Guy showed some big time skills at Auburn and was a 5 star recruit guy. Got kicked out fo Auburn beating up some guys or something. But this I like. Interesting add to the 90 man roster. actually I love this

Look at the Chargers....it's a scrap heap. Okung and Pouncey former high draft picks by other teams. Pouncey a cap casualty, and #15 overall. Okung was a top ten pick signed as a free agent but an all pro left tackle. Feeney a third rounder. Sam Tevi a 6th rounder. Schofield a former third rounder claimed off waivers. Again, you just have to find the pieces that fit.

The big thing though is that Quenton Nelson is an elite can't miss prospect. The guys going to be in the hall of fame if he stays healthy. What they did do is draft guys at non premium positions when the value was there. Ryan Kelly, #18 overall. Costanzo #22 overall. Glowinski was a former 4th rounder. They cut Austin Blythe, a former seventh rounder who is a really good starter for the Rams. There is value for offensive line picks mid to late first round. Also, as with Blythe and Glowinski, it's just about finding the right guys. Using a top ten pick on guy guards, centers, right tackles, only makes sense if they are Nelson level players. And I can assure you there are no players like that in the 2019 draft. Thats the difference. You can't reach on a non premium positions in the top ten unless they are elite can't miss prospects.

Another guy not playing is Alex Lewis of Baltimore. He's being replaced by James Hurst who is among some pretty good guaranteed money and Orlando Brown is at right tackle. They also have Bozeman. Lewis has been hurt quite a bit, but good when he is in there. He's got one year left on his rookie deal, I'd call the Ravens and see is he is available, as he doesn't really have a spot anymore. Could play either guard and could probably play center as well. Worth a late round pick for sure.

Maxx Williams is a nice fit as a tight end as he can play fullback as well. 86 Nick Boyle is actually very similar and also set to be a UFA. They both block well and are underrated recievers. Grabbing one of them and say Jesse James instantly fixes the tight end position. My real offseason target is Forrest Lamp of the Chargers. He's healthy but inactive. I think they will be willing to move him for very little. The guy has big time potential as a guard, got hurt, and is now blocked. Perfect buy low in my opinion.

Agreed. I think Tomlin is one of the most overrated coaches. He's more of a cheerleader than anything. I'd like to see what he does when Big Ben retires.

You still need a three technique. There are basically two who are going to be on the market, Sheldon Richardson and Grady Jarrett. Grady doesn't make it to free agency. I still think our top ten pick is a defensive tackle. That's where the talent and value is.

Williams started 16 games in 2017 which was his first full year as the starter, and he was second team all pro. He hurt his knee and missed the whole season this year. Then you draft guys in the fifth round and such to add guys to the room. You do not use your top ten pick on a right tackle. You still Conor McDermott under contract as well.

Yes it's Romeo Crennel's defense. Obviously Clowney plays a lot of hand in the dirt defensive end in sub packages and such, it yeah he moves around a lot becuase he technically doesn't play a side. In reality he's an elite player who can really play anywhere. I think Clowney would explode if they let him just play defensive end in a 4-3. Then he could really play fast and not have to think. He would be unleashed imo.

Clowney can do whatever, but he plays OLB in their 3-4 scheme. Yep. Demarcus Lawrence won't make it to free agency either. There's no way. If people want a young defensive end with some skill, who actually has a chance to hit free agency it's Trey Flowers of the Patriots. The are likely to use the franchise tag on Stephen Gostkowski, and they really don't ever use it on position players.

Ok while I was commenting in the receiver coach post I was talking about Raheem Morris and brought up Kyle Flood. As I'm thinking about it, Kyle Flood would be a good fit as an offensive line coach. He was the head coach at Rutgers for a bit and work on those Greg Schiano teams. He has no Daboll connection, but he coached Bill Belicheck's son at Rutgers. He's currently the assistant offensive line coach in Atlanta, and McDermott and Dan Quinn are pretty tight, so if Quinn and Belicheck would recommend Flood, it would be hard to turn down. Kyle Flood is a good coach who struggled recruiting and got a bad rap because his kids on his teams got in lots of trouble.

Agreed. A 17 year career, played with Kurt Warner and Peyton Manning and won chamipnships. He got by doing his job and working hard and such. I think he is a great match.

I am vehemently against drafting guards and right tackles in the top ten and people on the board keep using Nelson as a reason why you should, but they are ignoring the fact that Nelson is an amazing elite can't miss prospect. So apologies if it felt like I was being snarky towards you.

