  1. Is it too early to give him the key to the city?
  2. The "how much should Josh run the ball?" debate will obviously be a recurring one throughout his career. I remain where I've always been on the issue: Josh's running ability is one of the things that make him so lethal, and so difficult to defend. To purposely take it out of his game would be foolish. You don't ask one of the two or three best players in the world at a given skill (in this case, quarterback scrambling) to do it less. To do so is to needlessly neuter your offense. The issue is not Josh's running. The issue is his unwillingness to slide or run out of bounds a lot of the time. Russell Wilson, for instance, has been a great running QB for years, and has never gotten hurt doing it, nor has he taken a lot of hits that would shorten his career. Why? He slides. He runs out of bounds. He knows when to say "enough is enough, time to get down". The very things we love about Josh -- his never-say-die attitude and his will to win -- are the same things that will always make it tough for him to not try to gain an extra two yards on every run, which does add hits to his body that, over time, could shorten his career. See: Newton, Cam. With all of this in mind, the focus should be twofold: 1. Do everything you can to coach/convince Josh to slide or get out of bounds at the end of runs. 2. Be very selective about when you call quarterback runs. Got a big lead? Don't do it. Playing an inferior opponent that you can likely beat by other means? Don't do it. In between the 20s and moving the ball reasonably well? Don't do it. Crucial 3rd down? Red zone? Game on the line? Playoffs? Green light. Go, go, go.
  3. It seems like Hart is going to make this roster. I know, I know...I'm as surprised as the rest of you. He looks like a totally different player this year. His showing that he can play capably at guard is the key difference, in my opinion. I also think that it's all but decided that Dorsey will be in the booth on Sundays.
  4. Chicago Bears: Just try not to die on the sh!tty turf! Indianapolis Colts: Another year, another quarterback Jacksonville Jaguars: Defying parity since 2008 Kansas City Chiefs: We're just here to give Jackson and Britney TikTok material Los Angeles Chargers: Hey, we exist too!!!! Miami Dolphins: If you ain't tamperin', you ain't tryin'! Seattle Seahawks: Just try to play as aggressively as coach Carroll chews gum!
  5. The Bills have arguably the best medical and sports science staff in the league. Whatever the doctors and medical staff say, I trust them. If I had to bet money on it, I'd guess he starts the season on PUP, misses the first four games, and returns in week five. In that case, I think Jackson, Elam, and Benford will be good enough to get us through until White is back on the field.
  6. By my count, it makes him the lowest paid safety in the league in AAV. Beane really is a wizard.
  7. Damn. That's a real bargain for a player of his quality.
  8. The word "woke" and the resulting debate and breathless pearl clutching around "woke-ism" is such an eyeroll inducing waste of time. A culture war non-issue created to distract from actual, important issues. Of the many, many pressing problems facing the planet and its people in 2022, "wokeness" is about 57,846th on the list.
  9. It was really good, thanks for asking. Fred Armisen was really funny. He did very musician-specific comedy. Anyone in the audience who was a musician -- or at least was passionate and knowledgeable about music -- probably enjoyed it. Anyone who wasn't, maybe didn't. He had a real Andy Kaufman-esque "I don't really care if you think I'm funny or not" vibe. I thought it was hilarious. Waxahatchee was good. Didn't have a band behind her. Just got up with an acoustic guitar, solo, and sang her songs. She's a good songwriter with a lovely voice and impressive vocal range. Courtney Barnett was really good. Coming in, to the degree that I knew anything about any of these acts, I was more a fan of Waxahatchee's stuff. I liked what I had heard from Barnett well enough, but her live act really hit differently. Her band was tight and energetic. It was different than what I expected after listening to her most recent album, but different in a good way. I liked it quite a bit. Between the three member band and Courtney playing a left-handed Washburn guitar, I got real Nirvana vibes. Sleater Kinney.....still isn't for me. I gave it a chance. I really did. Just not my cup of tea.
