I dunno, when the D was healthy I thought McDermott did a good job. I may be in the minority, but in that rough stretch leading up to Dorsey's firing, I thought the D was the main reason we stayed in a quite a few games. Offense just couldn't get out of their own way, and basically made the D keep the game close until they finally started scoring points in the 4th qtr. Then again, they lost Milano & White and didn't get Douglas until the trade deadline, and were just up & down afterwards. Pats game was a dud though, so McD deserves all the s*** for that.

Well yeah, mostly. Coaching plays a role, but talent & execution on the field is a bigger factor. There were plenty of times, even under Dorsey, where fans were pissed about playcalling on a drive.... But when a play is there & you got the look that was wanted, it's not on the OC if the receiver drops a pass that hits them in the hands. Maybe it's a play that doesn't even get a chance to develop, as a linemen just whiffs on a block & is instantly in the backfield. That's execution & talent. Then again, the HC has major input in what talent we do have. So even if it's not coaching, the coach (and FO) deserves some blame for the lack of talent.

Poor guy... If the defense does well, he's just McDermott's puppet. If the defense under performs, he's the next scapegoat to protect McDermott. I like the promotion, just doubt he'll get fair credit for what he puts into it.

Leslie Frazier interviewing for Dolphins DC
BigDingus replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
That'll make the Dolphins much better, especially against the Bills. Hope they don't hire him 😅 -
Call me a loser then, I don't care. Josh isn't a "loser," and that's my point. If you've listened to any Bills talk after the Chiefs loss, all you hear is people mocking Allen as "Mahomes' son." And the amount of times I've read & heard "Mahomes v Allen isn't the next Brady v Manning, that's Brady v Rivers.... the real rivalry is Mahomes v Lamar!" Yeah, well what now? The guy that's 2-4 in the playoffs and a 2 x MVP with a healthy team... that's the "REAL" 2nd best QB in the league? Yeah right. I'd rather have Mahomes win every playoff game until the Bills have a shot at him again. Note, I said PLAYOFF, not post season. Just like I was rooting for a Bucs vs Bills Super Bowl in 2021 so the Bills could topple Brady, I want them to be the ones to take out the Chiefs.

At least he wants to run the ball, so I'm excited to see what he schemes up given an entire off-season. Hopefully we target some speedy WRs & grab some more O-linemen. Oh, and maybe bring in a kicker or two just to be thorough. Perhaps hit up some of those YouTube kickers that nail shots 70 yards out, but only in perfect conditions & street clothes 😂

Interesting stat I saw in regards to regular season losses
BigDingus replied to warrior9's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah, but context matters. Losing a 1 point lead with plenty of time left isn't some crazy collapse, especially in a game where the guy you're seemingly defending threw 2 INTs & added a fumble. Or when you score 3 points in a half, turn it over multiple times, and wait until 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter to finally eek ahead (against a terrible team), it's not quite the defensive meltdown it sounds like. It'd be like saying "Josh lead a drive to send a game into OT, but the defense choked by giving up a TD in OT!"... Then seeing that was the Jets game & Allen had 4 turnovers. Context matters, and even the 4 losses you're talking about were TEAM chokes, Allen included. -
Greg Cosell - “I don’t think they have a number 1 WR”
BigDingus replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
Mike Evans is the same age as Diggs, and he's still putting up numbers no matter who's behind center. I think Diggs can definitely be a number 1 still, it's just a matter of scheming & play calling (as well as improving the other talent at WR), along with commitment to stay with this organization. -
Makes you wonder what difference Deandre Hopkins could've made on this team, or what we could've done with that Von Miller money. I'm not saying going after Von was bad, especially at a time when we saw how critical it was to have a strong pass rush. But had our picks in the draft panned out, there wouldn't have been a need to pay a monster contract to a veteran on the downside of his career. Even when this defense was ranked as high as it was, did people ever feel it was as game-changing or dominant as our defense was, for example, under Schwartz in 2014? I believe McDermott is a very capable defensive-minded coach, but the Bills are still missing something there. Offensive line should still be a huge priority imo. Especially if the Bills plan to be a balanced unit that prioritizes running the ball, they'll need to keep investing in the line. Speed at WR is a must, so I'm glad he mentioned that. It's unlikely we find the next Tyreek Hill, but even a younger John Brown-type would be great. Overall, they need to get younger at many levels. We know both of our amazing safeties are falling behind. But offense is still the priority to me. We've seen what a top ranked defense gets us, but it never amounts to much against top QBs. So instead let's support our own top QB & give him the best chance to succeed by outscoring opponents.

