  1. That's just not how's it written in the NFL rule book, and I've spent too many precious minutes already looking at it tonight 😂
  2. He's past the first down marker, both feet are touching the ground, but he's talking out of bounds bc the pass is already a yard out of bounds. And the ball crossed out of bounds a yard before the first down marker.
  3. In the example I forgot to mention that I was assuming the player stretching out of bounds to make the catch and would touch out of bounds within moments of making the catch. Why wouldn't the spot be determined by where the ball crossed out of bounds for a receiver catching the ball who goes out of bounds?
  4. If the spot is determined by where the ball crosses the sideline, then a play could happen where a wr catches the ball laid out at the sticks, and if the ball crosses out of bounds before the 1st down marker the spot should be moved back and there's no first down.
  5. I found it. The ball itself has to touch out of bounds to make the player out of bounds... BUT when a player goes out of bounds, the spot is placed where the ball crossed out of bounds. Item 2. Runner Out of Bounds. If the ball is in player possession when that player goes out of bounds, the out-of-bounds spot is the forward point of the ball when the ball crosses the side line, or, if the ball does not cross the sideline, the forward point of the ball at the instant the player is out of bounds.
  6. I've seen the "new" application of the rules a few times. I have the full NFL rule book, I'll see what it says.
  7. Exactly. That's a great point, and it makes me wonder if the OOB rule is different for a runner vs. an attempted catch.
  8. So in the case of the ball crossing above the white paint of the sideline, is it ruled out of bounds when any portion of the ball crosses, like when any part of the foot touches? Or when the whole ball crosses over, like in soccer? I don't think you can... Anymore... And I'm not sure when that changed. But it seems to have.
  9. The ground can't cause a fumble in this case bc only ball that is a catch can be fumbled. I hate this rule on plays like this, but the ground can most definitely cause an incompletion.
  10. Underated candidate for play of the game. 1st and goal for the Ravens at the Bills 1 yard line with 5 mins to go. The Bills lineup with 6 D-Lineman, not their traditional 4-2 nickel that they seem to play in short yardage, even on the goal line. Milano stuffs them for a big loss, and forces them to abandon the run.
  11. Definitely looked to be in pain. Hopefully not an actual injury... Having him back today really helped the defense.
  12. They had 2 receivers in the slot to the right, and nobody filled that passing lane when TJ blitzed. Bad play design or execution.
  13. If Taron Johnson turns his head that's a simple INT.
  14. They should have stopped him shorter. But the rule is that the ball is spotted where it went out of bounds, not where the ball is when his feet touch. Kind of like a ball in the air over the touchline that curls back in.
  15. It's almost like 1 play, one quarter or one half don't define a whole game, season or career. Who knew?
  16. Damn, Lil Dirty. ***** that sucks.
  17. Like they say across the pond... @GunnerBill All to play for!
  18. Can't argue with that... Really needed a drive to make it 20-10 before half... A defensive play here would be nice.
  19. That was a terrible run design.
  20. Up to this point, no doubt. I wish all of the fortune tellers who know how this game is going to end could have given me the heads up before hand so I could have made some money! Games not over. This is a really good opportunity for Josh to dig deep and learn how to come back after some big down moments.
  21. Apparently the Ravens can horse collar our blitzers this game.
  22. Epenesa or Basham may be better suited on early downs against the heavy run package of the Ravens. Save him for obvious pass downs.
