Dude, you're all over the place. You say you've seen Beane's quote where he states, very directly, that Allen's going to be the 3rd QB in the depth/rep "through the first preseason game, and then we’ll adjust from there and decide, Are we going to keep it the same? Are we going to give him more reps? Or are we going to give him less? Everything is earned here." I mean that's Beane very directly saying that, in fact, Allen's 1st preseason performance matters and if he plays really well in that game they might give him more significant reps than previously. He says absolutely nothing about Peterman or McCarron there. I think you overestimate your ability to distinguish what is said from what is meant.

No, not according to, ya know... our GM... https://torontosun.com/sports/football/nfl/bills-gm-first-preseason-game-could-be-pivotal-for-rookie-qb-josh-allen "I think you give everybody the fair amount of reps now. Right now we’re going with Nathan and A.J. with the majority of the ones and twos, but giving Josh at least a period a day – at least. And we’ll do that through the first preseason game, and then we’ll adjust from there and decide, Are we going to keep it the same? Are we going to give him more reps? Or are we going to give him less? Everything is earned here. And again, right or wrong, we’re not going to say that by this day we have to have a starter, or by this day we’ll know if Josh is going to be the No. 1, the No. 2 or the No. 3. We’re just going to let these guys compete."

Who the hell is eating humble pie? Anyone like the OP who thought Peterman would start? It will be McCarron or Allen. Isn't this obvious to everyone, yet? I still think Allen will start right away, but McCarron might, which I'm fine with. Peterman won't. Soooooo.... you actually think Peterman still has a better chance of starting than Allen?
-
I'll be fine with McCarron starting, so long as it's not Picked-off-again Peterman. I agree Nate's chance of starting is less than 10%. Maybe I'm a little swayed to Allen at 50% and McCarron between 40-45%, but I really think the fact that McCarron hasn't truly separated himself from the other 2 with his play--yes, I realize McCarron got his 2nd straight day of 1st team reps today, but I just think everyone knows he's the guy who starts preseason game #1, so they're getting him ready. But Beane already said Allen's chances of playing in 2018 will largely hinge on what he does for that 1st preseason game. So, that game next week is yuuuuuuuge!!!!

Joe B: 7 observations from 2018 Buffalo Bills training camp - Day 6 1) Sack frenzy in team drills ...I've noticed a tendency -- especially with A.J. McCarron -- for the quarterbacks to hold on to the ball too long in the pocket. While it's good that they're trying to see if something opens up down the field, it's also not so good because it means their internal clock is not where it needs to be to release the ball before the play is dead. 2) The context behind the QB stats- Following the practice with all the team drills, I tallied up all of the quarterback "statistics." In all of the extended work during 11-on-11s, the statistical results were unkind to the eye test. A.J. McCarron, by my count, completed 13-of-20 passes, had one interception, was sacked five times and had his pass dropped by the receiver three times. For Nathan Peterman, he went 13-of-19, took three sacks, and had one pass dropped by an intended target. As for rookie Josh Allen, he completed just 9-of-20 passes, was also sacked three times, and had three of his catchable passes dropped... With Allen, his 9-of-20 does not pass the eye test, but he threw the prettiest two passes of the day -- both hitting his target correctly in stride for a significant gain. Allen was pushing the ball down the field farther than either McCarron or Peterman, which could also influence the statistics a bit. There were a total of six dropped passes, and those were by Charles Clay (twice), Robert Foster, Taiwan Jones, Ray-Ray McCloud, and Malachi Dupre -- all of which should have been caught without more difficulty than a usual catch in the NFL. 3) A whimpering two-minute drill- To throw one more thing at the team, head coach Sean McDermott decided to end the practice with one set of a two-minute drill for all three units. It went quite poorly for the offense outside of two plays... As for Allen, he salvaged the two-minute drill on his first play with an incredible throw down the left sideline to Cam Phillips that hit a tight window between two defenders -- a total zone-busting throw, and it went for 26 yards. Allen's next two plays were both throwaways when he saw he didn't have anyone, but on 3rd-and-10, he had Ray-Ray McCloud on a slant pattern that he made in stride, but the rookie dropped it over the middle of the field. The field goal unit came out, and Stephen Hauschka nailed a 52-yard field goal. If it weren't for that one play by Allen, the two-minute drill would have been a complete failure by the offense.

DR Goes Camping (Practice #6 Report)

Allen already a factor in QB race ?

And yet, 3 of the last 5 practices have gone to Allen in this QB race. And lest we forget, McDermott said coming into TC that Allen would primarily be 3rd on the depth chart, but Allen seemed to force his hand quickly. Direct from the Buffalo Bills website: Allen will regularly rotate in with the ones going forward. Head coach Sean McDermott confirmed Saturday morning that the rotation with the starting unit on offense will include all three quarterbacks for the foreseeable future. Hey... remember how some posters thought there was a less than 10% chance of Allen winning this??? -

And my guess is Allen is gonna get the most 1st team reps tomorrow based on McDermott's statement that they're going to start rotating reps. Allen is next in the rotation. If that happens, this rep count changes quickly. -
Allen already a factor in QB race ?

