  1. Supposedly, that was a member of the sex crimes unit from the NYPD (the Weiner laptop people). Hindsight, and Antony Weiner's political connections, is making a member of the NYPD being down there a bit more interesting. (Maybe they were just there to make sure the FBI didn't flush anything?)
  2. ? ? Wine. ? ?
  3. FTC Chief Says He’s Willing to Break Up Big Tech Companies * Chairman Simons says FTC can unwind approved deals over harm * FTC is investigating Facebook acquisitions in antitrust probe The head of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission said he’s prepared to break up major technology platforms if necessary by undoing their past mergers as his agency investigates whether companies including Facebook Inc. are harming competition. </snip> “If you have to, you do it,” Simons said about breaking up tech companies. “It’s not ideal because it’s very messy. But if you have to you have to.” </snip>
  4. I like to write in cursive. It is amazing to me how sloppy my handwriting has gotten over the years. I write very quickly, so that probably has something to do with it.
  5. President Trump is having a fine time kicking Cuomo while he is down today (and getting in a lot of shots at CNN in as whole, too), but then he asks this question: Now, the answer could be "human decency", "that's not who we are", but the real response is that the Rs have not had a fighter for a long, long time. The #NeverTrumpers and "elites" like to stay above the fray, and are unwilling to get down in the mud. And politics is a dirty business. Trump gets a LOT of grief for being a fighter, but exactly who wants a commander-in-chief that is a wimp?
  6. Looks like Politico is covering... Trial of former Obama White House counsel Greg Craig delayed over jury issue The trial of former Obama White House counsel Greg Craig on a criminal false-statement charge hit a last-minute snag Tuesday after prosecutors and the defense raised belated concerns about the jury selection process. Opening statements in the case — which was investigated by former special counsel Robert Mueller’s office — were expected Tuesday morning, but U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson shocked many in the courtroom by announcing that limits she placed on public access to jury selection Monday may have violated Craig’s constitutional right to a public trial. </snip>
  7. I feel terrible for the people of Honk Kong, but the US isn't going to save them. They are well and truly hosed.
  8. Well, at least he wasn't swearing like a drunken sailor in front of his kids.
  9. The video has more information (at the link) including a snip from the Miami Herald reporter. His brother is who they called to identify the body. The "shrieking" was from those who found him (nice sensational click-bait headline, CBS - well, they got me to click. ? ) Shrieking heard from Jeffrey Epstein's jail cell the morning he died On the morning of Jeffrey Epstein's death there was shouting and shrieking from his jail cell, a source familiar with the situation told CBS News. Corrections officers attempted to revive him while saying "breathe, Epstein, breathe." Congress is the latest to start investigating Epstein's apparent suicide over the weekend, with new reports raising questions about the federal jail where he was being held. One of Epstein's guards at the Metropolitan Correctional Center on the night he died was reportedly not a regular corrections officer. On Monday, Attorney General William Barr criticized the detention center where the disgraced financier was held. "We will get to the bottom of what happened and there will be accountability," Barr said. "I was appalled and frankly angry to learn of the MCC's failure to adequately secure this prisoner." </snip>
  10. My husband has done that. When the prices get high and it isn't worth my being bored, he will either find someone else to go with, or buy himself a very nice seat (or a seat + meet and greet).
  11. With Epstein dead, unless Maxwell can (will) corroborate, the names might as well be Yogi Bear and Boo Boo. The private flight logs could list any name (fake names), including some very prominent people's names that never set foot on his plane. The flight log names could all be completely accurate, too. And that is why his death is so convenient for so many powerful people.
  12. More on the meat packing round-up (heh): Arrested in Mississippi Had a Criminal Record Acting DHS Secretary Kevin McAleenan told NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday that out of the 680 individuals arrested during raids on food processing plants throughout Mississippi last week, 200 of them had a criminal record. “So again, this is a criminal investigation of the employers who are exploiting an undocumented workforce and skirting our laws. Now, when you do an operation at a worksite, you can't ignore people that are there without the proper permission to be in the United States. You don't know who they are. Over 200 of these individuals had a criminal record in the U.S.,” he said. </snip>
  13. NY Post: Jeffrey Epstein Used Bedsheet to Hang Himself Accused sex child trafficker Jeffrey Epstein was discovered Saturday inside his New York City prison cell with a bedsheet wrapped around his neck that was tied to his bunk bed. “The convicted pedophile, who was 6 feet tall, apparently killed himself by kneeling toward the floor and strangling himself with the makeshift noose, a law enforcement source said Monday,” according to the New York Post. Law enforcement received a call at 6:39 a.m. local time that Epstein was in cardiac arrest and was later pronounced dead at NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital. </snip>
  14. Good luck! And text? Don't young people call to make date plans these days?
  15. Go to the Jello museum! Well, you said Leroy. I think Letchworth, as @ExiledInIllinois suggested, is a good idea. It is about half an hour away. Balloons over Letchworth might be fun. A nice hike, early dinner/ late lunch at the Glen Iris Inn. You could make a day of it. ?
  16. I bring my iPad. And earplugs. I am reading a book on my iPad while hubby is enjoying the show. Works out well for both of us. ? note: I groan when we go to the opera as I have to behave like an adult and pay attention (unless I fall asleep). And I like the opera a lot more than concerts and musicals.
  17. "Believe it or not, it was political espionage conducted against Hillary Clinton." Yeah that would be a "not" for me.
  18. Man Who Slammed Trump for ‘Racist’ Immigration Policies Killed by Illegal Immigrant A man who criticized President Donald Trump’s immigration policies in the name of progressive Christianity was killed last week by an undocumented immigrant who avoided deportation by hiding in a local “sanctuary church.” Sean Buchanan, a father of five from Colorado Springs, was driving his motorcycle on Highway 83 when Miguel Ramirez Valiente swerved into his lane and killed him. The immigrant was charged with reckless driving with a revoked license. Ramirez Valiente received national media coverage in January when he sought sanctuary in All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church in Buchanan’s hometown. Speaking from the pulpit, he told assembled reporters that he had fled gang violence in El Salvador in 2005. He said he wanted to stay in the United States to care for his wife and three children even though his asylum application was denied. In a sympathetic report at the time, CNN said Ramirez Valiente was one of about 50 immigrants who had tried to avoid U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in a church. However, when he killed Buchanan, Ramirez Valiente was driving with a suspended license thanks to a 2018 DUI. He was also arrested for reckless endangerment in 2011 and domestic violence in 2016. A district attorney dismissed both charges. </snip>
  19. You are saying a President could not be convicted of a crime after s/he left office? I think what you responding to is a President can be removed from office via impeachment, but that is a political process, not a criminal process. If, after leaving office (or while in office) a President commits a criminal offense (say, murder, rape, car-jacking (yeah, yeah, but I couldn't come up with another one)) s/he could be arrested, tried, and convicted of a crime. There is nothing that stands in the way of that (unless as an attorney you know of a secret law I do not?).
