  1. Boy... you had to respond to a clearly hyperbolic word I used rather than just saying "good point," without even having to concede your own point? You go ahead and keep fearing the unknown. I'd rather embrace it
  2. Do you think the only position McDermott is assessing is QB? There seems to be this universal belief that our OL is going to suck and that belief is one of the main driving forces behind the reasoning as to why we shouldn't start Allen and I find it odd and a little humorous. I've said many times if our OL is atrocious, Allen shouldn't start. However, I've also said many times I think our OL is going to be a helluva lot better than expected. McDermott is going to have a level of comfort he needs with every player at every position in order to start him. Do you think McDermott and Beane were just like, "oh well, we aren't happy with our OL, but we'll just deal with them sucking for the time-being" OR Could it be that McDermott and Beane--reliant on scouting within the team, throughout the NFL, and in college--are actually very happy with the OL roster they've assembled? Unknown is not always bad... Actually, more like unknown to fans is probably not unknown to coaches and GMs. You're responding to me, and no he doesn't have enough of an arm to make all the throws... at least he didn't in 2017. See almost any throw to the sidelines last year. Here's one:
  3. It was over a week dead and you bumped it?!
  4. You're awfully defensive and vitriolic (not to mention nonsensical) responding to a post that contained none of that. Did I strike a nerve because I nailed it and you were one of those posters? If you weren't see blinded with old man's rage you might notice that I don't think this is the mindset of all the Peterman homers and that I don't even think there are many of them. See the first 4 words of your post, repeat them back to yourself, then take some Prozac, or smoke a joint, or do whatever you need to do to chill the hell out.
  5. Soooo... if Allen looks ready in Training Camp and Preseason, are you saying wait til you really know he's ready??? How do you determine it, then?
  6. I think it varies, but one faction of the Peterman "homers" (and honestly I don't think there are more than a few off the deep end, but I mean those holding off just that much longer from saying he shouldn't start) I think rolls over from some who were avidly anti-Tyrod and defended Peterman in the Chargers game with comments like "but Boca said 'he didn't even block me!' so clearly the OL just stopped playing!" These are people who saw Peterman as a preseason hero last year and wanted him to take the reins from Taylor last year and might still be a little bitter and are unable to accept what is a fairly objective and basic observation of Peterman based on his play: Noodle arm + Hero ball = Terrible starting QB Hence... Peterman = Terrible starting QB
  7. I think at this point there's a strong, non-homer argument to be made that Allen has a greater percentage chance of winning the starting QB job just based on 3 things: 1) Talent 2) Performance in a Bills uniform in 2018 3) Work Ethic 4) Talent 5) Teammate observation and Influence 6) Talent 7) Allocated money among our QBs
  8. Dude, you're all over the place. You say you've seen Beane's quote where he states, very directly, that Allen's going to be the 3rd QB in the depth/rep "through the first preseason game, and then we’ll adjust from there and decide, Are we going to keep it the same? Are we going to give him more reps? Or are we going to give him less? Everything is earned here." I mean that's Beane very directly saying that, in fact, Allen's 1st preseason performance matters and if he plays really well in that game they might give him more significant reps than previously. He says absolutely nothing about Peterman or McCarron there. I think you overestimate your ability to distinguish what is said from what is meant.
  9. Really? I was thinking the game would be a little closer given that we're on the road and that we'd only win by maybe a FG, but definitely one score. But I'll take a blowout victory
  10. Always been fine with McCarron if he wins the job, I just think (and prefer) Allen will end up winning it because he'll just progress and outshine the other 2 guys.
  11. No, not according to, ya know... our GM... https://torontosun.com/sports/football/nfl/bills-gm-first-preseason-game-could-be-pivotal-for-rookie-qb-josh-allen "I think you give everybody the fair amount of reps now. Right now we’re going with Nathan and A.J. with the majority of the ones and twos, but giving Josh at least a period a day – at least. And we’ll do that through the first preseason game, and then we’ll adjust from there and decide, Are we going to keep it the same? Are we going to give him more reps? Or are we going to give him less? Everything is earned here. And again, right or wrong, we’re not going to say that by this day we have to have a starter, or by this day we’ll know if Josh is going to be the No. 1, the No. 2 or the No. 3. We’re just going to let these guys compete."
  12. I thought Gunner was English, not Irish... doesn't that make him more of a Newcastle guy? Not that it matters much, but I like Guinness... I like Newcastle... I like Heineken... I like Sierra Nevada... I like Kirin Ichiban. Nothing wrong with being a worldwide beer lover Agreed
  13. Who the hell is eating humble pie? Anyone like the OP who thought Peterman would start? It will be McCarron or Allen. Isn't this obvious to everyone, yet? I still think Allen will start right away, but McCarron might, which I'm fine with. Peterman won't. Soooooo.... you actually think Peterman still has a better chance of starting than Allen?
