What is better, no guns, or more guns?

Well, a class is required to get licensed, so if I do it, I would be taking a class. -
What is better, no guns, or more guns?
Buffalo_Gal replied to Security's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I mentioned to hubby (and a few friends) this past weekend that the gun-grabbers make me want to get a pistol license, only problem is I'd actually have to shoot a gun. Hubby assured me I do not have to shoot a gun in order to get, or keep, a pistol permit license in NYS. And then he immediately said to me we can go to the shooting range together. Not sure what I am going to do, but if these gun-grabbers are beginning to turn someone like me - who truly dislikes the thought of firearms, and has never wanted to possess or shoot anything - into someone who is considering getting a license, what is it doing to those who are on the cusp? This is one of my two biggest lefty leftovers... I hate guns. Yes, we have them in the house. Hubby is licensed in a lot of states, and is also a big hunter. Me? I don't say too much as that is his right under the Constitution, and it is something he strongly believes in. But for myself it has never been a consideration. Until the past year. -

I'm not sure how long that thread can stay in OTW. It went down a political rabbit hole several pages back. -

oh don't be silly! The MSM simply reports the news, they don't create or editorialize it. /super sarc tag -

What makes these tragic shootings worse than a weekend in Chicago or Baltimore? -

@Pilsner to link you open the comment box. At the top you see the image (with the arrow). Click that A box will pop open that you fill in. If you just drop the link, it will look like what @B-Man linked above. If you fill in words it will look like this. (you can also write words, then go back and highlight them and click that link-symbol to insert your link and make it clickable). I hope that helps! -
Democratic 2020 Presidential Primary Thread
Buffalo_Gal replied to snafu's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
If this HuffPo article is accurate, this guy is all over the place. Labor Puts Candidates On Notice: 'Let's Be Honest About The Democratic Party's Record' In a closed meeting, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka told the campaigns that Democrats shouldn't expect union support if they don't change their ways. </snip> Richard Trumka told attendees that while President Donald Trump is enacting bad policies for workers, Democratic leaders need to reckon with their own role in creating an unfair economy. He said “both parties” are to blame for a system that caters to the rich. </snip> Trumka went on, “More often than not, the Republican Party is bad for workers. This president is bad for workers. But let’s be honest about the Democratic Party’s record.” He singled out the North American Free Trade Agreement and the Trans-Pacific Partnership as Democrat-backed trade deals that were tilted against the working class. </snip> “It’s time to do better,” Trumka said. “I believe you can. I believe you will. And working people are hungry for it. But you can’t offer campaign rhetoric or count on workers’ votes simply because you have a ‘D’ next to your name.” </snip> -
How horrible. Poor little boy, and poor parents. I hope he makes a full a complete recovery.

Our last dog had a LOT of cat-like tendencies. According to him, were there to serve him. He fought me for 10 years over who was alpha (he lost, but he never gave up!) Hubby? Pfffffft That dog was his baby and he had Hubby wrapped around his little paw.

We had one dog and my husband always regretted not getting a second dog to keep him company. My husband wants another dog next year (we need time to grieve + we have travel plans), and will be looking for a bonded pair. If we cannot get that - I never want another pure bred, but hubby needs a dog (s) with hair, not fur - we will have the one dog for a year, and try and and introduce a second dog at a later date. I think owning two dogs at the same time is in my future, like it or not.

Some interesting stuff about job creation during the Obama "recovery" years. From Alen Krueger (in 2016) chair of the Obama White House Council of Economic Adviser: (2011-2013) “We find that 94% of net job growth in the past decade was in the alternative work category,” said Krueger. “And over 60% was due to the [the rise] of independent contractors, freelancers and contract company workers.” In other words, nearly all of the 10 million jobs created between 2005 and 2015 were not traditional nine-to-five employment </snip> Link to "non traditional jobs paper" I find that interesting. Apparently, not all jobs are created equal. (haha!) Do FT jobs and PT jobs count equally for unemployment numbers? And, does anyone track a PT position (or two) being accepted in place of that FT position?

So in 2008, 2009, 2010, etc how many jobs were lost that finally came back in 2012, 2013? IOW how long until the base number of jobs came back to 2007 (I am just guessing 2007 was the high point, I do not know) levels? Are there really more people employed now than ever before? Were there more people employed in 2015 than now? I guess what I am looking for is if you crash, until you get back to where you were, you haven't gained anything regardless of how great the new jobs numbers are subsequent to that crash. And if smaller numbers are gaining on "highest ever" than that is a more difficult achievement than gaining on negative numbers (no where to go but up). Oh, and another question - how do they count self-employed people? So, let's say that the economy was in the toilet in 2009 and 1M jobs were lost, but 500K of those people went on to be self-employed at a living wage. Are those new jobs created? Counted as only 500K jobs lost? Or do they go into the ether?

I wanna find the Anderson Cooper interview she yesterday. Now she is "controversial" because she is against anti-depressants. I don't agree with her, I am just O.o at the labeling... she's said some batshit crazy things to date, but this is what gets her views labeled controversial? -

I would hope all the opposition (of both parties) has everything downloaded and ready to roll out in negative ads (assuming there is something negative to be had). That still does not make the information readily available to the average schlepp.
