I thought he flashed a few times in the preseason games, along with Brandin Bryant.

Our new punter will be (Update pg. 38 - Martin Signed)

I have been using the same method for several years now. I use a VPN (virtual private network) service on my computer. I set my location to the Netherlands. I then go to nflgamepass.com and subscribe to the NFL Game Pass for $200. With it, I get every single NFL game (no blackouts). I can watch them live, after the fact, or -- my favorite -- "game in 40", which cuts out all the commercials and downtime between plays and allows you to watch every play of a game in about 40 minutes. I also get NFL Network, Red Zone channel, and an archive of all NFL Network programming, every past Super Bowl, and all NFL games going back three seasons. I also get the "All 22" coach's footage for every game. It's fantastic. I then either wirelessly aircast the game from my laptop to my TV, or use an HDMI cable to hook the computer directly to the TV. Either way, the result is games in full HD on my television, with no buffering or poor quality. It costs about $60 a year to subscribe to a good, solid, reputable VPN. Then you have the $200 for Gamepass. So for $260 total per year, it's not exactly "cheap", but it's dependable, consistent, and has absolutely everything one could want in terms of NFL programming. It also costs less than going to the Bills bar 17 times a year.

OJ Howard expected to sign with Bengals (update: signs with Texans)
Logic replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
As someone who was really excited when Howard signed here, but then read all the camp reports and watched him in preseason... Let him go be a blocking specialist who doesn't offer anything as a receiver somewhere else. Tommy Sweeney has much better taste in music any way. 😁 -
Were the Bills "Hiding" Cook's skillset in the preseason?

No. -
Bills 2021 7th round pick CB Rachad Wildgoose was just cut by the Jets. Wonder if the Bills pursue him in any way, shape, or form.

Based on the little emoji buttons in the bottom right hand corner of this post, it looks like the current score is 22 people that disagree in some way or another, 1 person that agrees. Safe to say that yours is a minority opinion.

They don't make a "like" button strong enough for this comment right here.

I don't think you're in the minority. A lot here like him, myself included. His problem continues to be one that plagues a lot of depth WRs in the NFL: he doesn't play special teams. It is CRITICAL that WR5-WR7 be able to contribute on special teams, and Hodgins really doesn't. Unless and until he can change that, he's going to have a problem sticking on NFL rosters. Here's hoping they get him through to the practice squad.

Regarding OJ Howard being cut: I will simply say that I think the Bills made it a priority to significantly improve their TE2 spot in the past couple years, and they seem to have failed to do so. In 2020 they tried and failed to bring in Greg Olsen. Last season, they tried and failed to bring in Zach Ertz. There was also a rumor (for which I do not have proof) that they tried to trade for Evan Engram. This offseason, they were heavily rumored to be trying to sign Evan Engram, but he wound up making more on the open market than the Bills were comfortable paying. Furthermore, I think that had they been able to sign JD McKissic or Chase Edmonds (both of whom they targeted, both of whom chose other teams), there's a decent chance they would have used their second round pick on a tight end. They worked out Trey McBride, Jelani Woods, and others prior to the draft. In any case, they failed to bring in a quality TE2 via trade, free agency, or the draft. Morris and Sweeney both look to be JAGs. Given all that we heard about the desire to employ more pro sets, and given Beane's history of not giving up on something once he begins pursuing it...I can't help but wonder if Beane will continue to try to find an upgrade at TE2, either via cuts or trade. As it stands now, I'd rather have McKenzie on the field than Sweeney or Morris. If the main purpose of each play is to put maximum stress on the defense, then 12 personnel does not seem to be very advisable at this moment.