Let's be honest here... it's all critical. Allen is the only 1 of the QBs who has trended upwards throughout OTAs and Minicamp and Training Camp pretty much the entire way. Remember after OTAs how everyone was saying Minicamp was critical? I actually think at this point McDermott is looking harder for reasons NOT to start Allen than reasons TO start him. Seriously??? A guy who's played in 5 regular season games and thrown less than 200 career passes??? You're shocked easily. -

Pssssst.... Day 1 of Training Camp... also from Joe B: https://www.wkbw.com/sports/bills/joe-b-7-observations-from-2018-buffalo-bills-training-camp-day-1 1) Josh Allen fights the nerves for an up-and-down day- Those fans that came to the first day of training camp for the Bills that were hoping for Josh Allen to blow everybody away throughout the entire practice didn't exactly get that. What they did get was a balanced combination of throws that drew some "oohs" and "aahs," along with others that made fans emit something that sounds like, "ugh." Allen, as the Bills intended, took the first day of camp while working almost exclusively with the third-team offense -- except when the Bills went into offensive walkthroughs, which is when he made his first-team reps. However, it is quite hard to ignore the simple fact that as compared to Nathan Peterman and A.J. McCarron, it isn't even close as to who has the most natural talent on the field of the quarterbacks. Allen is a gifted thrower when he's on target, and he showed it off on two team drill reps early in practice -- both of which to Robert Foster. The first, he floated one in right over the shoulder that hit the receiver perfectly in stride, showing a true touch in his first day. On the other fantastic throw, he hit Foster on a flag pattern to the right sideline -- which is a real strength for him. However, the end of practice didn't go so well for Allen. It was something that was a bit of a bugaboo for him during college, but on two short throws -- one rolling right and right in front of him, and the other a throw to the flat -- Allen airmailed it both times. On the last play of the practice, the Bills called Allen down on a would-be sack. So, again, some good and some bad -- without any interceptions -- but he's got to go through some rookie growing pains. The good news for the Bills is that he was the best quarterback on the field, for what it's worth on Day One. Just face it, the absurdity of your hyperbolic skepticism has been debunked. 4 days of Training Camp and Allen has been identified by one or more Bills beat reporters as the best QB of practice 2 times already. Yep, Allen only has a 5-10% (remember how it started as just 5 and you added the 10 later as though it was what you always said? ) chance of being the day 1 starter... -
Did he throw a 50 yard pass even on the play you're citing? Direct quote from the same article you're quoting: Peterman shows off the arm Josh Allen gets all the big headlines when it comes to the deep ball, but Peterman showed he can sling it when he needs to get downfield. Peterman found Cam Phillips on a rollout bomb in the end zone during 11-on-11 that brought the crowd to life at St. John Fisher. Where does it say there that he completed a 50 yard pass or, much less, threw a ball that travelled 50 yards in the air? Are you living in la la land?

Too many things here you say "are" that, at worst, "might be." I would argue that Incognito and Wood were clearly on the downside of their careers and would have been gone in another year or 2 anyway. It's well documented that we have reason to think Groy might be, at worst, a lateral move from Wood. Bodine has plenty of NFL experience. Miller already looks improved. Dawkins showed promise in year 1 and should improve. Mills was better last year than the year before. If WRs are shaky this year, it's better than the absolute crap we had last year. We're already better simply with a healthy Benjamin and the experience of Kerley. QB... well, everyone knows what I thought about Taylor, but you're also neglecting to mention on yuuuuuuge difference from last year, no matter who starts at QB... Dennison vs Dabol Can't get worse than Dennison, and OC and offensive scheme matters as much as offensive talent... just ask the Patriots.

Allen already a factor in QB race ?
transplantbillsfan replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So how about instead of one respected writer/analyst that says Allen had the best day on, say, five days... how about 5 respected writers/analysts who say Allen had the best day on a day they all agree on First sentence of the article in the OP: "Saturday was not only Josh Allen’s best day of training camp so far, but he was arguably the best quarterback on the field for the Bills." -

Weaseling? I've noticed that when you lose an argument you get a little bitter. Once again, who "won" all the days so far by the standards of whatever writers you find acceptable? I read up enough on these enough to know that writers don't generally rank QBs on a practice by practice basis, so what you're asking for is, in itself, a weasly request because there's no "running tab" that's consistently kept and all you can do to get an idea is read what different writers say and find the meat in the middle. But here are 2 more who said the same thing as Joe B about day 3... did you even look before asking?
