Week 18: Pats at Bills, Sunday 1/8 1pm
MasterStrategist replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm trying to remember if we saw a combination of Poyer/Johnson earlier this year? I know we had Johnson and Damar... My guess is that Cam Lewis is ahead of Marlowe. Cam brings some athleticism, albeit some questionable decision making -
100% agree. No easy decision/solution, or it would have been made already. JMO, but I tend to like the coin flip idea: 1. It doesn't change, or adjust, any other NFL teams games already played. 2. No reason to try and reschedule this game, given circumstances and late season scheduling dilemma. *If this was prior to a bye week, or even a few weeks ago, then schedules could have been adjusted by a few days each week to accommodate. 3. Fairest thing for seeding is to determine a winner/loser. Keeping everything on the basis of 17 games played per team. 4. Finally, million dollar question...how to determine the winner? nothing more fair than a coin flip. Its 50/50 odds and given how evenly these teams were supposed to matchup, this wouldn't bias any outcome. Again, that's just the simplest solution at this point. I'd be partial to doing this coin flip prior to Week 18 games (just as if the result would have been known by now), but going to guess the NFL won't want to create any unnecessary controversy, unless needed.

Week 18: Pats at Bills, Sunday 1/8 1pm

I'm not trying to assume anything or predict, but will support whatever the coaches/staff/players need to do in order to care for their well-being, and have time to focus on themselves and Damar. That said, everyone processes traumatic situations differently. Personally, talking thru emotions and thoughts with teammates/staff would help me. Then getting my mind "busy" (back to work) and refocused, as more updates come out on Damar is important so I wouldn't let negativity creep in. Again, that's just me and returning to norm as quick as possible (after having a chance to share feelings/process everything) is my coping mechanism. All things change if the unspoken occurs, just positive thoughts/prayers that encouraging updates on Damar come out in the next day or so. I also have complete trust/faith in Beane and Coach, to help guide and lead the team thru this difficult week(s). Family first, and I'm sure they will give every resource to helping the staff/players right now. -
Agree, and I mentioned up thread that speculation is not desirable. However, it is helpful to understand what to expect (timing of more info) and what next steps could be / possible causes. Living in Pittsburgh area, Allegheny Health Network (along with UPMC - Steeler team provider group) are the top hospital systems. Below are two articles, which provide key information without trying to speculate/specifically diagnose Hamlin: https://triblive.com/sports/next-24-hours-critical-to-hamlin-recovery-experts-say/ https://www.post-gazette.com/news/health/2023/01/03/damar-hamlin-cardiac-arrest-causes-heart-rhythm/stories/202301030101

Everyone posting about commotio cordis, or other theories are purely speculating. That is not what is needed right now. Just calling attention to the fact that there are a variety of possibilities (all related to irregular heartbeat): afib, cad, etc. What is needed now is continued support/prayer/positive energy, anything but speculation. Please be patient and wait for factual information to be released by Damar's family, representation, or the Bills directly. They have been providing updates throughout the day, and will continue to do so. Just unhealthy and unnecessary to speculate, especially when many of us are already deeply concerned.

Prayers to Damar, his family, and support system. I live close to where he grew up and played HS/college ball, his prior coaches have always had nothing but great things to say about him as a person (and player). So much adversity for this team (and city of Buffalo) during 2022/early 2023, that those feelings can be difficult to handle. But can also be used to uplift and bring people/community/players closer together. As others said, football doesn't matter right now. Damar and his family are in everyone's thoughts, stay positive and hopefully we receive a positive update in the next 24-48 hours.

Week 17 Gameday Thread - Around the NFL

Great coach, but he also has one of the highest paid defenses in the NFL....that side of the ball has been underachieving, albeit TJ injury is an excuse for the time he missed. Offense always had talent, except that oline. Just so many young players, needed time to gel and now they've found an identity to play close/solid football. Matt Canada likely saved his job, but has been playing with fire and think they could do better. This team reminds me of some of the Jets teams, guided by Mark Sanchez. Less talent at corner, which makes this team less dominant defensively. -
Just edited my post, I think it's Dean Marlowe.

