouldn’t pay that price (if he was asking for the same from us). I’m sure cb will also be an earlier pick in the draft, first 3 rounds would be my guess.
  12. Don’t know how to copy a link from the Athletic App. below is the first part of the article about D. Williams Now that the Bills have moved on from Feliciano, the biggest question mark remaining is starting right guard Daryl Williams. The Bills could save a lot of cap space by releasing him — $6.325 million to be exact, before factoring in the contract that would replace his deal in the top 51. Williams is the most fascinating decision remaining because if they cut him, it could signal the Bills’ commitment to a different type of offensive lineman. All of their potential starters for 2022 and a key reserve they drafted last year mostly have one thing in common. They’re superior athletes to most at their position. The exception is Williams. An excellent metric to use is Relative Athletic Score, which takes the size, speed and agility profile and compares it to historical data at the position to give an accurate depiction of the type of athlete a team would be getting. It’s out of 10, and Williams sticks out like a sore thumb. After the above, he lists the RAS of some of our linemen and D. Williams is a 3.31 the lowest behind Dawkins at 7.90 the rest are all 8’s or 9’s, and one 10 (Brown).
  13. However, he survived, didn’t lose his leg or his life and just loss two toes. Its not great, but also not worth getting upset over others seeing humor in something such as this. Have you never laughed at yourself for something that went wrong? Negativity or positivity, which would you prefer, which would others prefer? Being able to find humor in things generally equates to someone who is more positive in life.
  14. It is possible to sympathize and still have fun with stuff like this. It’s not like it had to be one or the other. Too many these days want to limit communication to a narrow set of guidelines and define what is “right” in regards to topics. Live and let live. No one’s hurting Deon here making a little joke about his loss of toes. Consider how many times people make fun of themselves over things that don’t go well in life. Being able to laugh at life, is a good thing.
  15. IF, there is a guard there worth taking. We really have to see how the board falls, there are several good options at multiple positions, just depends on who it is, but we can’t be locked into a specific position. A guard in the first has to be more than a day 1 starter, they need to be someone who could potential play center down the road. There are just so many good wr’s this draft, that I’d prefer to stay away from Williams. Hopefully he is selected before us, helping to push one more player down the board.
  16. I think Wan’Dale Robinson could be a good slot pickup in the 2nd. Only thing is, it would be hard relying on a rookie to play slot, so I’d think brining back Sanders would be a good pairing. He can play both inside and outside and his experience should help him when attacking more zone based defenses.
  17. Yeah I agree with your take on the O-line, I see it the same way. Unless Morse retires, it will most likely be the same starting 5. I’m thinking more a mid to later round pick at guard who can be depth and possible starter down the road (maybe a second year starter after we move on from Williams). I wouldn’t be surprised is the Bills bring back Sanders on a 1 year deal. It looks like we are either trading or cutting Bease and Sander would make sense as a guy who can play both inside and outside. This would give the Bills more flexibility for the draft. Being more of a defensive person, what position are you hoping for in the first? Obviously it depends on FA and how the draft falls, but I’m starting to lean CB, it just feels like there will be a few good options at that position at 25.
  18. This draft is VERY deep, and Beane has been pretty successful with late round picks. There is NO WAY anyone gives up more than a 6th for him. If they do, it’s via a pick swap. Last year he didn’t do anything and D-Hop was out for a large chunk of the season, that alone is very telling. Add to it all that he hasn’t done much on special teams. We can’t just expect someone like him to come in and take other the slot role, so we’d still have to pick someone up who we atleast could count on in the slot. I just don’t understand why he had such a poor year last year when AZ needed someone to step up at WR.
  19. This is another guy who would be an amazing grab outside of the first. After he ran his 40 in the 4.4’s there is a chance he won’t even be there for our second round pick. I also love the fact that he decided to play in the National Championship risking re-injury.
  20. I doubt the Bills draft a QB to be a backup. That’s more likely to a vet. It doesn’t make sense taking a young later round QB to be our backup. We need a backup who can atleast have a chance to go .500 if Allen is out. As far as guard, I do think we draft one this draft. It will depend how things fall/FA where they take one. In regards to WR’s not contributing much year 1, although true, that narrative seems to be shifting as the league becomes more pass first, especially when we have a QB like Allen who won’t be a hinderance to production for a WR. This is a fantastic draft to pick up 2 WR’s. My guess would be the higher pick would be a slot guy, and the later pick more of an outside guy. If Sanders were to come back this year, he would be an excellent bridge being able to play both outside and inside while the young guys learn and get worked in on things they can do early. I mean, look at Davis as a 4th round rookie, he looked very good.
  21. I agree with what your saying, but in the event a rookie guard won a starting spot, I think they would play him next to Brown, but I think they look at a guard who can compete for a staring spot this year, with more of an eye towards the future. As far as WR, completely agree. I think they take two this draft. The talent at WR this draft is just amazing, including good speed all over the draft at WR. With that said, I don’t think we take WR in round 1. You never know, especially before FA, but it just seems the value and BPA may end up being another position.
  22. I picked Wan’Dale Robinson because I don’t think we go WR with our first pick, so we are looking at second round or later. Wan’Dale might be around for our second round pick. I also think we will grab two WR’s this draft, and there are many great options all over this draft. But I think they look for a slot WR with the higher pick of the two.
  23. I do think the Zeke signing was worse. They can’t even get out from him right now, and even though Coopers contract isn’t great, Zeke’s is a big reason they have to trade/cut cooper. It will be interesting to see how Beane progresses with signing our drafted players
  24. I know! I can’t remember the number, but some poster shared it a few weeks back. Beasley had somewhere around 30+ first down receptions. The guy is a chain mover and there’s value in that. It will be interesting to see what happens, but knowing Beane, he will get some value out of a trade.
