Your thoughts on the Bills offseason so far
Doc Brown replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
I disagree about last year as we got worse after free agency losing Morse and Floyd without replacing them. There were a lot of dire predictions on here and the national media that we'd be lucky to get a Wild Card spot with one of the hardest schedules in the league. We went 13-3 with Allen as the starter and beat the two #1 seeds in each conference. There will be some regression in the turnover department but Brady's offense will still be more turnover adverse than previous coordinators. Our defense still will create turnovers with all those peanut punches they do as if it's drilled into their heads. As for health, last year was a mixed bag. We had a lot of wrist injuries specifically at WR and it seemed like our defense was never at full strength until the playoffs. Even then Benford gets concussed twice and the Chiefs took advantage of it. We won't be as lucky on the o-line with injuries but I won't estimate Kromer's ability to have our backups ready to go more than most teams backups. This whole thread is futile though as you really can't judge an off-season until late August and that's just on paper. -
Great. They'll build a soft football team. Only three teams who've played their home games in a dome have won the Super Bowl. The Rams twice, the Colts, and the Saints. So that's 4 of 59 Super Bowl winners. This graph is a few years old so it doesn't account for the Chiefs, Eagles, and 49ers. The teams that play outdoors in the cold are overly represented when it comes to Super Bowl appearances while teams that play in enclosed stadiums are underrepresented. Teams that play with average temperatures below 40 degrees are the most successful. I'm somewhat of a hypocrite though because I watch all these snow games by a fireplace in my living room.

We got within three points of a Super Bowl last year so "stay the same" before the draft is acceptable. I thought locking up Rousseau at $20m was a steal. We got a little worse on defense losing Douglas. He wasn't great last year but he's still better than Dane Jackson. Bosa if he stays healthy would cancel the loss of Douglas I guess. Palmer is an upgrade over Cooper. Special teams coach is a huge upgrade. If we traded for Metcalf it would've been a home run free agency period. -
I was being sarcastic.

Pry four of the nine (Saints, Bucs, Patriots, Jets or Dolphins) will be 1:00 games if I were to guess.
-
We'll pry see a record 4:25pm games which interrupts my 5:00 nap. I hate Goodell.

Thought this might be the case. He's only averaging $22.5m per year as it was only a three year extension after his rookie deal. I really hate the way these contracts are reported. I'd be fine if we gave Benford a similar contract. A four year $110m contract extension would average about $22m per year over five years. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/derek-stingley-jr-s-new-contract-will-be-five-years-113-million It’s not officially signed yet, but it will be soon. And when it’s done, Texans cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. will have a five-year, $113 million deal. The deal adds three new years and $90 million in new money. But it’s still a five-year deal. Stingley was due to make $5.431 million in 2025, the fourth year of his rookie contract. He would have made $17.6 million in 2026, under the fifth-year option.

What reports out of curiosity?
-
Beane would never trade up a few spots for someone like Zay Flowers or Jordan Addison. Loves his 4th round picks too much.
-
Most receiving yards by a rookie TE in Bills history. The pick is looking worse and worse by the day as we roll out Palmer and Coleman as our "best" outside WR weapons.
-
From what I remember for the fall their were a few reports that he didn't interview that well and there were concerns about his passion for the game. Skinny frame too.

Wide Receiver Train Full Speed Ahead- CHOO CHOO!
Doc Brown replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
Draft the best player available on DL, CB, or WR on your board in the first round. Beane can move up and down a lot in the 2nd round to go after the other two positions if he so chooses. -
Bengals extend Chase (4 yrs $161mill) AND Higgins (4 yrs $115mill)
Doc Brown replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yes. Our defense was great against below average in average offenses. The 2021 season was a weird year where the defense only allowed 12.6 points in our wins (9 of the 11 wins with offenses that ranked 19th or worse in Scoring). The meltdown in Jacksonville and the opening game loss to the Steelers were the only exceptions. However, in their seven losses they allowed 28 ppg and five were against teams that finished 14th or better on offense. Kind of reinforced that this team's defense is built to smother below average to average offenses but struggles against top tier one's. It hasn't changed much even with Frazier's departure. As for the Bengals Super Bowl run. The 13 seconds game the Bills didn't make any meaningful defensive adjustments in the 2nd half/overtime and they had 28 points scored on them because of it. The Bengals gave up three points with lesser personnel were able to make the necessary 2nd half adjustments the next week in KC and I give Anarumo credit for that. -
We traded for Rasul Douglas because he was playing so bad across from Benford.
-
Part of me just wants it to happen because it would be hilarious. Maybe Diggs could announce our pick in the 2nd round that Houston traded for him.

He didn't forget. Anarumo had a great second half game plan. He only rushing three defenders from extremely light personnel with single high behind it allowing them to bracket Kelce and Hill. The confusion rattled Mahomes enough where he started to press and make decisions he usually didn't make. For some reason Reid didn't counter this by just running the ball. -

It was like asking Dale Earnhardt to win a race in a Prius. How do you think the Bengals made the Super Bowl in the 2021 season? -

They were so stupid to get rid of Lou Anarumo. -
It's a two way connection though and they know they have to make it work in order for the offense to be successful. In this analogy you'd have a guaranteed one year salary with the electrician and you'd have to keep giving him more shots to get the wiring right.

I disagree about trading Higgins. Chase will still be on a relatively cheap contract given a player of his caliber for the next two years by extending him this offseason. He's making $36m (not $41)/year over the next five. My guess is they front loaded the Higgins contract and they'll be able to move on from him with not much dead money after two seasons if they wanted to. That's when Chase's cap hit will kick in. Even re-signing Hendrickson is doable if they choose. They have to work on strengthening their o-line and rebuilding their defense in the draft though. The main problem is the Bengals have drafted heavily on defense the last couple of years knowing that this was coming. Eight of their day one and two picks have been on the defense and only two on the offense. It's not looking good for their two first round defensive picks (Myles Murphy and Daxton Hill). DJ Turner and Cam-Taylor Britt have been mah at best. Jordan Battle initially played will at safety but he's somewhat regressed last year. Carter was a bust at DE and already traded. If their DT's drafted in the 2nd and 3rd last year don't work out then the middle of that defensive line is in trouble. On top of all that, they may have fired one of the best d-coordinators in the league because he was made the scapegoat of a defensive roster devoid of talent. -

Hurts isn't Burrow either. Even if they don't draft as well as the Eagles Burrow is in that elite QB tier that can cover a lot of warts on their roster. -

It matters less when you have two guys on the outside that can quickly get open. If you have two elite players up for new contracts in their mid 20's at a premium position you pay them. If you have a chance to trade for one without giving up significant draft compensation you do it. It's why I wanted the Bills to trade for Metcalf and that lack of a move I will always point to if we keep coming up short again of a Super Bowl with Allen in his prime. Our two best WR's are Shakir and Palmer? I guess. Maybe Coleman can magically learn to create separation this off-season? Pathetic job by Beane in never replacing Diggs.
