McDermott The Only Defensive Head Coach in Divisional Round
Mat68 replied to ArtVandalay's topic in The Stadium Wall
Im a Mcdermott fan. He change the whole culture in Buf. I defended him yesterday on this thread. Sean Payton is a better coach. His offense with Allen would be difference maker. I will take a 1 superbowl over 0. -
1/22/23 GAMEDAY THREAD Divisional Playoffs Bills vs. Bengals
Mat68 replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think they attack Cincys Oline. White and Elam will have to make some plays on the ball. Cincy uses quick passes and a handful of shot plays. Vs single high Burrow will throw it outside deep to Chase and Higgins. -
McDermott The Only Defensive Head Coach in Divisional Round

I think organization stability and creating a positive culture would have made Buffalo a thorn in the side of Bradys Pats. The Bills have faced alot of adversity and expectations. Mcdermott was able to keep the team on track through it all. -
McDermott The Only Defensive Head Coach in Divisional Round

Because he gives Allen freedom. 99% of defensive minded coaches make the offense go super conservative after the second quarter vs Miami. Look at Staley with LAC. Up big they went ball control and blew the game to Jacksonville. Mcdermott has instilled confidence in Allen to be his best. You cant get last years playoff Allen without riding out games like last week. Forcing the offense to run more on first down and using other coach speak from the 80’s and 90’s is why many defensive coaches fail today. In the analytic world Mcdermott has found the balance imo. He will be aggressive, he will also kick and punt. Keeping the opposing team guessing is still important in these games. Knowing what the other team will do is an advantage. Its tough to accurately determine what Mcdermott will do in each situation. Each situation requires an individual decision. Many are too aggressive or too conservative. -
How confident are you the Bills beat the Bengals?

1 to 10 im a solid 7 in confidence. Burrow is at the elite level so he alone is the worry. What happens if Cincy plays like they did? Do we win or lose? -

Win the redzone and middle 8. Give Cincy the ball and let them run their scripted plays. Which is their best offense imo. See what they are doing adjust to it. Take the lead before half, Build on it after halftime and win the game. -

Defer. Give em the ball. Let Taylor show his hand run through his scripted plays. -
Chargers @ Jaguars Playoff Game Thread (i.e. NOT a Bills thread;-)

Not an ideal start for the Jaguars. -
This opens a clear path for Brown on game days. In the Playoffs they have unlimited call ups. I expect Buffalo to have active 6 active Diggs, Davis, Mckenzie, Beasley, Brown and Shakir. Depending on matchup and scheme I think you will see many unique formations. Also an uptick in 10 personnel. Buffalo ran a thin Wr room much of the year. I think that all changes now.

Yesterday was Buffalos worst passing defense effort this season imo. Now they did make plays to offset what they gave up. I attribute the majority of the issues on limited preparation. The last week was a blur and a haze for the team. That was a game won on emotion and heart. They didnt really do any out scheming. Just a shorter drop here and alignment here or there and now they have big passing windows. I expect the defense to play more buttoned up moving forward.

Who? I think you need need to watch the games not just the stats. Allen has a full game less than Mahomes. At the same time Buffalo has one of the best running games in the league currently. Teams are terrified to bring up their safety because Allen will do what he did yesterday. In 3 drives had a 49 and 50 yard Td in back to back drives. On the 3rd had a 50 yarder dropped. Buffalo will have to beat great teams to win it all. Imo Kc doesnt provide Buffalo the same problems Miami does and what Kc use to. There lateral and underneath style matches up to how Buffalo wants to play. Cincy has a great play script but they slow down in the flow of game. Bills fans have seen the upper realms of what Allen and the offense is capable of. The no punt game vs Ne. That is something not other team is compared to. Allen throws 3 tds 2 over 40 air yards but its not 300. No kidding. Buffalo lost 2 possessions because Hines accounted for 199 in return yards on his 2 tds.

I like the matchup. Coming off such an emotional week for the team imo it helps they are facing a familiar opponent. With or without Tua I think Buffalo is comfortable with what they will need to do. I expect the run game will be key to a Super bowl run. They took over the game on the ground last time around. Im curious if Cook has surpassed Singaltary after his fumble. Cook notably was the back that put the game away. That has been Singletary all year.

The Jests; from 7-4 to 7-9. An epic collapse

Flame out with Wilson and be in position for Stroud maybe Levis. I expect Bryce Young will go 1. Chasing a playoff berth is going to leave them sticking with White or another re tread they will have to over pay for. As a Bills fan I love it lol -

Defense and running game doesnt overcome a qb deficit. Have a bottom Qb you most likely will be an average team. This is where Buffalo lived for 20 years. -
Neither has Mahomes…. Playing at home is big deal in terms of beating elite qbs.

The narratives this past week makes me fairly annoyed. Bengals have the better run game. Bills 4 to Bengals 28. Allen is just too turnover prone and Burrow is much better. Allen has 1 more pick than Burrow. Yes Cincy has a great wr corp and Buffalo will have a challenge stopping them. However, no one mentions Cincy will be playing a rookie and Eli Apple vs Buffalos passing attack. I feel Buffalo matches up very well. I think Buffalo comes in focused and play there best game of they year. Buffalo wins in Cincy 38 to 24.
-
Buffalo wins they have a chance but than that makes Baltimore vs Cincy for the division. I think its Ravens v Bengals or Lions vs Pakers are the games. Buffalo playing for the 1 seed vs Patriots wildcard isnt as big as either of those games. Most likely stand alone 4pm game with Nance and Romo.
-
I will go deeper. Boyd and Mixon are the oldest Bengals. They know that the way they have played wont cut it. In the mist of a winning streak and national attention they are hoping there teammates step up.

Call it optimism call it being a homer. In these games when every talking head is picking Cincy in a close game I expect the game to be the opposite. The line is begging for the public to pick Cincy. With that and the noise coming from Cincy about how good they are I see Cincy set up for a let down.
-
Buffalo wins and imo it will not be close. Cincy is the the more consistent team blah blah blah. They played like garbage vs 2 poor teams. Tampa and New England lost those games Cincy did not win them. I think they are feeling themselves and buying into there own hype. Buffalo shows they are the best team in the AFC and possible league 34-17 Bills.