100% not Saffold walking next to Josh in the photos. Not sure who it is, but it's not Roger. Saffold is built like a truck, not like a WR/DB. Edit: took another look at the boarding photos, and looked like Dean Marlowe walking next to Josh.

Week 17 Gameday Thread - Around the NFL

Heyward penalty was borderline, but 2 things: 1. Ref was clearly telling players play was over/break it up, then Cam pushes the bmore oline 2 additional times. 2. On the 2nd push, Cam makes contact with the Ref. Again borderline, but Cam being hot-headed in the moment. 2nd half adjustments. If I'm Bmore, I start to run more playaction/3 step drops on 1st down. Steelers running a 6-2 front basically dictates cover 3 or man coverage. Both susceptible to outside passing game (5-10 yard outs/fade patterns if man). Steelers offense is moving the ball with their 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense. Bmore should be sending more blitzes on early downs, get Pitt off schedule. -
MNF: Rams @ Packers 8:15pm ESPN

Baker played horribly against GB last time (albeit while injured/with Browns). GB is getting healthier, Rams are not. I'd be all over GB, -7.5 -
Draft Ratings after 13 ??????????
MasterStrategist replied to Danger Mouse's topic in The Stadium Wall
This yr contribution, as of right now: Elam: C+ Cook: B- Bernard: C Shakir: C Araiza: F Shakir: C Benford: B Spector: C Tenuta: n/a That said, these can quickly change depending on P/T and key plays made at critical moments in the playoffs. Guys like Elam and Cook, I'd expect the coaches have a plan to get more involved (already seeing this with Cook). Future: obviously too early. Elam: They haven't missed on many secondary selections, have to think he will blossom. Cook: looks like a potential starter/rotational guy. And more explosion/pass catching ability than we've had recently. Bernard: was an insurance policy for Milano, and someone who needs an offseason to get stronger/learn our scheme (think he will be a surprise player next yr). Shakir: is more hype than production as of now (mostly hyped by fans), but think he could be our future slot. Benford: valuable CB depth, and someone who might move to S. -
Screen designs are fairly straight forward. It's the execution, takes alot of practice to get the timing of the OL, Josh's drop (selling it), and RB in position. My guess is they aren't spending enough time practicing these, just isn't a key aspect of Dorseys playbook. Same with RB draws, sprint out draws. There were several times yesterday we should have been taking advantage of the Jets wide nine (Def ends outside alignment and pass rush straight up the field). Against Miami, I get concerned that they run a super aggressive defense and we need more screens/etc to take advantage of that.

I thought 10-3 would feel better...

didn't realize you win the SB in December? Currently the #1 seed and control our own destiny. I'll take that all day every day. Every team has flaws this time of year, and there is roughly a quarter season to go b4 playoffs....alot can happen between now and then for all teams. 1 game at a time, and see where things are at come playoffs -

Bengals and Rams, last years SB teams...were both extremely streaky. One week looks great, next looked like a different team. This team just needs to get the offensive rhythm going....same problem as LY, heading into playoffs. How quickly we forget the offense wasn't clicking on all cylinders consistently. Defense and S/T are playing consistent right now, and that's going to be huge come playoffs -

Diggs looked fine, just appeared frustrated. I thought he was in the game on the last series, 1st play at least, when we threw incomplete to Knox. -

Horrible angle on that replay... thought the ball may have hit the ground as Tre flipped him over on tackle. -

McKenzie can create separation, just frustrating he doesn't have consistent hands. Body catches alot, lucky those didn't turn into a pick -

Jets offense right now... 1. Run away from Milano/toward Taron 2. Throw toward Danes side of field Let's adjust, and step it up! -