  14. I'll be fine with McCarron starting, so long as it's not Picked-off-again Peterman. I agree Nate's chance of starting is less than 10%. Maybe I'm a little swayed to Allen at 50% and McCarron between 40-45%, but I really think the fact that McCarron hasn't truly separated himself from the other 2 with his play--yes, I realize McCarron got his 2nd straight day of 1st team reps today, but I just think everyone knows he's the guy who starts preseason game #1, so they're getting him ready. But Beane already said Allen's chances of playing in 2018 will largely hinge on what he does for that 1st preseason game. So, that game next week is yuuuuuuuge!!!!
  15. Joe B: 7 observations from 2018 Buffalo Bills training camp - Day 6 1) Sack frenzy in team drills ...I've noticed a tendency -- especially with A.J. McCarron -- for the quarterbacks to hold on to the ball too long in the pocket. While it's good that they're trying to see if something opens up down the field, it's also not so good because it means their internal clock is not where it needs to be to release the ball before the play is dead. 2) The context behind the QB stats- Following the practice with all the team drills, I tallied up all of the quarterback "statistics." In all of the extended work during 11-on-11s, the statistical results were unkind to the eye test. A.J. McCarron, by my count, completed 13-of-20 passes, had one interception, was sacked five times and had his pass dropped by the receiver three times. For Nathan Peterman, he went 13-of-19, took three sacks, and had one pass dropped by an intended target. As for rookie Josh Allen, he completed just 9-of-20 passes, was also sacked three times, and had three of his catchable passes dropped... With Allen, his 9-of-20 does not pass the eye test, but he threw the prettiest two passes of the day -- both hitting his target correctly in stride for a significant gain. Allen was pushing the ball down the field farther than either McCarron or Peterman, which could also influence the statistics a bit. There were a total of six dropped passes, and those were by Charles Clay (twice), Robert Foster, Taiwan Jones, Ray-Ray McCloud, and Malachi Dupre -- all of which should have been caught without more difficulty than a usual catch in the NFL. 3) A whimpering two-minute drill- To throw one more thing at the team, head coach Sean McDermott decided to end the practice with one set of a two-minute drill for all three units. It went quite poorly for the offense outside of two plays... As for Allen, he salvaged the two-minute drill on his first play with an incredible throw down the left sideline to Cam Phillips that hit a tight window between two defenders -- a total zone-busting throw, and it went for 26 yards. Allen's next two plays were both throwaways when he saw he didn't have anyone, but on 3rd-and-10, he had Ray-Ray McCloud on a slant pattern that he made in stride, but the rookie dropped it over the middle of the field. The field goal unit came out, and Stephen Hauschka nailed a 52-yard field goal. If it weren't for that one play by Allen, the two-minute drill would have been a complete failure by the offense.
  16. It's just a statement of the inevitable. Peterman will shoot himself in the foot and/or McCarron and/or Allen will be significantly better than Peterman. Just call me soothsayer
  17. It's between McCarron and Allen for the starting QB job. This thread has reached such bizarre lows.
  18. Why are people still talking as though Shady likely won't play week 1? Any time anyone in the national media says that it makes me think they don't know what they're talking about.
  19. And yet, 3 of the last 5 practices have gone to Allen in this QB race. And lest we forget, McDermott said coming into TC that Allen would primarily be 3rd on the depth chart, but Allen seemed to force his hand quickly. Direct from the Buffalo Bills website: Allen will regularly rotate in with the ones going forward. Head coach Sean McDermott confirmed Saturday morning that the rotation with the starting unit on offense will include all three quarterbacks for the foreseeable future. Hey... remember how some posters thought there was a less than 10% chance of Allen winning this???
  20. You gonna tell us to sand the floor next?
  21. And my guess is Allen is gonna get the most 1st team reps tomorrow based on McDermott's statement that they're going to start rotating reps. Allen is next in the rotation. If that happens, this rep count changes quickly.
  22. Let's be honest here... it's all critical. Allen is the only 1 of the QBs who has trended upwards throughout OTAs and Minicamp and Training Camp pretty much the entire way. Remember after OTAs how everyone was saying Minicamp was critical? I actually think at this point McDermott is looking harder for reasons NOT to start Allen than reasons TO start him. Seriously??? A guy who's played in 5 regular season games and thrown less than 200 career passes??? You're shocked easily.
