I expect there are a lot of players in the Jerry Hughes/John Brown situation around the league right now. Some of these guys will get cut and be another name in the long FA list in their positions. Many won't be in great demand and I expect some to resign with their original teams at a bit lower of cap hit.

Well things are going to get interesting in the next 12 days. March 17th teams have to be under the 51 player cap. I'm sure Beane has talked to agents about restructures and is got both eyes on FA. Buckle up!

I have found Spotrac a better site for me. It's easier to read and I feel it has a lot more info. I specifically like how they break down salary and cap info on individual players. They also give details on if a player is traded as to cap implications.

Odd are very very high it gets done before September.

The only team that could try to do it the NFC would be the Lions. They have the #7 this year and 2 1st's next year and if they ate Goff's 2022 Roster Bonus of $15,5M it would essentially mean Goff only has a quarantined contract of $27M in 2021 with no Dead Cap after that. So they would have plenty of options to make a Watson trade work. A bit of a long shot but the more I think about it it's not that crazy.

All in line with the NFL dates and timing. The 1st thing that will happen is the Bills will exercise Josh Allen's 5th year option. Last year the Chiefs and Texans didn't do that until end of April which is well past the initial FA period. Mahomes and Watson had no problem with the timing and neither will Josh!

Good counterpoints that I will comment on. 1. Yes some of these OLBs (or any other position to my point) will be signed by their original team. Every time that happens the potential cap pool diminishes. If the Raven re-sign Judon it's also another team not looking to sign a high dollar Milano too. Right now the Cowboys have 27M in cap space but as soon as they sign Dak that is gone. Pittsburg will have a hard time signing JuJu and Dupree so Bud Dupree could be a big target. 2. Totally agree with the "fit" point. It's just a lot less teams with money looking to be that "fit" for a guy like Milano. If there is one he will be gone. If not he may be back for a one year deal. Spotrac has the average cap space for each team in the league at $15M with a $185M cap. If that is increased to $190M that an average of $20M per team average. 20M X 32 = $640M in total cap out there. If things were normal the cap would be $209M this year. But I just figured $190M. That's a 19M deficit. 19M X 32 = $608M less than normal. That where I get only about half the amount of cap space chasing Free Agents. Things will get interesting if these numbers become reality!

You bring up good points Hap and that is true for most typical years but the truth is that this coming year there is going to be only half of the money available chasing the same amount of free agents. Actually because of other teams in cap trouble it will probably be more free agent then ever. A number of those 11 teams also need to sign a bunch of their own FAs too. Those teams left that are looking for an OLB AND HAVE THE MONEY will be chasing bigger names than Milano to begin with. Correct. The "restructure bonus" is money he is 100% going to get. It was what they used in the past to push his owed money into the future. It seems his "signing bonus" was fully guaranteed for all situations so I see them not eligible to get it back or they wouldn't be doing what they are doing.

The $24M was from his unguaranteed "base salary". It would of went away if he retired or not. The only thing they are doing is keeping him on the roster until June 1st. He has a $22M dead cap that will be split over the next 2 years instead of all being hit at once. The move is legal and it still does not get them out of cap hell. Spotrac still has them needing to cut out $70M AFTER they lose a HOF QB! Players will be cut/traded and their UFAs will likely sign elsewhere.

Re-sign but the poll made me pick a tender choice so I picked RoFR. I don't think the Bills are "tendering" every RFA they would like to sign. I hope they sign Ike to a 3 year "show me" contract. $2-3M guaranteed with bigger money in the 3rd year not guaranteed. Fair for both sides.

John Brown probably is the odd man out. It would be nice to keep him for his last year but he probably gets swapped out to sign Daryl Williams. If that's the way it ends up I'm sure there's a decent chance to find a speedy WR in the mid-round draft or somewhere else for cheap money. I would like to see him stay but I don't think it will be a detriment to let him go.

Agree MGK. His market value on Spotrac is $8.3M which will make a lot of teams interested. I'd add New England to that list. After the QB trade frenzy is over Trubisky is about the best UFA QB out there (omitting Dak). He'll end up on a team that didn't get a trade and is at risk of missing out on the top 2-3 draft QBs.

This is an option I thought is available and used often. I'm under the assumption that the "tender" offers are to guarantee a team keeps itself in the negotiations IF the player has offers from other teams. The tender offer salaries are a 1 year contract deal but I thought a team could negotiate a multi year deal that does not have to have that minimum salary in it. I guess what I'm asking is couldn't the Bills designate Bojo as a "first right" tender at ($2.1M for 1 year) but end up signing him to lets say a 3 year $5 Million ($1.67M per year) contract? Does anyone know this for sure?

Nothing wrong with eyes at all. The Bills need a pass catching TE. Like I said it's looking like Knox isn't that guy. The Bills need a blocking TE and I hope that Nate Becker can fill that role. Between those 2 types of TEs that is the lions share of snaps. BUT the Bills need an all around guy that can cover/relieve for injury/depth. That is who I think Knox is (at least until now). If you think he is "unworthy" of making an NFL team in that role I disagree.

It seems to me fans confuse the difference between a pass catching TE, a blocking TE and an all around TE. The Bills need 1 of each. Lee Smith's role needs to be replaced with a blocking TE. Kroft's role needs to be replaced with a pass catching TE if Knox is proven to not be that guy. As of now I consider Knox to be pretty good at an all around TE.

I've been hoping Nate Becker could take over the blocking TE assignment. Add on another 5-10 lbs. of muscle Nate! Maybe he can catch a few balls too.
