Elijah Moore Visiting the Bills today (Update: Signed!)
Doc Brown replied to bills742's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't even know where Royals fits in with Brown, Worthy, Rice, and Juju on the roster. Maybe battling it out with Watson for that #5 role? Rather throw darts at D-line and CB's given where this team is. -
Is there an NFL team with a weaker WR group than the Bills?
Doc Brown replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
No. No. This is a specific WR thread. No TE's allowed. Two overrated day two rookies, Myers, and Tucker are terrifying though. -
Wide Receiver Train Full Speed Ahead- CHOO CHOO!
Doc Brown replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
I gladly would've given him the contract the Steelers gave him because Allen is in his prime and doesn't have a #1 WR that scares a defense. I'm not the idiot that gave Hoecht, Palmer, and Ogunjobi what would've equated to what we pry would've paid Metcalf. -

If we didn't trade our 2005 first rounder to draft Losman in 2004 we pry would've drafted Rodgers in 2005 at pick #20. Flippin Donahoe. -

I get it now. Lol. Nobody is thinking that the Steelers would trade Metcalf after just trading for Metcalf. We're wondering whether Beane screwed up in not outbidding the Steelers to get Metcalf. I absolutely think he did. -

We don't but throw in a 4th or 5th round pick and the Bills could've easily had Metcalf. Beane decided not to do that and if we don't win the Super Bowl with Allen it's one missed chance that I'll point to as as one of the main reasons why. Based off this you put a tomato in a fruit salad thinking it was a vegetable. -

I mean he was the head coach of the Jets so that part makes sense. -

In that final mock draft we did I traded up for him in the 1st as the Steelers. LOL. To be fair, I didn't get to interview him. -

Deion was giving interviews back in January where he said there were a couple of teams he wouldn't allow his kid to play for. He tried to shove the toothpaste back into the tube recently but the damage was already done. Shedeur's personality was like his dad but his dad didn't play QB. I thought he'd fall. Not to the 5th round but I thought end of the 2nd was possible. -

Jeff Ulbrich's kid's statement. Good lord. They're acting like they accidentally killed his dog or something. -

It would've been funnier if he did it pretending he was the Giants right before pick #3. There's enough sympathy for Sanders right now that I don't feel bad typing that. He'll be fine. -

Forgot about the Giants and the Browns. We're pry in that 20 to 25 range. Beane's always said that it starts up front so at least he consistently drafts that way for the most part. I always have my doubts about 4th round or later WR burners because they rarely work out. Once Golden was gone in the first I wanted nothing to do with WR the rest of the draft and just focus on defense. I would've preferred bringing Quinton Morris back than taking a TE3 instead of say a S or LB in the 5th round. Beane screwed the pooch by not trading for Metcalf so mentally I just assumed at that point we were going to run it back with what we had once the Steelers traded for him. Maybe I should be more upset. Lol. -

