Bills sign Matakevich to 1 yr extension
ngbills replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Better be a $ saver -
Another one gone. Hopefully we are in the running for Dupree, Lawson, Reddick

Why is it always so extreme? Cutting Addison for example is not blowing it up. Not signing Milano but signing Judon would not be blowing it up. Not signing Williams and Felciano but signing Thuney would not be blowing up. Blowing it up would be trading Allen or Diggs. Funny though if Milano was not signed it would be Beane is too smart to overpay for that guy. It is not his style, he will find a diamond in the rough to replace him. Plug in Feliciano or Williams and it would be the same story.

What gets lost in a 13-3 record is how close 13-3 is to 10-6 or even 7-9. The NFL playing field is so level. The Bills took the step from the mid goods to the really good group. But it is easy to take a step back to mids again. The Bills were able to win despite some serious weaknesses last year on defense and an occasional inconsistent offense. Look at the playoffs games and we did make it to the ACFCG but it was not pretty in the playoffs. We could of very easily lost to both IND and BAL. As a GM you cant just look at the record of 13-3 and championship game appearance and be content.

Only applies to Bills and we dont even have a QB making big $.

Free Agency Wish List After Pre FA re-signings
ngbills replied to IgotBILLStopay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It goes both ways. I think Beane has done better with the low risk signings as do most GM's because there is less of a spotlight. But look at last year and I am sure there was similar talk. What did Beane do? He signed Jefferson, Addison and Butler all to decent deals. All three of them were target to be cut this year. Where did he hit? The Diggs trade was the main game changer. Then the low risk move on Williams and bringing back Feliciano. But if you look over time the FA signings with the most $ have not panned out - Star, Jefferson, Murphy, Kroft, Addison, Butler, Norman. -

You can assume everyone that played better than expected last year will do the same this year. And everyone that played worse than expected does not matter. We let go of Brown, Murphy, Jefferson - these were three of our highest paid players last year. We shifted that money to Milano, Williams and Feliciano who were three of the guys on three bottom of the pay scale. We also let go of Norman, Kroft, Nsekhe three midlevel pay guys to. I am not saying we are worse losing these guys, but if we cant find adequate replacement for them than we are worse.
-
People under estimate this. Our DE's were already light last year and now we are down two more. Easy to say, who cares they sucked. But we are now down two guys and both Beane gave significant contracts not that long ago. We drafted a guy in the 2nd that did not get on the field much. This will need to be addressed as there is no way you can enter the season with Hughes, Epenesa, Addison, Johnson, Cox Jr, Love...

Thus far we are last year minus: Offense: Brown, Kroft; and possibly Nsekhe, Winters, Roberts, McK, Yeldon, Barkley Defense: Norman, Jefferson, Murphy, Marlowe Special Teams: Still unknown on Bojo and Roberts Add's: Star While I am happy to bring back Milano, Williams and Feliciano it could turn out not to be the best decision. This is the tough part of being a GM. Could you have more easily replaced some of those guys and then added better pieces at other positions? It is hard to predict this stuff. There does seem to be a number of guys that could have helped the pass rush available. Would losing Feliciano or Williams have been worth affording Dupree or Barrett? Could we have double-down on WR and grabbed a Galloway instead? Let Milano walk and instead bring in another CB like Peterson? So many scenarios and these are all the tough calls. Obviously last years team was a top team in the AFC. But we are still chasing the Chiefs while also trying to hold off teams like BAL, CLE, IND, MIA, TEN. Beane seemed content rolling the dice on the squad we have and hopefully can add a few pieces in free agency and then have a solid draft.

So we still are paying over $15m to Addison and Butler. Don’t like it all. Would rather have $13-15m guy and a couple minimum contact guys. No thinking allowed. Only clapping.

Restrux left - White, Poyer, Dawkins, Diggs?

Yannick, Dupree, Reddick, Barrett (doubt will be available), Hendrickson, Lawson, Judon, Clowney...Any of them would be our best pass rusher.

Breaking: Daryl Williams signs 3 year extension
ngbills replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Most of what I read predicted something like 4 years and 35M. Sportrac had a value of $7.8M per. So looks like the Bills basically paid market. Dont see anything that was predicting $10M+. Haha. She has said the Browns are after basically ever free agent. They wanted Watt and then supposedly didnt that much. Then David, then Milano, and also want Durpee, Hendrickson, Lawson, Reddick, Barrett and anyone else you can think of. -

Everything I have read on Williams was that he could get $7-8M per. Milano's value was impacted by David at only $12.5M. I dont see any discount on either guy. Maybe someone would have paid them, but dont see them getting more than what we paid. -

We are paying these guys market value or above. Glad to have them back but we are not doing it on the cheap. If these guys signed elsewhere on these contracts I bet most would be saying "Beane would not pay that kind of money". So I have mixed feelings on the signings. Now we need good value at other positions bc our value RT just got paid. Happy they are back but was hoping for upgrades on the edge and at TE. -
Tom Brady signs 4 Year Extension (playing to 47)
ngbills replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So how do these deals work? So you can do a 4 year deal worth $50M voidable after 2 years, bonus is $40M, salary is $2.5M per. So your cap hit is only $12.5M per which you take over two years. Then in year 3 deal is voided and you take a $25M hit? Seems like a no brainer. You get your elite QB on the books for half price and then he retires and you have a rookie or other cheap QB in year with the dead cap. -
NFL Awards Compensatory Picks - Pats Get Highest One
ngbills replied to WotAGuy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought the equation was based on guys you lost (I get not including someone you released) offset by guys you sign (this should include a guy released by another team)? Regardless, I think the whole comp thing is dumb. I wish they would just get rid of it. -
Yes, I could do that if I took the time. My point, this year is a good year as any to find a cheaper replacement than a guy getting paid $7M that is a non-factor.

How is Cam Newton not a factor in the comp picks?