  10. I dunno, man. I've done exactly that and, sure, I had to be ejected from the Home Depot pants-less and and shrieking, but I STILL wouldn't have traded Josh Allen.
  11. I agree. I think another reason the Bills will keep Moss is that they're likely to let Singletary walk this offseason. Moss, then, could be the thunder to Cook's lightning in 2023 (assuming he plays well this season, of course). Cook is the only running back on the roster that I could see getting a second contract. I only believe in giving second contracts to running backs who either offer dynamic, homerun hitting ability, or are serious threats in the passing game. Cook potentially checks both of those boxes. Obviously, it's way too early to declare that he'll be worthy of big money in a few years, but he at least seems to have the skillset that makes it a reasonable conversation. Otherwise, I'm team "don't give second contracts to running backs, especially if you're paying big money to a quarterback". (Sorry, that's a long team name).
  12. It would be cool to get a draft pick back for Cam Lewis or Nick McCloud, given that the Bills are reasonably unlikely to sneak both players through to the practice squad. I'd suggest trying to get a 7th out of the Giants for Lewis, but Schoen is probably smart enough to call that bluff and just let the Bills cut him. I think it would be highly unwise to trade away the third best edge rusher -- and likely the best right defensive end -- on the roster, just as he appears to be starting to live up to his draft potential.
  13. I respectfully disagree that they've been showcasing Moss for a trade. If you want to trade him, you give him a bunch of carries in the second half of games. You don't mix him in with the 1st and 2nd units in camp and preseason, and you don't give him repeated goal line carries. Further, Moss offers power and short yardage/goal line ability that no one else on the roster has. Blacksheer and Johnson are both more similar to Singletary and Cook. No one else has what Moss has, unless they want to make Gilliam the full time short yardage back. All signs point to Singletary, Moss, Cook and Jones being the RB foursome that the Bills roll with this year.
  14. "I would trade MYSELF before I traded Josh Allen". - Brandon Beane on the Pat McAfee show.
  15. Beane missed on Cody Ford. Beane got impressive compensation back, considering the level of player that Ford is and what other, better guards have gotten in return. Both things can be true. These facts are not mutually exclusive.
  16. Josh Allen. Keenum looked really good on Saturday. Now's the time to sell high on #17. Just ask that guy that called into WGR after the game.
  17. As someone on Twitter said: Beane just got the same round draft pick in return for Cody Ford that the Patriots got for Pro Bowl lever player Shaq Mason. Not bad.
  18. I'm gonna be corny as hell, but... Taking a full, unobstructed breath of air is awesome. Of all the things we take for granted, this might be the biggest. If you've ever had a really bad cold where you're so congested you can't take a good in-breath, or if you had a rough bout of COVID, or if you've ever known anyone with emphysema or pneumonia... I'm tellin' ya...breathing normally is AWESOME.
  19. I play exclusively online. I lost interest in beating the computer some years ago. It's much more satisfying to me to beat a real person. Especially using the Bills exclusively, who most people online never use. I've been signed up for notifications for PS5 availability for months. Followed Twitter threads, applied for "invites" from Amazon and the Playstation store, the whole nine yards. I've literally owned every generation of Playstation up 'til now, and ONLY Playstation. I finally just got sick of waiting. I mean...THREE YEARS! Ridiculous. I wanted a next gen system, and I ultimately figured that owning something was better than owning nothing and continuing to wait around for Playstation 5. I opted for the Series S because it's $200 cheaper than the Series X. For the level of gaming that I do (I'm not fanatical, I wouldn't consider myself a "gamer", I just like to play Madden online and an occasional racing or fighting game), I figured the lower picture resolution and lack of disc drive would be fine. I've enjoyed it so far. I don't miss having a disc drive. I just downloaded Madden straight from the X Box store. Took a few hours, and boom, there it was.
