  1. I'll add another possible reason for downplaying the deep ball and that's the defenses teams run now. Most run some version of the Cover 2 shell which is designed to take away long completions. Now that doesn't mean you don't need some speed burners at WR. As many have pointed out in this thread the ability to threaten deep routes with speed opens up the underneath routes.
  2. This. Most of the post-Rd 3 picks for good teams (who draft at the end of rounds) look like depth role or PS players. Some will be; others will seize their opportunity and become good starters. So let's wait and see.
  3. His bench press was very low for a man his size. Luckily in McD's defensive system, he won't be called on to bench press O lineman very often. Seriously, though, the poor showing on the bench press may indicate a slack work ethic.
  4. Wow; that's not good for a DT
  5. Any excuse to get fams to shell out $$ for more NFL gear. Remember not to take it out of the box. If you do it's not collectible any more. On a side note: who will manufacture all this gear?
  6. We are old that was a quarter-century ago.
  7. 1999 Draft. Saints have the no. 12 pick. Their coach trades ALL of the Saints '99 picks and two of their first three picks in the 2000 draft for Texas running back Ricky Williams. Ditka is fired after the Saints struggle. Ricky plays three years for the Saints and then is traded. Read about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ricky_Williams_trade
  8. And still they gazed, and still the wonder grew, That one small head could carry all he knew.
  9. This is why we can't have nice things.
  10. Elam's tenure as a Buffalo Bill
  11. I'll bet Ed Oliver likes this deal. It will make ED better. A true 1 T will allow Ed to be a pure 3T
  12. Pats probably agreed to pay him enough so he could afford shoes.
  13. I hope they still have enough money to pay Mack Hollins. He can't even afford to buy shoes.
  14. I fully agree with you. But unfortunately, a moral victory is just another name for a loss.
  15. You are right. It was helmet to helmet.
  16. I hope Coleman doesn't become a head case like Sammy Watkins. I remember Sammy saying his first year that guys in the pros hit pretty hard and thinking even if its true you don't admit it. Poyer's hit on Coleman was wicked (but clean). It sounds like Coleman may still be mentally bothered by that hit.
  17. Here is Warner's breakdown at about 15 minute mark:
  18. Soem more classic trifectas: Baltimore Colts: Unitas, Berry, Mackey Browns: Graham, Motley, Lavelli
  19. A bit uncertain what you mean here. I agree that Kosar & Bledsoe had more raw talent than Brady but it takes more than raw talent to succeed in the NFL as a QB. It requires a rare combination of talent, vision, spatial recognition, quick information processing and the drive to study for hours the cutups supplied to the QB. I cannot say for sure that Belichick made Brady better but given that most agree that Belichick is an excellent coach and that Brady was not an outstanding collegiate QB, it seems likely that Belichick's coaching made Brady a better QB. Not many QBs become better in the pros than they were in college (Brady & Josh Allen and maybe one or two others excepted.)
  20. My point, which I could have made clearer, is that Brady might have become better for having had a coach like Belichick. The Belichick-enhanced Brady then goes to Tampa Bay and wins another SB; meanwhile, Belichick cannot instaneously produce another Brady. It may be that QBs matter more than coaches but it may also be that a good coach can make a QB more successful. That's all I'm saying. It is notoriously difficult to predict which college QBs will be successful in the pros. Look at how many 1st round QBs turn out to be busts.
  21. Does Tom Brady become who he is without Belichick? One could say the relationship was synergistic and both became better for it.
  22. This is a tough question to answer. So many players are worthy of consideration.
  23. Back in the 70s Buffalo was a tough market for professional basketball. College basketball was so much more popular. The original owner of the Braves sold the team because it wasn't going to make him any money, long-term.