Am I the only one not planning on watching Chiefs/Ravens??
BigDingus replied to Special K's topic in The Stadium Wall
But why do Bills fans want Lamar to supplant Allen in the media & fans' eyes? Everyone saw what happened when the Bengals beat the Chiefs to make it to a Super Bowl. Burrow got all the credit, and the conversation quickly became Mahomes #1, Burrow a close #2, then everyone else a tier below. People give ALL credit & blame to QBs these days, and Lamar knocking off Mahomes would just have him leapfrog Allen in most people's eyes. If you look forward to seeing Allen disrespected & ranked consistently lower than Lamar on all player & QB tier lists, then sure... cheer for the Ravens. Don't forget Allen's performance at home head-to-head against Burrow in the playoffs last year. Fans of other teams haven't. Don't believe me, pin this comment & come back next season when you see those "Allen is being disrespected!" threads pop up everywhere. It will not be fun listening to people hype up Lamar, Mahomes & Burrow next post season, all while they disregard Allen's play through 18 weeks in anticipation of another loss in the playoffs. -
Exactly! I want the Lions or 49ers to win the Super Bowl. I just don't want the Ravens to even get there. If you guys have been listening to sports talk the past week, you probably heard or seen the comments on social media "Mahomes vs Allen isn't the new Brady vs Manning... 0-3 isn't a rivalry!" and "Mahomes vs Lamar is the TRUE rivalry!" I want those people to fall flat on their face. I want the Chiefs to blowout and embarrass the Ravens... If the devastated Bills defense with "turnover machine" Josh Allen take the Chiefs to the wire, but the MVP & amazing Ravens defense lose, maybe people will see stfu and stop pinning everything on Allen.
-
Don't read the comments under the Tweet. I haven't, but I'm sure most of them are mocking Dak & Allen being there.
-
I'm more selfish than that. I want Mahomes to win. If the Ravens KO the Chiefs & advance to the Super Bowl, that'll just make the narrative against Josh even stronger. "Every other elite QB in the AFC accomplished more & made a Super Bowl!" Burrow & Lamar both made more AFCCGs, both beat the Chiefs in the playoffs, both made a SB, and one even has an MVP (possibly 2). If Mahomes KO's Lamar, that drops his record to 2-4 in the postseason, and it'll still give Josh some breathing room.
-
Please no, not as an OC. I closely followed every step of Kingsbury's career (being a Texas Tech guy myself), but I don't have any confidence in his play calling abilities. He was instrumental in helping some prominent college QBs take that next step, but he shouldn't be calling an NFL offense. it would be cool to have him as the new QBs coach working closely with Josh, but he'd be even more one-dimensional than Dorsey calling plays. I can see it now...Air raid/spread college offense, going 5 wide, passing nonstop & getting asking Josh to chuck 40 attempts per game.

So like... round 2, pick 56 overall? 😉
-
Why does their great D show up in big games, while ours does not? An unusual amount of injuries hurt this year, but every other time we've had a top 5 D, it did nothing to slow down elite QBs come playoff time.