  20. I bought it for X Box Series S. I've always been a Playstation guy, but I've been waiting 3 years now for the ability to buy a PS5, and they're STILL not widely available, due to the chip shortage. So ridiculous. I finally gave up and bought X Box Series S, which costs $200 less anyway. Sure, resolution is "only" 1080p instead of 4k, but I think I'll survive. Won my first online matchup 24-21 in double overtime against the Ravens. Opponent marched the ball down the field with ease in overtime, but got cocky in the red zone. From four yards out, rather than run it, he dropped back to hit the same drag route he'd been spamming all game. I saw it coming, dropped Von Miller into coverage, picked it off in the end zone, and took it back 41 yards. Ran the ball seven straight times from there to get into field goal range. Nothing he could do about it. Allen is fun to use, as always. The passing game is way less overpowered than it was in previous years. Defense actually covers the receivers pretty tightly. You have to throw into much smaller windows, rather than guys being wide open. Certainly a learning curve. I was able to get the run game going pretty well, though. Moss and Singletary up the gut and Cook on pitches and stretch plays. First impressions overall? Player movement, offense, and defense are all more realistic on next gen. Obviously better graphics, but that's to be expected. The overall experience is still a little clunky and buggy, but it often is in the first few days after release. A patch or two should fix it. Still, it feels like an upgrade over Madden 22 on last gen consoles. I'm excited to play NCAA football for the first time in years, too.
  21. The proliferation of drug addiction amongst a homeless population that already more often than not struggles with mental illness has made for some truly sad scenes in Downtown Portland the past few years. Job and home losses related to the COVID situation -- not to mention the exodus of businesses out of downtown as more and more companies shift to work-from-home models -- have only made things worse. Hard times. I recently read this article from The Atlantic about the new, more potent, more dangerous types of drugs on the streets in the past few years, and I have no doubt that the one described therein, which is a far more potent and dangerous type of meth (hold your Walter White jokes, please) is the main drug afflicting the homeless populations of west coast cities. Truly sad and scary. https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2021/11/the-new-meth/620174/ I know, I know: I make a super compelling case to come visit Portland. Don't everyone flock here at once!
  22. Just wanted to second the bolded part. The easy access to unmatched, plentiful, and diverse scenes of nature (mountains, crystal clear rivers, rain forests, coastline, high desert), culture, food and drink, coffee, high quality and legal cannabis, kind people...all make the pacific northwest a truly beautiful and special place. Plenty will (and have, in this thread) talk(ed) smack about the homeless populations on west coast cities or various other socioeconomic problems -- and admittedly, it's been a really tough few years out here, and homelessness IS a big problem -- but I don't know many cities in the U.S. without problems of their own -- including Buffalo, Rochester, Cleveland, and all the other rust belt cities. Those places, just like the PNW, also have their virtues that balance out the less than desirable aspects of living there. No place is perfect, but the pacific northwest is a beautiful place to live, and it gets old seeing people who haven't spent much time here (if they've even ever been here at all) sh!t on it. P.S. Congrats on the move, Ethan. I wish you and the good doctor happiness and prosperity in your new home.
  23. Howard has been a disappointment. Whatever athleticism he possessed in college seems to be long gone. At this point, I’m not sure he offers any more than Quintin Morris, and at least Morris’ arrow is pointing up and he plays special teams. Still, without a trade, Howard might make the roster anyway…UNLESS the Bills are willing to eat $2mil.
  24. All of them. Jones, Matakevitch, Neal, and Kumerow are all making the roster.
  25. Yeah I mean...I guess I could have just not listed ANYTHING under "stock down", but like I said to another poster...after a game as good and thoroughly dominant as the Bills just played, the negatives aren't going to be all that negative. Still, I'm not going to pretend the Bills played a completely perfect game for four quarters, either, and if you're going to try to identify the less then stellar spots -- amidst a sea of stellar play, mind you -- you'd start with missed tackles, the special teams play, and the corner depth. It IS picking nits, though. It was a great game by the Bills.
