Yes. I can't blame McDermott for kicking on a 4th and 9 with a makeable FG, but we all knew it was over the second Bass trotted onto the field. We just didn't realize it would be our kicker ending it.

Random talking head says something about the Bills
SCBills replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's amazing, right? New England was lucky for a decade. KC has been lucky for six years running. Somehow only teams like us have the aw shucks, ol' bad breaks.. Or maybe it's more than that and people who chalk things up to luck use it as a defense mechanism when they repeatedly come up short. -

I agree, but his overall point is that none of that matters when you don't win. Allen had the most insane 4th quarter, clutch throw I've ever seen in my life. Diggs dropped it. Nobody cares. It doesn't exist. It's a ghost. Mahomes throwing to a wide open Kelce is the highlight plastered all over television today. The all-time great QB connecting with his all-time great TE. That highlight very well could have been Allen connecting with Diggs as the Bills go on to face the Ravens. But it's not.. It doesn't exist. Allen to Shakir at the pylon was better than any throw Mahomes has made in the playoffs, but it's a footnote in the Mahomes story, instead of a highlight in Allen's. It's not, at all, over dramatic. Go outside our fanbase. Allen is becoming a main character in the Mahomes story and it has nothing to do with Allen. That's the worst part. If nothing changes, we will look back at this as the biggest waste of talent in the history of the NFL.. How's that for over dramatic? -

Absolute gut punch Short of Allen demanding we fire McDermott, I don’t ever believe these paragraphs will change -
The "this close" hand gesture to Allen on that bomb was such a clown move. That's a "pat your chest , my bad" gesture.
-
KIncaid is going to be a superstar. Shakir has all the making of a top tier Slot WR with inside/outside flex. Should have had 2 TD's yesterday along with making multiple tough catches. Why do we need to sign big name WR's? This draft is loaded. Diggs would be perfect for teams with cap space and/or Dallas if they want to fulfill that fantasy. RD1/RD2 give Allen a couple WR's like Green Bay has while knowing we bring back a very good OL with a trio of Kincaid, Shakir and Cook.
-
I still think he has WR1 ability in him, but I think it's run it's course here. I do think he and Allen have some sort of friction for whatever reason. And I do think he's out of rhythm from not being the focal point. I don't think he has Top 5 WR ability any longer though. Unless it's revealed he's had a major injury, the last half of the season and the playoffs are just not on that level... not even close.
-
No more tweaking. Tear it down. I don't think that means a wasted year either. Our defense will still have Oliver, Rousseau, Milano, Bernard, Douglas, Benford, Johnson. Just need to add enough to make it a middle of the pack group. On Offense, if we take this tear it down strategy, I'd rather keep Morse. Bring back this Top 5 OL. Know you have Shakir, Kincaid, Knox and Cook. Draft WR's early and often. Preferably doubling up on Day 1 and Day 2.
-
Bills Top 5 OL comes back next year. James Cook year 3. Kincaid Year 2. Shakir Year 3. There's your trio to rely on heading into next season. I'm more than willing go heavy WR early in this draft. I'd literally pull a Rousseau/Boogie and hope they actually get it right with the WR's.
-
There's a chance. I didn't believe it would be on the table prior to this post-season, but I think this off-season might shock some people. The Bills can clear cap, and maybe it's not to re-sign guys.. maybe it's to reload through the draft and get younger.
-
This X 1000 Spags has a leaky run defense and lost his best run stuffing DT heading into our game. He made adjustments in the second half and said nah, y'all aren't running the ball down our throats so find another way. We somehow took absolutely nothing away from them. Pacheco running the ball, go ahead. Kelce wide open, go ahead. Other WR's down the field, go ahead.
-
IF the Bills are able to maneuver around his cap hit and someone offers a Second Round Pick. Do you take it? Where there's a will, there's a way and I think it's a no-brainer to trade him at this point if not for the dead cap. I was on his side over the summer, but he's just negative energy at this point. Weird vibes and doesn't back it up on the field. Gets shut down, again, by Kansas City. Fumbles on the first play. Drops a 65 yard bomb in the 4th Quarter from Allen and makes a gesture intimating that it was on Allen. I'm over it. I'd rather give Allen a couple Day 1/Day 2 Wide Receivers to go with Kincaid, Knox, Shakir and Cook at this point. The dead cap hit might make this completely impossible, but if the Bills can get creative, I think we're better off. The relationship just seems like it's run it's course.
-
Ben Johnson, Bobby Slowik, Jim Harbaugh, Mike Vrabel.. I'd take any of these guys over McDermott. This seems like as good a year as any to make a move given the roster reconstruction we'll be going through these next two years. I don't want a defensive HC but do I think Mike Vrabel would've coached a better defensive effort last night? Unequivocally yes.