I agree that it's going to be a defensive lineman. Have you looked at right tackles on rosters around the NFL? It's not pretty. And of all 32 teams there are 2 right tackles who where top ten picks, Johnson and Conklin. And Johnson is really a left tackle playing right. Neither are all pros this year. And there a whole mess of linemen who where reached on and suck. Luke Joeckel, Jonathan Cooper, Warmack etc etc etc. it's just bad drafting. Quentin Nelson elite player. Lane Johnson elite athlete in a crap draft. You simply can't draft these guys if they aren't elite. There's no draft value and you will be passing on elite talents at more important positions. Left tackles are simply more important becuase they protect the blindside. It's a simple concept, but that's really it.

I thînk the fact that he was even drafted was a favor from McBeane to Ricky Proehl, kind like how Elway drafted Chad Kelly. I guess the good news is that they only crossed over one year in Carolina with McBEANE.

Raheem Morris and Dan Quinn are really tight. They go back to their days when Morris was playing at Hofstra and Dan Quinn was coaching there. Morris spend some time a sa graduate assistant there too. My buddy played at Hofstra during that time and he's tight with Quinn, Morris and Kyle Flood. They are all Hofstra guys.

I've sat in on clinics with Noel Mazzone a number of times. He is a huge zone blocking guy and an RPO guy. Not sure that fits with Daboll, but I just wanted to lend what little knowledge I had on the subject. You can find a lot of his presentations online as he teaches an N-Zone concept. If you want to learn more about football and RPOs check them out. He's worked with Daboll on Mangini's staff so who knows. I like Ricky Proehl, and I wonder if McDermott can lure him back. Return the favor for drafting his son?

Ok some offensive line stuff I have learned over the years, coaching for 12 years in high school and going to many clinics. For some, right guard is considered more difficult to play because offensive lines usually slide their protection to the left. Meaning the center, guard and left tackle work in tandem to pick up blitzes. It makes sense to slide your protection to the side of the team's best pass rushers, which is usually the right end or rolb to attack the blind side of the quarterback. The running back usually goes opposite the slide, or tight end usually lines up on the other side, giving the right tackle some help. That often leaves the right guard in a one on one situation. Marshall Yanda/Zach Martin are the prototypes. With all of the crazy exotic blitzes these days, not all of this is important, but it is in line with the simple concept that teams need to protect the blind side of the quarterback. Also, because teams mostly use their tight ends on the right, (obviously this changes but many teams are very right handed) your defensive three technique winds up on that side a lot, giving him a one on one. It's how guys like Geno Atkins are so dominate.

I think Conklin is a bit overrated and I think the trade up did not make sense. However, it really was not a very good draft. I probably would have waited and took he or Decker..whoever was left. Conklin is a very good player, but I think rushers with some speed like Jerry Hughes would give him a lot of problems if he were playing left tackle. He'd probably be okay because of his excessively long arms. (I feel like we debated Conklin a little while back Gunner.) I do think Conklin can work his way up to the Lane Johnson category.

On the center idea, they highest drafted center over the last 20 years or so was Mike Pouncey at #15. It just is not done. The highest paid center in the league is Ryan Jensen, who was a tackle drafted in the sixth round who converted to center. Free agents we all want Paradis - 6th round Morse - 2nd round Easton - UDFA Darryl Williams - 4th round According to PFF, who I don't love but a lot of people do...Jason Kelce is their highest rated center. Drafted in the 6th round. Their highest rated RT is Mitchell Schwartz, who was drafted in round 2. Take a look at their top 25 offensive lineman of 2018. https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-top-25-offensive-linemen-of-the-2018-nfl-season Just 4 of them are top ten picks, Lane Johnson being the only RT on the list drafted in the top ten. The value just isn't there. If a guy is deemed a right tackle it means that there is some flaw in his game that keeps him from being a left tackle. That means he's going to be a flawed player right off the bat.

They need to be elite to be picked in the top ten imo. Trade down? Sure. Otherwise it's a wasted pick with little upside. If they aren't in the Quentin Nelson, class you don't do it. I believe you should't do it for left tackles either...unless they are elite. They elite talent in the class are defensive tackles, Allen and Bosa, Devin White. The exception to this is when the Titans took Jack Conklin. It was a sort of weak draft after the top five so they drafted for need. But the passed on Leonard Floyd, Tunsil, Taylor Decker to do so. If Williams or Taylor are teh BPA at 9, fine take them. I count 12 defensive prospects better than those guys. Seriously everyone, please understand that Jonah Williams and Taylor and Little are nowhere near the elite talent that Quentin Nelson is. Not even close.
