THE ROCKPILE REVIEW - Don't Look to Me for Answers
Gray Beard replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Another aspect of this quick passing game that I wonder about is how to defend it. Several teams are doing it, so there should be a way to stop it. Hit the guy off the line? Get linebackers who can cover? I don’t know, but I’m not an NFL defensive coordinator. I was was also wondering about the play when Benjamin got hit. Should Allen have realized it was suicide for Benjamin to catch it, and therefore not throw it? That has to be a tough thing to learn. -
So what is the bigger need O-line or WR
Gray Beard replied to Kingston Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
O line requires two or three new pieces. WR requires one or two new pieces. A TE could help fill both needs, and I believe a TE upgrade is a good idea. If I’m being asked which one piece I think is most important for this team, I would say a tackle or guard. Usually tackles are viewed as harder to get and more important, so I would go for a tackle. -
Not at all. I don’t rank football as a major importance in my life. My point is that the game plan or execution or talent were so over matched that the offense wasn’t able to score, which is a disappointment. Are you upset at the word disgust? I didn’t want to say angry because I’m not. Perhaps we can decide on another word. Disappointed? Let down? Embarrassed? Flummoxed? Upset? Pick a word. Whatever works.

A shutout. That’s the reason for disgust.

The NFL has morphed into a quick pass league. Don’t hold the ball for more than a second or two. Don’t let he defense ever get close enough for a sack. That’s why these old, immobile QBs can still play. Long passing routes with double moves are so five years ago. Daboll has to get with the modern game plan.

The only compliment my wife ever gives me is that I married better than she did.

I’ve told my wife several times that I won’t leave her for another woman. For peace and quiet maybe, but not for another woman.

Being a homely guy who’s hung like a gnat, I find this discussion fascinating. And depressing.

Quitting during the week isn’t going to impress anyone. Quitting at halftime is the way to send a message.

Texting in the business world
Gray Beard replied to Captain Hindsight's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I recently had some asbestos removal done at my house. I was able to use texting for quick questions, such as verifying they will be coming even though it was pouring rain. Most other discussions were on the phone or in person. I like texting for the small stuff. Response is quick, no small talk. Just the facts. I also text my boss and coworkers if I’m going to be out or late. Quicker and easier than phone messages. I’m a grandfather. Retiring next spring. My kids are millennials. -

Porn was instrumental in the popularization and expansion of the internet. Now the same forces may spur the acceleration of robot development. -

Illegal formation Penalty question
Gray Beard replied to Dablitzkrieg's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It seems to me that I see illegal formations many times during NFL games. A slot receiver isn’t far enough off the line, or a tackle is a little too far off the line, etc. I thought it was a little weird that these things were being called since it seems to occur so frequently throughout the league. -
It stinks that Brady gets to pad his stats against a bad team. I only watch Pats games to see if Brady gets hit. Probably not tonight.

If the Bills win next week at Green Bay then the first pick in the draft is a sure bet -

Letting them score but running out the clock. That seems to be the plan. -
Bills in White on White for Week Three in Minnesota
Gray Beard replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Do the players vote on the uniforms? I understand that the home team picks light or dark shirts and the visiting team wears the opposite, but why white on white? Is white on blue unpopular with the players? -
Is Binghamton Bills country?
Gray Beard replied to greenyellowred's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For a few years the Jets had training camp in Cortland, which isn’t far from Binghamton. They probably knew there was a fan base to draw from. Bandwagoners are everywhere, thus the Pats stuff. As a Utica area person, I can attest to the fact that much of the fan base here is split between Giants and Bills. I imagine in Binghamton the draw of the New York City teams is stronger. Also, the college crowd in Binghamton has a large New York City area contingent. -
Vlad Ducasse...NFLs best pass blocker?
Gray Beard replied to CDogg20's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Excellent. Thank you. You point out that the TE and RB not blocking or picking up blitzes correctly are as big, or bigger, problems than the basic O-line play. That’s an interesting observation that I haven’t seen discussed. You also point out that rookie quarterbacks don’t always understand or trust the pocket. I hope that can be fixed with coaching and experience. -