Are you sure it wasn't any of the three losses that were attributable to the DEFENSE that had them traveling to KC? That doesn't quite fit your narrative, I suppose.
-
This is simply not true. The Bills had six regular season losses in 2021. In three of them, the Bills gave up 34, 41, and 33 points. In three of them, the Bills gave up 9, 14, and 23 points. So at best, that sure looks like they lost as many games due to poor defensive performance as they lost due to poor offensive performance. The tiebreaker, though, would certainly be the Chiefs game, in which they scored 36 points but gave up 42. I know, I know, you somehow blame the offense for that loss, despite all reasonable evidence (including the game the following week where the Bengals advanced to the Super Bowl by holding those same Chiefs to 24 points) pointing to the contrary. It is reasonable to say that the Bills' offense cost them a few wins last year. But it certainly wasn't responsible for "most" of their losses, as you claim. And most importantly, it wasn't responsible for giving up 42 points to the Chiefs in the season deciding matchup.

I was more of a Da'Rick Rogers guy myself. It was sad to see him immediately vault the Colts into Super Bowl contention.

Cutdown day: Where a bunch of fans freak out over who the Bills cut and -- assuming that every GM in the league loves our fringe roster guys as much as we Bills fans do -- swear those players will get scooped up immediately by other teams.....only for 99% of them to easily make it through to the practice squad. Fun times.

IF the Bills have four true running backs active this year (they haven't the past few years, but there's reason to believe this might change under a new OC), then the plan seems clear: Singletary - early down and between the 20s back. Essentially the "starter" Moss - Red Zone and short yardage back Cook - Pass-catching and change of pace back Jones - special teams only Granted, if the Bills continue to activate only three backs on gamedays, then this doesn't work. If they decide to change that, though...all signs from OTAs, camp, and preseason games point to the above plan. Further, Moss is great depth in the event that Singletary gets hurt. He's also the best pass blocking running back on the team. Lastly, Moss represents insurance for 2023 in the event that Singletary doesn't re-sign. He'd become the starter in 2023, or at least the co-starter with Cook.

Belichick: September might be an extended preseason
Logic replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall
People are making fun of the Pats and of this quote, but Belichick has operated this way for years. How many Septembers in a row did we see the Pats get off to a slow start and hear all the sports talk shows breathlessly proclaiming "The End of the Patriots Dynasty!!!", only for them to look unbeatable October through December? Feels like it happened just about every year. Meanwhile, our own beloved GM, Brandon Beane, is on record as saying that you don't really know what your team is until about game 5 or 6 in any given season. So sure, the "extended preseason" wording may be awkward, but the notion that teams are still tinkering with schemes and personnel and finding their identity for the first month of the season is true, and it's something the Pats have done for years. -

Hasn’t punted in the NFL since 2016. If we’re signing guys just because they’re from Buffalo, I’d like to suggest Chad Michael Murray. -
McDermott/Beane press conference 8/27: Matt Araiza released
Logic replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’ll simply say that I think the Bills did the right thing. Removing “right and wrong” and the ethics of the situation and simply looking at this from a football and business standpoint…the distraction, PR nightmare, and hit to the team culture and reputation were simply not worth it. The Bills simply could not afford to roster this player — and all of the distraction that that entails — while the legal process played out over a series of weeks or months. I, personally, am relieved that I don’t have to cheer for a man who even MAY have committed such a heinous act. I think the Bills showed sound judgement and made the only logical decision they could make at this point. Here’s hoping for justice to be served in this civil case, whatever that may mean, and for peace for the (alleged) victim and her family. Back to football. On to the Rams. -
Matt Araiza accused of rape, served with a lawsuit.
Logic replied to bill8164's topic in Off the Wall
The issue I see is that it's very difficult to get to the real "truth of the matter" in these types of cases, and during the entire period of time that the team is in the process of attempting to do so, there is a giant distraction hanging over their heads, and a lot of damage being done to their reputation. Suppose this ends the way these things so often do -- with a settlement out of court and an NDA being signed. No real answer of what happened or didn't happen, no real closure. Meanwhile, weeks of national discussion, distraction, outrage, and damage to the Bills' image of "family and culture" has been done. But now their punter is "free and clear" legally and they get to keep him. Was it worth it? -

You're right. Watson was never accused of participating in a violent gang rape for 90 minutes. -
