NFL Week 10 - Vikings at Bills post game thread
MasterStrategist replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is the love/hate relationship that you get with a new off coordinator, who is still learning how to call plays with a lead. And, the delicate balance of how aggressive Josh Allen should be. 1st half: establish an average to above average run game, spread ball around on to multiple targets, play smart/execute in redzone 2nd half: abandon run game with double digit lead, put more on Josh's shoulders, turn the ball over multiple times.... It's a frustrating brand of football when our team should be winning these games. Josh will get this figured out, just frustrating for now. -
Nothing to do with a single hit/play. It all has to do with coaching, Dorseys/Josh's aggressive styles. When they're on their A-game, few will be beat them. Problem is, being overly aggressive comes with risks. It's a very fine line. Someone needs to take that 4th quarter game tying drive, and put it on replay for Josh's. Showing him its OK to checkdown the ball.

NFL Week #10 - Vikings at Bills - 1st half game thread

Omg shut up man bc you are being an a**. He just ran the seam with their #2 WR (Thielen). How about those "instincts", everyone likes to roast him for, on that1st PBU against TJ? Unreal criticism, not many LBs are making an INT on either of those, let alone breaking them up -
11/13/22 GAMEDAY Vikings at Bills Pregame Thread Week 10

Possibly. But also for S/T. We usually have Benford on teams, guessing Rhodes isn't playing s/t, so it might just be getting #s there. Along with how they envision using Hines, possibly they consider him more Swiss army knife (split out/slot/rb) -

Lot of speculation that Cook is inactive, can't see that happening. Just wondering if they are using Duke as "insurance", in case something unlikely happens pregame (ie: injury). Or perhaps someone came down sick today, that we don't know about. For Rhodes, Elam is very very likely out. I'm wondering if both Rhodes and Tre dress. Both these guys haven't played in a full NFL game in quite a while. They have 1 extra game day roster spot, by dressing just 8 DL. -

Interesting about Duke Johnson.... Bummer about Rhodes, seemed like Tre return game. But another revenge opp for Rhodes. -
One thing being overlooked is we only have 2 P/S callup per week: 1. DL: I definitely expect us to elevate a DL for tomorrow, either Zimmer/Ankou/Love. I'm fairly certain we have dressed 9 DL for each game this season. 2. CB: this will be another tell on Tre's status tomorrow. Elam is very unlikely to play, so it's either Tre or a P/S callup (Rhodes/Ingram). I'm hopeful Tre is ready, which would give flexibility to elevate Barkley as insurance (like you said). But we might not have that luxury, and haven't seen anyone bring up that point. Meaning, if we elevate Barkley and a CB...it was likely due to "need", and point even more toward Allen sitting it out. If its a DL/Barkley, then I see it as a possibility for Allen to play still.

Past weeks these were announced closer to 3pm. -
Agree they aren't wasting a P/S elevation, can't recall Coach doing that ever. Only if Josh is truly a GTD. I think alot of the "finalizing" of gameplanning/offensive play scripting is done on Saturdays. IMO, they know if Josh is playing or not,if Barkley is called up then Josh is sitting...Coach isn't trying to play mindgames, like some are alluding to.
-
It would be interesting to know how much this influences team gameplanning/etc, this late in the week. I'd figure Minny already has their scouting/adjustments prepared, in case Allen plays. At this point, not sure the uncertainty changes anything for them. Not sure Coach is thr type to go thru theatrics. His comments aren't always specific, but if Josh is practicing limited likely points to 50/50...see if Barkley called up tomorrow. FP=100% playing IMO

Coach put Tremaine, Elam, and Tre in the same boat as Josh. Tre of course practice. but unsure on game status. Tremaine and Elam, will see leading up if they can practice today. -
Roster build isn't designed around a backup QB, it was built for Josh/offensive skillset that meshes into the coaches' philosophy. That said, you can evaluate the following fairly IMO: 1. Keenum: if Josh is out, Keenum is still an established veteran QB and should be able to move the ball with the offensive talent. I think if Keenum plays "Peterman" level, then go ahead and put some shade toward Beane for misjudging the backup QB spot. 2. Dorsey: directly correlated to above, I have faith Dorsey will put Keenum in situations to succeed with his playcalling. Dorsey was a very similar QB to Case, get the ball to his playmakers and let them do their job. I'd expect to see more quick passes, occasional 50/50 deep ball (fade patterns). Keenum is good at reading defenses, and just needs to avoid turnovers/keep us in 3rd and manageable.

That's looking much better. Hopefully Tremaine gets in a practice tomorrow, which would be similar to last week (when he sat out then practiced and played). Hopefully Tre is ready to return, we need to dress 1 less CB when that happens anyhow...so could be good to let Elam heal. I'd still consider Josh 50/50, no practice tomorrow and "likely" he's out. Need a strong defensive effort this week either way. -
Appreciate the info, and hopefully your surgery went well. But this is the exact reason why the internet docs (ie: Chao, Banged up Bills, etc) information has to be taken as "good to know", but not gospel. Nobody knows the exact nature of Josh's injury, except for those docs/trainers closely involved. Trying to apply, well this happened with guy X in the past, so we should do Y and sit him for Z games/days. It's good to be educated on the health parameters/factors possibly being considered, but after that it's pure speciation even by the best doctor in the world (unless they evaluated Josh/imaging done).

Wording is important, and Rapsheet never said "slight tear". He started by saying sprain, then slid in "tiny tear". To me that's different as he was not reporting a tear, but a sprain. See the post above from Ian this am. No mention of tear, just sprain. Which as you said, and I agree with, there are variations...could be a tear, could just be "stretched" ligaments. Bottom line, let's not get all "doomsday" that Josh Allen will be compromise for remainder of season, like you said. Maybe he sits out this week, maybe he guts it out. It sounds more like a pain tolerance thing to me right now, as the Bills wouldn't be putting Allen out there with any risk of "tearing"/or making injury worse. So to me it will be a positive if he's trying to play thru it, like reported, and likely pain tolerance.
