  1. Sounds like you ended up convincing yourself that you agree with me. The light could come on for a few players like Washington and O'Leary, but a smart team would hedge and add depth now. You know how you do that? extra draft picks. After starting with 6, we had 8 than ended up back with 6. oh well, it looked good for a bit there
  2. Good teams still do it. They draft depth 2 years before a departure and groom them to take over if the guy bolts in FA.
  3. Zay seems like a nice player. But was he a 3rd round pick better than JuJu? I don't think so. The hubris of our personnel department kills me - so certain he was the only guy we could draft and had to have him. It's undisciplined.
  4. The only trade-up that makes sense is for a QB. early to mid-round draft picks are gold. You don't give them up for adjustments in your position to get non-QBs. That is why next year we will still be filling holes in the draft - DT, G, C, TE, OLB. These will all be needs next year and we have little to no current roster depth to fill them
  5. Drafts should be for building depth, not filling holes. We can't seem to get ahead of the curve. I assume Ragland will be playing WLB. This is perhaps the slowest LB corps in the league
  6. Been saying this for sometime. Get your top 5 OL on the field. Try it. Its got to be better than Mills
  7. Replace two former draftees with two new draftees. Can't say we ended up better off in the short-term. But that extra 1st pick is the honey. We will be better after next year's draft. I like the long-term strategy, but next year could be 4-12
  8. Exactly. Would have taken that trade with Houston over KC any day
  9. That's my take on first blush. A very late 1st, and a likely late 1st next year for #10? Should have demanded a 2nd, or an extra 3rd next year
  10. Glad some people are actually talking the merits of Reddick, which was the point. He's an interesting prospect, but is not being drafted as a DE or 3-4 OLB, his college position. He was a Safety when he first got to college, but was good at pass rush so they used him there. But he is projected as a 4-3 OLB in the pros. And with his 4.52 speed and coverage abilities, he seems to be a good fit. I do think that position change will keep him out of the top 10, so threw in the trade down option. But really I'd take him at 10. What do people think about going OLB with our top pick and not CB or WR. Most seem to discount OLB as a top need, but who else do we have that fits?? I think its a huge need for McD's defense. CB can be filled by a cover 2 guy in the 2nd. Darby is our #1 man, when we need it
  11. That's what I'm calling. I think we have three major needs - OLB, CB, WR. We can likely trade down and fill one while stockpiling picks for other needs and depth.
  12. you take him. that's the franchise for the next 15 years. Browns are considering him at #1. We need to finally get some cojones and address QB with a top pick
  13. The Civil Rights movement was in the '60s-'70s. Until that time schools and other public places were segregated and blacks routinely discriminated, especially in the south. That is not that long ago. Plus it built on centuries of slavery. We cannot undo that level of systemic discrimination in 40 years. It will take many generations. Now it's unfair to label people racist that were unaffiliated with those policies. But that doesn't mean we all can't, and really should, continue to do something about it. Calling for reforms of police tactics, particularly in this era of increased militarization is a reasonable request. You can't compare the legacy of centuries of slavery and discrimination of blacks to the Irish immigration experience (of which my great grandparents were a part), or any other immigrant groups. Mistreatment of blacks by the police has been going on for decades. What changed recently was the increased use of smartphones to capture high quality videos of these acts and mass sharing of them on the internet.
  14. Nice values, but didn't Whaley do the WR dumpster dive last year with horrible results? Don't see why it will work now. Hopefully we add some real talent in the draft
  15. Agree entirely. Put your 5 best linemen out there. the RT/LT divide is not so important anymore. There are lots of good pass rushers from the right side. The only thing I wouldn't want to mess up is the Richie/Glenn run game combo, but that might not be such an issue either
  16. This country has a deep history of racism against blacks. Slavery, Jim Crow, segregation - how can you argue otherwise??? Unfortunately, police treatment of blacks has long been an instrument of that oppression. While there are complications related to crime incidences and gangs, there has still been enough high profile evidence to call for more analysis and discussion, which is all Kapernick was doing. Honest, open discussions about race, including silent protests, are an important part of our continued national healing from our dark past. fwiw, Kaep is a pretty bad QB and that's why he's not signed (like Fitz, Geno, etc...)
  17. As usual, we'll be looking to the draft to find multiple, immediate starters (WR, CB, OLB?), rather than building depth
  18. It's nice to not have some offseason hype for once. Maybe means OBD is actually focusing on the things that count to build a winning team
  19. Sophomore sitting behind a two-year Senior starter. Still almost took his starting job. Makes sense to me. Plus some guys bloom later. Apparently he was a shy guy when he first came to UNC. Took some time to grow into a leader.
  20. would rather trade down and get him. Still haven't seen an example where a top 10 TE works out well. Also worried about Tyrod's ability to get him the ball. TT does best with fast WRs that can work outside the numbers
  21. I'm sure you can find a few exceptions of guys that had to bide their time behind a less than NFL college QB. Cam Newton comes to mind. Let alone Tom Brady. Russell Wilson basically got benched at NC State for a nobody so had to transfer to Wisconsin. It's a pretty shallow argument when you consider everyone at UNC was waiting for Trubisky to start. Williams, the Senior, just rose to the occasion. Trubisky probably should have waited a year to come out and it might cost him top 10 status. I'm not saying we should take him at 10. I think we have more immediate needs with Tyrod back under center. But if we can trade down or take him in the 2nd I"m all for it
  22. Marquise Williams was a really good college QB. He had that skill set, like V. Young, that translates well to college, but not so to the NFL (he's only a rookie anyways, and is with GB). Still, Trubisky beat him in spring practice and many UNC fans wanted him to start over Williams. But Williams got the start due to seniority and then lead the team to some big wins. All season the coaching staff kept looking for an opportunity to start Trubisky over him, but couldn't justify it with the winning streak they were on in 2015. You're right to be skeptical of one year of experience, but there are other ways to analyze a QB. Just ask Brady.
  23. Might as well say we should also ignore S based on Poyer/Hyde signings Still, I'm leaning towards Lattimore based on BPA and need intersection
  24. I'm only responding to your assertion that he's no better than EJ based on college stats. His stats are a good deal better than EJ and Tannehill. But yeah, not much analysis use on its own. My argument that he will be a good QB is based on intangibles and skills, buoyed by good stats. He'll need grooming, but we're in the QB market and can let him sit for a year or so. Right situation for him.
