Vincent Jackson found dead
ColoradoBills replied to TBBills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He was a local Colorado Springs kid who was a star here in High School. Very sad. -
The $24M was from his unguaranteed "base salary". It would of went away if he retired or not. The only thing they are doing is keeping him on the roster until June 1st. He has a $22M dead cap that will be split over the next 2 years instead of all being hit at once. The move is legal and it still does not get them out of cap hell. Spotrac still has them needing to cut out $70M AFTER they lose a HOF QB! Players will be cut/traded and their UFAs will likely sign elsewhere.

This QB carrousel is getting crazy this year. I'm so glad the Bills are off that merry-go-round!

Joe B article speculates John Brown will be cut
ColoradoBills replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
John Brown probably is the odd man out. It would be nice to keep him for his last year but he probably gets swapped out to sign Daryl Williams. If that's the way it ends up I'm sure there's a decent chance to find a speedy WR in the mid-round draft or somewhere else for cheap money. I would like to see him stay but I don't think it will be a detriment to let him go. -
Is McDermott aggressive? NFL.com thinks so.

Everything was going pretty good until he met the best team in football. He seems like a guy that can learn from what happened. -
Agree MGK. His market value on Spotrac is $8.3M which will make a lot of teams interested. I'd add New England to that list. After the QB trade frenzy is over Trubisky is about the best UFA QB out there (omitting Dak). He'll end up on a team that didn't get a trade and is at risk of missing out on the top 2-3 draft QBs.

This is an option I thought is available and used often. I'm under the assumption that the "tender" offers are to guarantee a team keeps itself in the negotiations IF the player has offers from other teams. The tender offer salaries are a 1 year contract deal but I thought a team could negotiate a multi year deal that does not have to have that minimum salary in it. I guess what I'm asking is couldn't the Bills designate Bojo as a "first right" tender at ($2.1M for 1 year) but end up signing him to lets say a 3 year $5 Million ($1.67M per year) contract? Does anyone know this for sure?

Bills TE Lee Smith is contemplating retirement
ColoradoBills replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nothing wrong with eyes at all. The Bills need a pass catching TE. Like I said it's looking like Knox isn't that guy. The Bills need a blocking TE and I hope that Nate Becker can fill that role. Between those 2 types of TEs that is the lions share of snaps. BUT the Bills need an all around guy that can cover/relieve for injury/depth. That is who I think Knox is (at least until now). If you think he is "unworthy" of making an NFL team in that role I disagree. -

It seems to me fans confuse the difference between a pass catching TE, a blocking TE and an all around TE. The Bills need 1 of each. Lee Smith's role needs to be replaced with a blocking TE. Kroft's role needs to be replaced with a pass catching TE if Knox is proven to not be that guy. As of now I consider Knox to be pretty good at an all around TE. -

I've been hoping Nate Becker could take over the blocking TE assignment. Add on another 5-10 lbs. of muscle Nate! Maybe he can catch a few balls too. -
There is a lot of talk about SF just cutting (shaking loose) Jimmy G. I'm sure they will look to trade him. His cost for 2 seasons is 25M per. That's not a lot for a starter of even middle skills. I can see a needy team giving up a 3rd to secure him. NE doesn't have a 3rd this year due to their "camera work". $50M is a good chunk of money but after you pay a QB and re-sign a few of your UFAs (you guys got a boat load of them) some I would hope the Bills are looking at, doesn't leave a lot of money to put together an offense. I'm sure the Pats* will improve over the offseason but you my find that getting from a 7 win team to a 10 win team is not easy to do. I will be watching what goes on with your Pats* very closely and I'm sure we will have some interesting talks ahead.

Better yet have the 3rd true RB active and let Taiwan Jones walk! Jones had 6 ST tackles and dropped a perfectly thrown TD from Allen. Taiwan Jones full 3 years as a Buffalo Bill stats. 14 Combined Tackles 0 rushes 1 of 6 catches for 11 yards. 2020 Cap Hit: $1.7 Million. MOVE ON FROM THE SOON TO BE 33 YEAR OLD JONES!

Actually a very good point. IF Detroit can find someone who thinks Goff is worth an average of $26M per year they could make the trade with no Dead Money. Goff's contract if cut after next year is only $15M. They just may find someone to trade with. He wouldn't need to bring a lot in draft capital if Detroit is in full tank and just wants to get rid of Goff's salary. Per Spotrac. For sure it's pretty high but it's a lot less than the yearly average on the extension contract. For example: Mahomes signed a 10 year $450M ($45M yearly average) but he will be playing on his 5th year this coming 2021 season. His cap hit this coming year is ONLY $24.8M. LOL, only $24.8M.
-
Typically yes. His new contract will start the extension in 2023. 2022 will be a 5th year option. $6M over (in the hole) at the $175M cap "floor". It's already being talked about that the 175M will be higher. How much no one knows yet not even Beane.

1. First off all "franchise type QBs" signing an extension have their 5th year option picked up. Mahomes, Watson, Goff all did this. It's a way for the drafting team to get another year on the contract. Whether the cap goes up after the extension is signed is a negotiable aspect. I feel with the situation the Bills are in this year Josh will accept that the "cap hit" will remain low for 2021. This 5th year option is a teams decision and the player has no choice. He either signs it or not. 2. Restructures typically come in 2 types. 1. A pay cut. This is not done very often though it does happen. 2. Restructure to decrease the upcoming years cap hit. In Browns case he only has 1 year left on his contract so this can't be used. It could IF he signs for additional years, Typical restructure is done with players that have 2 or more years left on their contract with available non guaranteed salary. Simple way is a player has a non guaranteed $10M cap hit for 2021 with 10 million due in 2022 and 2023. A restructure of 6 million means that the 6M is "split" over the 3 years. What happens is this. 2021- 6M cap hit. (4M unguaranteed salary + 2M restructure bonus). Team saves 4M in 2021 and pays the rest over the next 2 years. 2022- 12M cap hit. (10M unguaranteed salary + 2M restructure bonus) 2023- 12M cap hit. (10M unguaranteed salary + 2M restructure bonus) 3. Lots of room for negotiations in the "Milano" situation. Lets just say he signs a 3 year 33M deal. That's an average of 11M a year. The 1st year hit could be as low as lets say 6M. But that means the other 2 years would be averaged of 13.5M.
-
Signing Bonus money must be paid out over a MAXIMUM of 5 years. One interesting and I'm sure "negotiable" aspect of the signing bonus is this. Teams can convert base salary into signing bonus after the new extension contract is signed. What that means is if there is still a year left on the rookie contract and/or a 5th year option some of the signing bonus does not necessarily increase the original cap hit.

Should NFL Adopt 3rd Place Game Week Before Super Bowl?
ColoradoBills replied to Dr.Sack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Free Agency can't get here fast enough! -
It was because his game day slot was eaten up by needing Taiwan Jones as a ST'er. Replace Jones with another player that can also be depth for another position. Bills need 3 dressed RBs of different styles to match against the particular D scheme for each game. IMO.