Absolutely. That's why I said off the top of my head. Lol. -
Bills 5th Round Pick (#2) : Jackson Hawes - TE - Georgia Tech
Doc Brown replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
I completely understand that and I just found it humorous that one of our worst trades in our history was to Andy Reid. I didn't want the Bills to draft Worthy. I said leading up to the draft that if BTJ was within striking distance Beane should pull the trigger to get him. My 2nd choice was Mitchell. I was glad he moved back a couple of spots to get a 3rd round pick back though. -
Shedur Sanders Make To Round 5? (Poll) - UPDATED x 3
Doc Brown replied to boyst's topic in The Stadium Wall
He should. He made the draft more about himself with the continuous Sanders rants and highlighted the QB's that slipped who he went to bat for that payed off. He did so not having access to any of the behind the scenes interviews with Sanders that pry turned some QB needy teams off. I also think he's good friends with Deion so it only amplified his anger. With how QB starved teams are there's no way Sanders makes it past the early half of the 2nd round if there weren't character concerns. Jobs are on the line with these GM's and head coaches. I don't know if he considered any of that or he wanted to put on a show so people started talking about him again. -
Bills 6th Round Pick (#1) : Dorian Strong - CB - VA Tech
Doc Brown replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
None of those are a true vertical threat though like DK Metcalf would've been. A 6'4 inch 225 lbs. specimen who ran a 4.33 would've been well worth it even if it meant drafting one DT instead of two. Any chance you can get what will pry go from a great to elite player like Diggs did with upgrading QB's to Allen. You do it. That goes for any of the premium positions on either side of the ball imo. Same goes for last year's draft with us having the ammunition to trade for the last true player that could win at all levels of the field in Brian Thomas Jr.. I also would've preferred Mitchell over Coleman for that same reason. I didn't listen to any of the press conferences really since locker clean out day so I'll take your word for it. I saw what the problem was after the Chiefs game and I didn't need McDermott and Beane trying to minimize how awful our defense was. I also have never put stock in top 30 visits because I never know if it's a smoke screen or not. Although maybe I should after this draft. I didn't know they said it publicly that we needed a vertical field stretcher. I would've been way more pissed if they drafted a Troy Franklin/Xavier Lagette type player over a defensive lineman or CB in the 3rd to 5th round. At least with those WR visits the glass half full side of me shows me the Bills brass recognized the one missing element in our WR core and might somehow address it over the next couple of months. -

I don't really disagree with anything you say here but our offense should've never been in that spot both games to being with. I think the difference is you think there was a WR prospect in this draft past the second round that could've made a difference as far as stressing defenses vertically. I didn't. The real missed opportunity was Beane not trading for Metcalf when it would've only cost us pry a 2nd and a 5th? After that my thought was fix the damn defense in the draft and free agency. -

Chargers, Patriots, Panthers, Cowboys, Raiders, Jets, Titans, Seahawks, and maybe 49ers depending on Aiyuk's recovery. That's off the top of my head. Edited: Forgot about the Browns and Giants.- 650 replies

Bills 6th Round Pick (#1) : Dorian Strong - CB - VA Tech
Doc Brown replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
I did. You said the offensive numbers were inflated because we played bad defenses. I countered showing that they put up 27+ points in all three playoff games against top 10 defenses. Nobody after the Chiefs game said man our lack of a vertical threat at WR cost us our first Super Bowl appearance in 31 years. It was we can't get to the passer and our secondary minus Benford was absolutely dreadful. I just get sick of hearing over the years that McDermott's defense let us down again in the playoffs and out of the other side of their mouth say man Josh needs more help. Again, I was pounding the table for DK Metcalf because he was the only realistic option that could've made this offense scary as hell. Once that ship sailed I was fully prepared to accept the fact that we were going to just run it back on offense and hope we go heavy in free agency and the draft attacking our defensive deficiencies. This was the first off-season I've seen them attack their defensive problems aggressively as they did. Would I have liked them to take a day three swing at a WR like Marquez Stevenson or what the Chiefs did with that Royal kid this year to maybe stress the defense a little more vertically. Sure. Not at the expense of fixing this defense though. Complementary football. I'll complement the offense in that game and that's it. -

Playoffs: Broncos defense ranked - 3rd in points allowed. 7th in Yards allowed. Put up 31 points. Ravens defense ranked - 9th in points allowed. 10th in yards allowed. Put up 27 points. Chiefs defense ranked - 4th in points allowed. 9th in yards allowed. Put up 29 points. All I've heard the last five years is how the defense failed Josh in the playoffs which is true. We invest a lot of resources into the defensive side of the ball this off-season and now some fans are complaining we're not helping Josh enough on offense. Damned if you do. Damned if you don't. -

I agree. I just think there wasn't a WR good enough to draft after the first round and a half. Metcalf would've really moved the needle. Still ticks me off. -

Good - addressed our two glaring weaknesses in the playoffs (D-line and CB) Bad - me having to listen to Bills fans freak out that we don't have a vertical threat WR until September.- 143 replies
