I should have been more careful about the way I said it. The mechanics of Allen's release are indeed quick. I'm speaking more generally about getting rid of the ball more quickly. On some plays it is going to take time because the play may be a slow developing play. At other times, if Allen is not having to make some unnecessary reads, he can get through the essential reads more quickly, and reduce the pressure on his offensive line. For a long time Tom Brady was one of the hardest QBs in the league to sack. A major factor in that is Brady's ability to make quick reads post snap. It's not a stretch to assume Brady has had a good grasp of what reads are unnecessary, so he's no wasting time making them.

Levi Wallace called me!! - Answered questions!

My cancer was three years ago. Fortunately I had good insurance, but yeah, my 4 chemo treatments would have been a quarter million out of pocket without that insurance. I can only guess what my surgery and week long hospital stay cost. God speed on your continued battle. I hope you beat this. In my case, so far so good! -
I think Davis is bigger, but ran a very incomplete route tree in college. Robert Woods came into the league as a fairly polished route runner. Davis was great at what he did in college, but he has a lot to work on in terms of route running. This has nothing to do with his talent or work ethic. It is simply about the deficiencies of his college background.

This take is based on an article from Sal Capaccio, which in turn is based on Josh Allen's appearance on a show on CBS Sports. The show's MC is Tony Romo and he interviews Allen along with Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones. Romo's question: "What aspect of the game seemed very difficult when you started in the NFL, but is much easier now?" https://wgr550.radio.com/articles/news/allen-eliminate-what-the-defense-cant-be-playing Josh didn't exactly answer the question, but went into what he's been working on in the off season with regards to reading defenses. He's been studying his film from last season under Ken Dorsey's long distance tutelage. Essentially, he states that in the past he was trying to read things in the defense that he didn't need to read. To clarify, in his pre snap reads, every QB can and should determine what basic defense he's facing. In any given defensive alignment, there are things the defense can do and things they can't. In the presnap read, the QB should already be determining what the defense can't do, unless they switch out of that defense. Therefore, once the ball is snapped, some the reads you might otherwise have to make can be eliminated, so the QB can focus more on what remains. He growing edge is to become more consistent in eliminating what he doesn't need to read (post snap) so he can go through the essential reads more quickly. That will result in a quicker release on lots of plays, which will reduce sacks and provide relief to the offensive line. The caveat is the fact that lots of defensive coordinators (including Bill Belichick and McDermott/Frazier) teach their defenses to line up in one alignment and then shift at the snap into something else on many plays. The QB has to be alert for that, and change his post snap reads accordingly. If Josh can develop this part of his game so it does become consistent, it could make a significant difference in his overall play. If he can do that, and rediscover his long ball accuracy, we may have a top 10 QB.

I expressed concern after day two of the draft over the team speed issue. It is something that GM's need to monitor and address. Fortunately, I think the Bills did get somewhat faster over the offseason, at least on offense. Defense is another issue. Zach Moss apparently has a sub par (for him) performance at the combine, and he is faster than he timed. Of course, Diggs was the big addition in the speed department. Beasley has little speed, but Brown and Diggs gives Buffalo one of the better outside pairs in the league. Dawson Knox, if he can learn to hold on to the ball, is one of the faster tight ends in the league, and of course Josh Allen has ample speed at QB, which he puts to good use. As I said, defense is another issue. Tre White is plenty fast enough for the kind of game he plays, though he's not going to be ranked with the fastest DBs in the league. Buffalo has a couple fast linebackers in Edmunds and Milano, and they've got a very fast DT in Ed Oliver. Otherwise, they got slower in bringing Epenesa in for Shaq Lawson. I don't know how fast Addison is, but I'm guessing not freakishly so. Jerry Hughes depends more on an explosive first step and overall quickness, than a great 40 time. Overall, I'd guess the defense is not one of the faster ones in the league. They perform well based on discipline and communication rather than the pure athleticism of the players, Tremaine Edmunds being the notable exception as his speed/size blend is freakish.

Aaron Rodgers speaking to reporters Friday

I don't know that we can predict what will happen going forward, but Aaron Rodgers' disapproval of Green Bay's draft strategy was about as inevitable as lightening in a thunderstorm. -

The thing I like about Moss is that he's not just a tough runner. He's a smart articulate guy who studies film to learn how to attack his opponents. My player comp for Moss is Marshawn Lynch, but Lynch was mostly just a tough guy who liked to run over people. Moss can do that, and may even like it, but he'll also juke a defender, and I think he's a fair amount faster than his combine 40 indicates. His combine 40 was comparable to Lynch's speed if I recall correctly. -

People often talk about blockers getting "pancakes, but when your ball carrier can get pancakes, that's something! -

I suspect the move of the Raiders to Las Vegas is less about developing a local fan base and more about depending on tourists coming in and spending lots of money.

For Epenesa, I think it depends on what the Bills decide to do about Murphy. If the Bills have a chance to trade Murphy or cut him outright, I think Epenesa will probably start on the left side of the D-line over Quinton Jefferson while Mario Addison rotates in for Jerry Hughes.

I think Kmart means All Riveron and company deliberately caused the failure of the rule by refusing to overturn obvious bad calls on the field. This perspective, which I also hold, suggests that the referees had motivation to see the challenge rule fail because it was a threat to their power. If that is the case, and the league has dumped the replay rule, it's because the league caved and the referees won.
-
I think Al Riveron should have been canned before the PI replay, but that's just me.
-
Well, Marshawn Lynch is not a terrible player comparison.

It does make it more of a guessing game for the defensive coordinator to decide who you're going to try and double cover, or which way you're going to roll the safeties in zone. The more talented and reliable options the offense has, the more the defense has to rely on players making plays one on one against those talented offensive skill position guys. It may also mean defensive coordinators will be less inclined to stack the box, which in turn may open up the running game more. Yet as has been said, they have to prove they can do it on the field.

way way way too early 2021 nfl draft SWAGS

I understand the injury issue with Morse, but the Bills signed him to a multi-year deal knowing about the concussions. If they were THAT concerned, I don't think they take that risk. -

I honestly don't think the Bills are anywhere close to replacing Mitch Morse. I could see a gadget player on offense or a DB, or a replacement for Addison/Hughes. I don't see Epenesa as that eventual replacement. I think they would look for a guy who has more explosion and bend. -
Talk of no alcohol at NFL games this season.

Personally for me, it's a non-issue. If circumstances work out, I'll try to go to a game.
