  1. One of the main points of this thread is when have we ever stared down worse odds coming into a game than this week? So it's more of identifying a correlation to games in our history than it is trying to predict an actual outcome. I for one am curious where this would rank in our history. If we can't talk about what interests us for every aspect of these games before and after, then what is the point of having a discussion board? I remember staying up late watching that one unbelievably slip away and feeling like it was worse than if the game had been a blowout--Bills had to dig deep into their bag of despair to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory that night
  2. Local sports radio down here in the Atl are usually pretty tame towards the Falcons, esp. compared to media in the northern markets, but that week they unloaded to my delight, as no one expected that egg from the defending NFC champs.
  3. I still regret taking sustained success/playoffs for granted, where every Sunday I just expected the Bills to come out and dominate, and it would be more of a surprise if they lost—the 17 years before last taught me appreciation if nothing else though. We deserve to hit the lotto with Allen, I’d say we’re due
  4. What about the home opener in 2003--beat Brady with the ugly stick 31-0, then of course in very Bills fashion, lost to them by the same score in Foxboro at the end of the same year. Not sure what the Vegas line was for that first game though.
  5. Really am having trouble remembering a regular season game since the Bills have been consistently mediocre post-1999, where the outcome was already so decided in everyone's minds, both nationally and amongst fellow Bills fans, than what is expected to be in store for us this Sunday facing a top-5 Minnie Defense and solid O. Does anyone have any votes for games during that stretch where the Bills pulled out an even more unlikely "W" and surprised the world?
  6. I know, I know. Sad to have to follow the herd mentality on this one, because it seems to be such a foregone conclusion--still gotta play the game though, and miracles do happen. I've got my fingers crossed
  7. Great point--why have Culley on the payroll at all if he can't fulfill this type of job description adequately? While I in principle would have liked a cagey old vet on the roster to help Allen out like Darnold has in Jersey, at the end of the day the burden is on this coaching staff (Daboll, Culley in particular) to bring this kid's development along at a reasonable pace
  8. What if the Bills shock the world? How many heads will explode nationally and in these boards? The survivor pools will be all but over. I ask because I wonder if this will be the ultimate trap game for the Vikes
  9. Ok, that was legit funny. Howevahhhhhhh...one of these guys wears a HOF gold jacket, and the other wears whatever this is: https://ftw.usatoday.com/2015/09/the-bills-quarterback-got-the-nickname-tyrod-tailored-thanks-to-his-postgame-outfit
  10. Brady: What, WHAT did you just say homey? Come at me bro! Hogan: Did I stutter? I said, testing for HGH is going to be fun around here
  11. My thinking too--if focus is on Mayfield future, have to give the interim to Haley, plus has Gregg Williams ever removed the bountygate stank from himself fully?
  12. Ugghh, the only thing worse than habitually losing to the Pats would be losing to the J-E-T-S, Jets Jets Jets...I don't think I can take anymore lopsided division beatings over the course of the next decade, and no franchise deserves it less then the Jets (except for Miami, lol).
  13. One can only hope, and at some point, it will be, Alex Guerrero voodoo notwithstanding
  14. Probably is a Pats fan worried what Allen will do to the power dynamics in the division with an aging Brady if Allen turns into something special
  15. Flutie had his moments here too--was also better than Fitzmagic over the long haul
  16. This is just plain ignorant and lazy "reporting"/analysis at its most swampy. How can you say that a roster of grown men who've made an NFL team, lacking as it may be against their peers, would come up short against "kids" most of whom can't legally drink? Put another way, how many Alabama NFL rookies each year end up still washing out, or are on the same learning curve as any other rookie playing in the NFL for the first time? I've never heard that Alabama players somehow magically plug 'n play anymore than any other rookie class on average. An overall dumb and subjective supposition since the theory can never be tested anyway in real life.
  17. Is any of this a real surprise? At some point during any run of sustained success, each of the main contributors probably overstates what they're bringing to the table, while minimizing the role of the others, causing tension and eventually demolition of the foundation...see also Jimmy Johnson/Jerry Jones, Peyton/Colts, etc. Hopefully the timing of this coming out on the heels of their loss last week, paired with the notorious control freak that Belichick is in trying to keep everything in-house, will create some awkward and distracting tension in the Patriots cafeteria. As a long-suffering Bills fan who's seen way too much grief at the hands of these guys collectively, I have to say though that any shade going their way puts an extra spring in my step...
  18. Agreed—but their margin for error was narrowed a lot by Wilson K. You have no chance if your draft classes after don’t hit and no $ to plug holes in FA. I wonder if we will ever see QB money correction in our lifetimes? Rookie signings used to be going the same way before the new CBA. Maybe a new thread topic in there somewhere
  19. How quickly we forget the implosion after he signed his $$$ deal here, and was run out on a rail I’m sure with most here in agreement that his time in Buffalo needed to end, mutually. But was he an improvement over Capt Checkdown Edwards? Undoubtedly. How long this lasts in Tampa? Maybe 2-3 more weeks? I wish him well, but am glad to have Allen right now
  20. All I’m saying is look at the Seahawks since Wilson got paid—basically downhill ever since, but they were unstoppable when they had all the cap room in the world to work with before that. Of course, Cleveland has had all the cap room in the world for all of recent history and that hasn’t gotten them a W yet either, so maybe bad analogy, IDK. Just hoping we hit some gold with our cash in 2019.
  21. I try not to Sully (whoops, no pun intended) my overall memory of Marv by focusing too much on Marv’s GM tenure—still would’ve been happier if Wilson had granted Marv’s real wish of getting back on the sideline Instead of the FO, but in retrospect somehow i doubt the 2nd coaching go-around would’ve been as fun as the 1st...
  22. Getting performance out of very opportunistic rookie K’s is critical under the cap for a rebuilding franchise like us—with the salary cap constraints being what they are and Beane probably having to overpay the 2019 FA’s, maybe the Seahawks model when they started their run with Wilson on his rookie deal leaving space for paying a monster D and key offensive playmakers around him is the way to emulate?
  23. Maybe the 2018 draft class will have morphed into what the ‘83 class represented for so long, where a league without the likes of Marino, Elway, Kelly (and let’s not forget drafted with that same class, Todd Blackledge ?) was hard to imagine—but the torch passes invariably from generation to generation—I just hope Allen is not the Blackledge of this group. Early returns are promising though!
