This is 100% true, yet I see fans still calling for more runs. The problem isn’t a lack of runs , it’s that they’re terrible at passing.

I wanted the Bills to select Watson over Mahomes, but not taking a QB when one was desperately needed was an egregious error. That they passed on both players due to functional ineptness with a lame duck GM in place is horrific. -

The facts do not support your belief. The eye in the sky doesn’t lie. While no one would choose the Bills talent over that of the Chiefs, take a look at the all 22. There are open WRs ( they may drop accurate passes at a high rate) , the QB often has time but takes unnecessary sacks. JA also looks confused, lacks instincts and places passes all over the place whether on the run or stationary. To think that a player such as Mahomes would suddenly lose his abilities due to the players around him is folly. He would not be experiencing the same team success perhaps, but he’d still be a mobile, instinctive player with accuracy and arm strength. -
If you subscribe to much of the logic on this board, the answer is a definitive NO. Apparently you need a perfect team, pro bowlers signed as FA’s from other teams and a high first round QB that has sat on the bench and learned how to be great for an appreciable length of time. Then you throw in a proven winning HC that is an offensive genius. It was not possible to win with players that couldn’t put up stats with mediocre QBs or talented players that had underperformed. All must be jettisoned because of “ the process”. This process , mind you requires vanquishing years of players accumulated in multiple NFL drafts. This is important, because an offense can only work in today’s pass happy NFL if it consists of players known as “ our guys”. The process is long and arduous, but can achieve great results in approximately 7-10 years. Never mind that that those hired to implement the process will be fired long before that. Never mind.

The QB is far more important. He can’t do it alone, but the talent and skill will be obvious. If he has franchise QB ability, he will raise the level of those around him. Mahomes is very good already, might even be great. He’d be good in Buffalo too. Look what he does on the move. No air mailed passes. They’re on target. He played one game last year, this is essentially his rookie campaign with more film prep and an extra training camp. If that’s enough to make chicken salad out of chicken poop, every team would be doing it. -

That only gets you so far. If your comparison is the determining factor on if a QB is good or not, the Bills may never have a good one. When was the last time the Bills had an offensive guru and a QB whisperer on staff ? I guess it doesn’t matter which player they draft, they don’t have the staff to make them into the great players they could be. If only.... -

Nature or nurture ? That is the question. I’ll say it’s the former, and while Mahomes has a lot around him he still must be given credit. Watch what he does when pressured, look at his accuracy. He has great instincts. While he might not have the same exact results in Buffalo, the talent would still be obvious. He sat and waited in KC, but while probably beneficial it was not likely a transformative experience. Simply put, you’re either good or you’re not. The Bills organizational ineptness led to this. -
Allen had most time to throw than any QB

All this means is either Allen takes the longest to read the defense and pull the trigger, or his WRs take the longest to get separation. -

Might not look exactly the same, but not completely different either. Do you believe the QB makes the team, or the team makes the QB? -
They didn’t have a QB that was willing or able to throw to him at the time. Eventually you have to pay players, not everyone will be on a rookie contract. WRs make big $$ as do QBs and top CB’s then OTs. That’s the NFL salary structure, and thus far this FO hasn’t drafted a WR worth a damn. What makes anyone think they know how to evaluate players ? 5 teams wanted Watkins in FA. That pretty much says it all.

And that’s why hindsight is for fans. HC’ s and especially GMs are paid the huge $$ to have foresight. Thats what’s lost on folks who throw that old chestnut about hindsight around. You need to have some real skill ( and some luck) to be a good GM. If you don’t, you’ll be fired and thrown on the scrap heap. Imagine telling your owner you didn’t draft Mahomes when you had the chance, but “hey hindsight is 20/20”.. -

Throw Beane in there too. And next time , hire a GM before the HC. -

He’s smart and a pretty good athlete, but there’s not much about him right now that make you think he can ever play NFL QB at a high level. -
Ahhh, but that doesn’t mean Watkins would have had similar numbers of targets in Buffalo. There is no Kelce, no Hill etc. Say what you will about Watkins, but he’d easily be the best WR on the team and the biggest threat in the passing game. When your team has no talent, trading away good players looks foolish.

This is mostly what happens when you can’t tackle without a penalty flag and you can’t sack a QB without same. It’s funny, the NFL is doing everything it can to outlaw playing defense and scoring is up in a huge way as a result. Meanwhile , the Bills offense can barely manage an occasional first down.

Maybe not the same, but still would look like a man among boys and easily the best player on the Offense. Just would need some help. But his talent and accuracy would make a difference already in a huge way. He’s like a smaller, way faster Ben Roethlisberger. The fact they have to figure out a game plan tells you something. It’s not just send a blitz every play and he’s toast . -

Andy Reid doesn’t put the ball right where it needs to be. Josh Allen couldn’t make that thing work like it is. Maybe in three years , but I highly doubt it. It’s Jimmys and Joes, not Xs and Os. -
Sorry, but you don’t get anything for saying you like a particular College QB. The Chiefs and their FO will reap the rewards, but I’m pretty sure they didn’t call you or jeffiswhatever for advice before making the pick. If the Bills organization wasn’t dysfunctional and picked Mahomes, fans would root for him just as they will root for whoever wears the cloth. But fans don’t make decisions , they just hope the actual people working for their favorite team make the choices they like. What if these fans on TSW agreed with you? The Bills still would not have drafted Mahomes.

Well no, but they could easily have spent just a single first round draft pick on Mahomes. -
Probably not until they have a different GM and / or HC and OC.

Young was regarded as a bust early on. It wasn’t until he ( self admittedly) reinvented his game to make more plays from the pocket that he became a great NFL QB.