I agree and disagree. Allen clearly saw that Shakir would clear the defenders and be open pre-snap. He locked in on the killshot. .....except it wasn't a killshot. Even if Dawkins doesn't get dog-walked by Jones to hit Allen, Mahomes gets the ball back, down 4, with a couple minutes and two timeouts against our joke of a defense. As much as I know it's difficult to blame Josh for making a bad decision on what would normally be the right read in any other cirucmstance... this wasn't that circumstance. If he foregoes the TD shot and hits Diggs for a first down, like was the entire vibe of that drive... kill the clock and score with little to no time left, we'd be set up to potentially score with KC getting the ball back with under a minute and no timeouts, down 4 needing a TD. If we played it perfectly, we could've gone up with less than 15 seconds. It's really hard to criticize him for this decision, but given the gameflow.. I hate to say.. I think it's warranted. It wasn't a bad decision. It just wasn't the right decision.

Im actually frustrated the Chiefs played their best game in 2 months.

Mahomes missed two wide open TD's on the same drive early and they fumbled out of the back of the end zone. They blinked too.. but in the biggest moment their star DL beats our star OL to disrupt a TD, which leads to a missed FG... Game Over. -

Should've played in Atlanta on Sunday then. The NFL didn't force us to play at home on Monday. -
-WC Loss to the Houston Texans. We weren't ready. Second half collapse, but Year 2 Josh Allen. Not the end of the world. -AFC Championship Game vs KC. Defense was handed an early lead and proceeded to lay an egg. But hey, we're making strides and weren't ready for that moment. But we're on the right track. -AFC Divisional Game vs KC. 13 seconds. Abject failure that falls directly on the coaching. We'll apparently never know where the disconnect was in those final moments, but ok. -AFC Divisional Game at home vs CIN. No show all around. Damar Hamlin, mental exhaustion... ok. Fine. -AFC Divisional Game at home vs KC. Defense is an absolute dumpster fire. McDermott leading that Defense. But we have injuries, so... Spags had injuries too, and managed to make life difficult in that second half, but ok... Playoff wins over Miami with a backup QB, Pittsburgh with a backup QB, Baltimore, New England and Indianapolis. Every year, aside from 13 seconds, he's had a valid excuse. First two years, building, making strides... But then 13 seconds happened, and our Defense has been an absolute liability against the Bengals and Chiefs. He gets next year, I'm sure, but there can't be anymore excuses. Valid or not.. he's used all of them up. We talk about needing luck yet NE ran the AFC for a decade + and now KC is doing the same. It's not luck, as much as we want to pretend it is. And when we watch Allen play Mahomes.. it's not the QB. So what is it? Rhetorical question, because we all know.. and he's out of excuses. Valid or not. You can't have one every year.

A lot of us took Diggs side over the summer. I was one of them. But sorry.. you have to then back it up with actions. And Diggs went from WR1 to WR3 second half of the season and then drops the filthiest dime of a deep ball in a Divisional Game.. after, once again, getting murked by Sneed all game. I miss the “I’m him” Diggs, because i have no idea who that guy reppin 14 is out there anymore.
-
Spags has a leaky run defense. Lost his best run stuffing DT last week. Lost Willie Gay mid-game. Lost a Safety mid-game. Found a way to adjust and make life, somewhat, difficult for Josh.. especially given our WR situation outside Shakir. So, believe it or not.. it can be done, even with injuries.
-
In fairness, I don’t think their drafts have been way better than ours of recent. They look to have missed on Skyy Moore, traded a pick for Toney, the DE they just drafted can’t get on the field and Karlaftis is a less athletic Rousseau. They nailed their secondary though.. and McDuffie vs Elam is really the difference between them and us with Benford’s success vs their young safety who’s been injured and platoon corners.
-
I think Beane is towards the higher end of GM’s, but he has blind spots that are becoming increasingly worrisome. If he doesn’t majorly address WR this year, after two years of it being an issue, I may come around to your side.
-
That dead cap hit… Symbolically I want him gone. I don’t even care about anything rational at this point. Absolutely unacceptable from him this postseason.
-
Anyone else more low-key about this loss than you thought you'd be?
SCBills replied to Success's topic in The Stadium Wall
It’s exhaustion for me. Legitimate sadness for Josh Allen.. a guy who doesn’t deserve the playoff fates he’s been handed. The realization that we probably won’t win it with McDermott, but we aren’t firing him so it is, at least, another year of this. I’m not mad, I’m just tired of this organization/sport.. mainly because I have no reason to believe anything will change next year.- 160 replies

Divisional Playoffs - Chiefs at Bills - Post game thread
SCBills replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
No, it wasn’t ideal. I agree - It was a tough spot. But I can’t keep giving a defensive head coach excuse after excuse as to why his defense fails us against good offenses in the playoffs every year. That performance was horrific. Beyond anything I could have possibly predicted.. especially given our offense played ball control all game. At some point, it’s him .. not the mental exhaustion or injuries or team not being ready for the moment yet or miscommunication/confusion on a late drive with 13 second left. -
Divisional Playoffs - Chiefs at Bills - Post game thread
SCBills replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
He did … until last night. And most us no longer care about what he does in the regular season, provided he makes the playoffs. Last night, he had a chance to win most us doubters over and he failed in spectacular fashion. I didnt expect a dominant performance given the injuries… but I sure as **** didn’t expect that.
