Hey Doc, I'm not sure how deep the field is for big backs this year. I'm not a draftnik kind of guy. I imagine there will be some to chose from late in the draft. It seems that RB is the one position where it's easy to find a stud in the later rounds. Beane may want to keep his limited free agency resources for other positions. We'll see. 🍻

I think the best bet is to draft one. Find some 230lb back on day three of the draft from a smaller FBS program who has shown an ability to pass protect and not fumble and bring him in on a cheap contract. Supposedly there's not much of a learning curve for RBs going from college to the pros. He'll likely be the change of pace back, short yardage back and should be able to contribute right away. On the cheap.

That's a spicy meatball, though it's still not a sign in and of itself they expect to be without Jackson for 2023. They could just be looking for a more reliable backup after Tyler Huntley took a major step back in 2022. I agree. The Jets bringing in Rodgers is essentially a rental that is going to cost them gobs of money and draft capital. It is the ultimate win now move by a GM and coach desperate to save their jobs.

Rodgers is an attention seeking diva. I'm not sure what would be worse for the Jets; Rodgers actually going there with his toxicity (can't wait to see the NY media crawl up his a** after his first bad game) OR Rodgers going back to GB and screwing the Jets by effectively keeping them out of free agency waiting for him to make up his mind.

Henry needs 20+ rushes a game to get in gear. I don't think we want to make that big of a commitment to the running game with JA17 on the field. I'm a big Derrick Henry fan but I don't think he's a good fit for our offense.

I think the position cost would have been too high to grab a decent CB in free agency with what he has already committed to Tre' White. Teams can't afford to have two top tier CB contracts on the books anymore, just like you can't afford to have two top tier WR contracts on the books at the same time. You need to have one of your CBs on a cheap rookie contract.

Unless they were going to go after Lamar they didn't have much choice. I would hate to be in the Phin's GM's shoes right now. How do you write a contract for this guy with a $100+mm in guarantees with his injury history? Picking up the 5th year option is an easy call, the next contract is the issue.

Beane never goes into the Draft with a glaring hole in the roster. He will work free agency like he does every year to fill the holes in the roster and walk into the Draft able to go in any direction. That's his MO.

Good day to be a Bears' fan. They weren't taking a QB at 1 and just stocked the draft cupboards full of valuable picks, still get an immediate impact 1st round selection at 9 this year, and DJ Moore. Da Bears!

I think this is the year we see what Cook can really do. I think he can be special. Why spend a 1st that relegates Cook to the bench? I hope Robinson is gone before Beane selects to remove the temptation.

I drafted him on my fantasy team the last two years so I watched a lot of his play. He just isn't playing good ball, not getting separation, and couldn't get target share on two different teams. I think he might have hit the wall. In the words of Randy Jackson, "That's a no from me dog..."

Benford / midrange FA / day 3 draft pick --- camp competition to replace Poyer. Bernard / Spector / midrange FA / day 3 draft pick --- camp competition to replace Edmunds. Take the money saved to put a legit O-Line in front of Josh. I think Josh is good enough to elevate any WR on the field with him. Give Josh a clean pocket for 3 seconds and he will shred any secondary no matter the WRs. Priority #1 for Beane has to be to protect Josh and retool that O-Line.

I agree, if they’re going to win a Super Bowl it will be on Josh Allen’s arm, not McDermott’s defense. I think McBeane hoped Josh would be enough to get the job done on offense but he can’t do it alone. They need to change their philosophy and go offense heavy and build an offense around Josh that will score 35 points a week and dare teams to keep up. Elite offense, elite kicking game, above average special teams, and an average defense needs to be the script going forward. They’ve got a lot of that in place already.