Ryan O'Halloran - Bills should go Defense Heavy in draft
BigDingus replied to BCAS Baritone's topic in The Stadium Wall
I know I'm jaded, but I couldn't care less about the defense at this point. McDermott has shown he can coach up late round picks just fine, and the 1st round picks have been hit or miss. Just give your star QB more weapons & more protection, then look for depth on D. Probably a dumb strategy, but a top 10 or even top 5 defense hasn't helped stop elite QBs yet, so why not try to outscore them? -
3 KC Chiefs Fans Found Frozen to Death after Charger game
BigDingus replied to RoyBatty is alive's topic in The Stadium Wall
These "friends" seem like they collectively share one brain cell... If these people are your "friends," how the hell do you not wonder why their cars are in front of your house for days after you last saw them? Then people were posting about the friends being missing, the home owner guy was aware they were missing, yet never said anything? I guess he also doesn't have a dog to let out back, trash cans, or even a glass window to take a peak into his back yard for 3 days? It's so unbelievably bizarre. And how do 3 grown men just hangout in the freezing cold all night together, and not one of them is coherent enough to notice how cold it is? Obviously drugs/alcohol were involved, but I've never been so drunk that I could just ignore the freezing cold. The second the tiniest breeze blew by, I'd wake right the hell up 😅 -
Harbaugh close to deal to become Chargers Head Coach
BigDingus replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
I would kill to have Harbaugh as our HC. I'm not quite in the "fire McDermott!" camp, but I sure as hell would take an upgrade like Harbaugh. There's no doubt in my mind he'll turn the Chargers around. It's annoying to think of yet another team & QB like Justin Herbert getting in our way. -
What realistic coaching changes do you expect?
BigDingus replied to BigBadBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't "expect" any. I think they'll give Brady more time, allowing him an entire off season to create his ideal system and make whatever adjustments he wants to make. I'm suspect there will be an emphasis on O-line & WRs in FA and the draft to help, as I believe the Bills saw the success they can have if they run a more balanced offense that emphasizes the run game. -
Are Championship games the goal? Losing one game later is the goal? "He just got unlucky..." You could say the same thing about McDermott 10 years from now! Do you remember all of those games? Do you remember every call he made? He kept losing is the point. And one thing he wasn't up against - one of the great QBs of all time in his prime. McDermott has a bigger hurdle than Reid faced. To all those people that blindly think "making the NFC championship 5 times & losing" is somehow better, how is this better? - Lost in 2001 to the Rams 29-24 - Lost in 2002 to the Bucs 27 - 10 - Lost in 2003 to the Panthers 14-3 - Lost in 2008 to the Cardinals 32 - 25 Different QBs every time, while losing earlier than the NFCCG every other time. The Bills lost to the Chiefs dynasty, and the same QB 3 times now. Every team that beat Reid & the Eagles lost in the Super Bowl. The team beating the Bills won 2 x Super Bowls already, could do it a 3rd time this year. And don't give me "the teams that beat him went on to the Super Bowl!" - Yeah, no s***. It's the conference championship game, that's how it works. If the Chiefs win the SB this year, did McDermott get "unlucky" again meeting the Chiefs in the divisional round? Point is Reid had a top QB in the conference, and each year lost out to a one & done SB loser 4 times. He made it to a SB once, but then got "unlucky" playing Tom Brady & the Pats. But we're in the middle of the new dynasty's run, yet acting like we're losing to nobodies.
-
Let's not forget Andy Reid's playoff history before Mahomes. How many NFC playoff games did he lose with those Eagles teams? Then a few more with the Chiefs. It took him a long, long time to get where he is now. McDermott doesn't have the wins now, but Reid made the playoffs a dozen times before getting over the hump (yes, he did make a SB appearance with the Eagles once too).

Pick 3 Current Bills You Would Pick To Start A Team With
BigDingus replied to Bills!Win!'s topic in The Stadium Wall
1. Allen 2. Kincaid 3. Milano If Diggs was younger & less expensive, he'd be #2. Oliver is a strong option too, but I think Milano is basically the leader & QB of the defense when healthy.
