In this Youtube video the doc anayyzing Tyreek's injury explains why he thinks the turf at Met-Life stadium contributes to serious player injuries (think OBJ's injury). He explains at 6:45 of the video. Why mention this here? Because the Bills play at least once a year in that stadium. The new Bills stadium will have natural grass which is more forgiving.

THE ROCKPILE REVIEW – At the One-Quarter Mark
Old Coot replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall
Nothing much to quibble with here. A spot on analysis, Shaw. I do have a comment. I have an amorphous dread (it comes with being a Bills fan -- hope for the best; expect the worst) of the Bills "playing down" to their opponents. It's mostly on D but also the offense. The O is scoring 30 points a game but the points come in spurts; it's not a consistently productive O. Hopefully both O & D will improve as the new bodies gain experience. -
As usual, Orson Welles does an incredible narration. He mentions that namath was born in Beaver Falls in Western PA. in earlier times Western PA was known as the the birthplace of great QBs. In addition to Namath and our own Jim Kelly, here is a list of the great QBs born in Western PA: Johnny Lujack, Connellsville (won the Heisman Trophy and played for the Bears in the late '40s and early '50s) Johnny Unitas, Pittsburgh George Blanda, Youngwood (only man to play professional football in 4 decades) Babe Parilli, Rochester Joe Namath, Beaver Falls Joe Montana, Monongahela Jim Kelly, East Brady Dan Marino, Pittsburgh Most of those steel towns have faded into obscurity and with them, their ability to produce QBs.

Why don't they go the whole 9 yards and just have a rule applicable only to the Eagles saying that they only need to gain 9 yards for a first down.

Still 13 to a side? and can receivers still get a running start up to the line? Years ago I read an article that the MLB teams in Canada were at a disadvantage because their player expenses to be competitive with American MLB teams had to match dollars US but in Canadian while their income from attendance was in dollars CA. That migh be different today especially with all trams sharing equally in TV dollars. Your thoughts, eh?

Another reason it's not West Coast: that system had many timing patterns. The QB takes his 3, 5 or 7 step drop and routes are timed to the drop so when the QB hits his last step -- Boom-- the ball comes out to the timed route that's open.

The Eagles when Jason was at center had the heaviest Oline in the NFL at 338 lbs average. I don't think that any NFL team has 5 DTs that come close to that average. DTs usually are lighter than O lineman. Some 1 T DTs may match that average since their job is to take on double teams but no team has 5 of 'em.

Which is the first game we will lose this season?

Re Eagles: do you mean the regular season game or when we play them again in the Super Bowl? -

Probably brain cramping. That was quite a lick that Ed laid on Lamar. -

If Josh was out of the box, then it's legal for the D to trash the receivers. I can't tell if that's so. Maybe someone who views the all 22 can clear this up. -
He's a 3T and the role of a 3T is to be quick and disruptive -- get in the backfield and disrupt the play. The job of the 1T next to him is to take on double teams and generally keep the O line interior from getting 2d level blocks on the LBs. Our 1T didn't do that but then the Ravens have an excellent O line. On Henry's long runs he wasn't touched as he ran through the D line and 2d level.

The Ugly The Bad The Good... The Bills Defense v Ravens Thoughts
Old Coot replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall
Ravens were able to block out D line AND get to the 2d level and block our LBs on Henry's long runs. We'll see a steady diet of run plays this season until we prove we can do better against the run. -
Allen making these changes pre snap are absolutely amazing
Old Coot replied to Pokebball's topic in The Stadium Wall
What I'm about to say is not intended to diminish Josh's participation on this play. It is exceptional. The first motion is often designed into the play to ID the coverage: man or zone (though some newer defensive wrinkles will move a DB with the motion and then play zone). That said, Cook's motion is all Josh. -
Not to quibble but the rule quoted above just says when the ball is dead not where the ball is spotted... Or are the two the same? The commentators seems to think it was where the ball was when Josh started his slide.

What’s your favorite Bills opening day game?
Old Coot replied to Another Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Sept 11, 1960: Bills vs NY Titans at the Polo Grounds in NYC. Bills took the field in their Royal Blue and Silver colors. Bills got on the board first with a FG and then proceeded to lose 27-3. But they were OUR Bills!! Go Buffalo! The next week they opened at home in the Rockpile and lost to the Denver Broncos in their Milk Dud colored uniforms 27-21. Finished the season 5-8-1 and did not qualify for the playoffs. But they were OUR Bills. Go Buffalo!! -
And quarterbacks were scared. Riviled only by the Dolphins "No Name" defense, which was, of course, its name.

Can't really tell how good Arch is from this game. He never really got into rhythm. That's on him but the Buckeyes D had a lot to do with that. I think they got into his head. Once you start double-checking what you see instead of just trusting your mechanics get off. Very few of his passes were on target today. I saw a couple of big time throws but other than that, meh. We'll see if he toughens up over the season. I expect we'll see these teams go head-to-head come playoff time.

Are these the uniforms we wear in foggy or blizzard conditions on the field?
