He likes what Simms says because there’s context and it makes sense.... and that’s not to say that anyone that says anything bad about Allen is wrong. But it’s refreshing to see an actual NFL qb saying something other than the lazy narrative of “he’s not accurate. Blah blah blah”.... which is what the majority do. It’s lazy.

I would add the Steelers as long as Bens elbow holds up. There’s no reason that defense shouldn’t remain a top 5 unit and, IMO, they would have won 10 games last year even with just solid qb play. And you’re right about the reporting. You really have to consider the sources. While your regular reporters are sticking with the same lazy takes, most former players I’ve seen talk about the bills(Irvin, Spears, orvlosky, Simms, O’Hara) have said they consider them favorites in the East and actual contenders.

It’s been gaining some steam as the offseason has rolled along. Right after the season ended Adam Schein proclaimed buffalo as the favorites in the East. Dan Orvlosky was on Espn the other day after the diggs trade. He talked of how he thought of the bills as the favorites to win the East even before the diggs move and Brady leaving NE. He said he now considers them legitimate contenders in the AFC. It’s all just lip service at this point, but my goodness it’s refreshing!

As a general rule, the best at their respective positions consistently accumulate good numbers. Year in and year out the top of the sack lists are most generally full of the same names. Basically league wide the “elite” rushers consistently get home to the qb. Most any HOF D-lineman heading into the hall since the sack had be a registered stat has huge sack numbers.... at what point does a guy finally need to actually freaking produce to deserve to be talked about, and paid, like the best in the league? I seriously can’t ever remember so much hype for a player that has statically produced so little. I’m not even saying stats are the end all-be all. But they’re usually a solid correlation between production and level of play. I think clowney is nice player but IMO he’s fairly overrated. At some point you need to produce.

Gurley seems to me like a modern day Shaun Alexander. Tons of touches with a physical style. 2 or 3 years of elite production and the wheels wore right off

“Big need” is a bit excessive IMO it could be upgraded but our DB’s and the depth is just fine if this is what they go forward with.
