I wish Marcell well, but they had to unload him. He was easily our best DT even without a "sense of urgency". Still, he was tying up $108,000,000 of cap space over 6 years and playing like he was worth half that amount. We'll be better off in the long run, but will suck on run defense until we can reload at DT and LDE. Right now, Hughes is the only one really playing well in that group. Good thing we have lots of draft picks.

I'm a lot disappointed. He's playing like he should have lasted until the 3rd round. Our DL is a disaster right now.

Give Peterman the start vs. the Chargers - and -

I don't see us changing QB's any time soon, but if we lose to the Bolts and Chiefs, anything could happen. -
Players taking a liking to Benjamin
GreggTX replied to Buffalo716's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He has the best hands on the team and he's great at fighting for the ball in traffic. -
Let's see him win a playoff game first. Then I'll concede this point. In the mean time, give the Colts a call and see what's up.

I would add LB as well. Lorenzo is near retirement, Humber's spot needs a big upgrade and P Brown is average on a good day. We also need to do something about the pass rush. I'm pretty sure Kyle will retire after this season. He knows he can't still play at a high level.

Cordy Glenn injured AGAIN.
GreggTX replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hold on a sec with that trade. Good OL are a rare commodity these days and we don't even know what the injury is yet. His performance slipped a lot, but has been getting better of late. He has played well before and probably can again. -
Report: Huge Problem Brewing between Irsay and Luck
GreggTX replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Like I've said before, their roster stinks and they could add a lot of talent with extra picks. I'm still not holding my breath, though. It sure would be nice! -
I like the price tag, a 3rd and a 7th. Well worth it, IMO. It usually doesn't take TT long to get used to someone new and KB is a HUGE target.

Opinion: Writing Is on the Wall - Cam Is Coming
GreggTX replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I disagree. They will decide after the season and Taylor is playing well. Peterman may yet win the job or they draft the heir apparent. I think all of those things are more likely than Cam coming to Buffalo. -
PFF 2017 QB rankings - Taylor # 7!
GreggTX replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tyrod will never be a QB that can carry a team on his back, but he is making the most of it with minimal help. He's never had a solid WR corps for more than a handful of games. That he has done so much with so little is a credit to him and his work ethic. I still wouldn't object to drafting another QB this year and making him fight to keep his job. An elite QB can make up for a lot of holes elsewhere on your roster. -
Week 8: Raiders' Game Preparation - Inactives Announced
GreggTX replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With Gaines out, look for Johnson and Wright to struggle. If Poyer isn't healthy, even more trouble. No Darius means we'll be soft against the run as well. I see trouble brewing for Sunday. -
2018 salary cap & draft asset update
GreggTX replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't forget to print out a roster if you're going to a 2018 Bills game. You'll need it to keep track of all the new faces. -
It seems Jacksonville inherited all dead space that Dareus would have caused us, so I like this move. Still, our DL looks really bad right now. Hughes is having his best season to date, but Kyle is nowhere near probowl caliber any more. Shaq is a real disappointment thus far and our remaining DT's are just dumpster diver quality. At LB, Lorenzo is the only LB having a decent season and Lorenzo's play has also fallen off. Our defense may struggle as we near the end of the season. They've looked pretty soft these last 2 games anyways. How is our cap space looking now?
-
This is a good trade if both of the following conditions are met. 1. Dareus never plays at a probowl level again and 2. We have no dead weight for him any more. Jacksonville just bought his contract too.

What Would It Take For You To Quit The Bills?
GreggTX replied to boyst's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree, OP. I grew up in Erie County as a life long Bills fan. I've relocated, but if they removed the team from WNY, I'd simply lose ALL interest in the NFL. -
John McCargo arrested on charges in 2 states

Due to the jaw dropping stupidity of a few of these responses, it would be a good idea to end this thread. -
Week 7...Expecations should return to pre-season
GreggTX replied to Jobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed, but I am still going with 'we're a .500 team until proven otherwise. The defense is better, but not great. Our DL is slightly above average, our LB corps is weak. We still could use an upgrade at CB, IMO. Kyle will retire and Lorenzo is not playing as well in this system. He may retire also. We still have work to do on both sides of the ball. -
No kidding. Chan knew how to use him. Too many coaches are complicated for being "flexible" with their schemes when tney are not. I hope he gets another shot with someone that understands how to use him effectively.

Just had a brief convo with Donald Jones.
GreggTX replied to Cherrybone's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sure we need a better QB. We need an elite WR, at least 2 better OL, at least 2 better LB's, better depth behind Shady, better depth at CB and a new starting DT to replace Kyle. Additionally, Dareus and Lawson need to step up their game a LOT. Still, I'd start with QB, but I wouldn't dump Tyrod until another QB shows clear evidence that they are better. -
Kyle Orton on the Wall of Fame...yes or no?
GreggTX replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just because all the QB's we've had recently have been bad doesn't mean we should put the best of the bad QB's on the wall. He wasn't even good. Mediocre at best. The #4 defense carried that team to 9 wins, not Orton. And since when did Kelley win "nothing"? I've been watching the Bills since 1960 and I can assure you that we've had several better QB's who aren't up there like Flutie, Ferguson, Kemp, Lamonica, Bledsoe and Shaw were all better. Maybe some of those guys are already on the wall, though. Tyrod may be better too. That's debatable, but not out of the question. Besides, Orton only played 1 season here. Let's put Chris Spielman up there first or any number of guys from the best D ever to take the field for an AFL team and gave us back to back championships, including a 23-0 drubbing of the league's best offense in 1965. I can think of a LOT of former Bills who are more deserving. -
Finding Teddy: Should the Bills acquire Bridgewater?
GreggTX replied to BringBackOrton's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's no better than Tyrod, IMO. Why bother? I say draft another QB and stack more talent at the position and let them compete for the job. If, by some miracle, an established QB becomes available, grab 'em. I know I have a better chance of getting hit by lighning, but they should call the Colts and see if there's any chance they'd part with Luck. The Colts have perhaps the worst overall roster in the NFL other than TY and Luck. Maybe they would go for a slew of high picks and a new QB in a draft that might have several good ones. Luck can't do it alone. Yeah. I know it'll never happen, but stranger things have happened. Still, a late 1st round QB and Peterman competing with Taylor might just work out. I don't think the top 2 (or so) QB's in this draft will be available to us. Still too many QB hungry teams out there. -
Agreed, but the receivers need to get open too. The protection must be there, of course, but I always believed that playcalling is an underappreciated art. Keeping the defense guessing really helps. We also are using a very different blocking scheme which may not be a good fit given the personnel we have. Tyrod must attempt the throws, but continuously throwing into tight windows can lead to more picks. Your observation is correct, though. Just adding my own. There's plenty of blame to go around.
