There is one primary reason we lost this game
Boatdrinks replied to foreboding's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Do we need 5 threads whose topic is the main reason the Bills lost the game ? -
Jalen Ramsey loses the game and throws Rapp under the Bus
Boatdrinks replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not a surprise coming from him. Rex Ryan takes about it on NFL countdown. Said the coverage was a “ split fist” ( insert joke here). The safety had the deep outside and Ramsey was supposed to jam the WR in the allowable zone, then switch to a trail technique. He described Ramsey’s technique on the play as “ terrible “. Ramsey is a complete dill hole. -
I agree. To read this board, you’d think every other offense and QB functions with precise, pinpoint passes dropping into wide open receivers hands at all times.

Is There a Chance McD Threw the Game Yesterday?
Boatdrinks replied to Irv's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wasn’t much scheming going on with the Pats* O yesterday, either. Just old school big boy football. The talking heads are drooling over how they threw an LB in to play FB. Big deal; same body type. Their most exotic scheme facet was the play action pass, which the Bills bit on more than the cameraman. Then they tried some blatant cheating out of pure desperation with pick plays, which amazingly were flagged by the incompetent officiating crew. Are you referring to the 4th down spot ? Good luck; those just don’t get overturned. Even BB lost that vs KC a couple weeks back. I was actually amazed Belly threw it, but he does strange things when faced with a likely loss. -
Rudolph’s a bigger version of Duck, with a bit better arm. His decision making under pressure is just as bad or possibly worse.

Is There a Chance McD Threw the Game Yesterday?
Boatdrinks replied to Irv's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn’t call it throwing a game by any means, but the defensive style was so different it was apparent. I just think they knew their chance at a division title was slim, and the chance of seeing NE again in the playoffs was greater. So it seemed they went with a simple game plan and showed none of what they might be working on for the playoffs yesterday. Everyone knows how Brady and his O line have done in the passing game this year, it’s all on film. The Bills did zero to exploit this, even when Newhouse came into the game. They wanted to win, for sure. Just not at the expense of getting wins in the playoffs. -
Ravens beat NE, so they’d have to lose at home to PIT next week to lose the 1 seed. Not going to happen.
-
If they’re going to win in the playoffs ( especially beyond the WC round) , Daboll will have to open it up when they get a lead. The running on first down habit will have to go away as well. They can’t win when they’re in third and 6+ all day.

When the other team has the ball for 40 minutes, missed tackles are going to be a huge factor. The vanilla pass rush combined with the poor tackling conspired to limit the Bills offensive chances. Not comparing the offenses in any way, but think of what happened in SB XXV. If Belichick thinks you’re vulnerable in the ground game ( and is having trouble protecting his QB) that’s what you’re going to get. They were fundamentally sloppy, and it led to the loss.

Lack of running game is huge. The Bills need another effective RB. Singletary gets yards , but he doesn’t churn yards when creases aren’t there. They need a power back to compliment him, and Gore of 6-7 years ago would be that guy. Daboll puts his limited offense behind the sticks. They’re not good enough to overcome it consistently , and when the rush is in Allen’s face , he doesn’t set his feet right. That means short passes are low and others sail. Some first down passes will allow Allen to have an extra second and set his feet.

The Bills defense can keep them in every game, but the offense is just severely limiting to their chances. That includes the coordinator and his lack of creativity and feel for the game. In my estimation , the Saints with Bridgewater would still be significantly superior to the Bills in their ability to go deep in the playoffs. The Bills need to get a lead and hold on, as their ability to score late in a tight game is just fair to average at best.
-
Agreed. A deep run would be a surprise, as some ingredients are lacking. A Bills win in the WC round is a strong possibility as road teams win every year in that round. It’s a lot harder to do once you advance to the divisional. This roster truly is a year away, but I’m going to sit back and enjoy the playoff ride.
-
They lost to the Browns before as well. Matchups have something to do with it, though I agree the intensity can trail off when things are sewn up. No way the Ravens lose to the Steelers in week 17 though.
-
I disagree. A team still has to have the necessary ingredients to make that run, even if their regular season didn’t reflect it. Sometimes a team will just get hot in the playoffs and it carries them through. Thinking that every team in the playoffs has the same chance to win the championship is folly. Being realistic about what the Bills have and don’t have isn’t stupid. They’re in a rebuild and having success while covering up major flaws. That’s a result of good coaching , but they’ll need to take it to another level in the playoffs. You really can’t compare the Bills with a developing QB to a team with a future HOF QB that was in the NFC title game last season. You could , but some might call that “ plain stupid”.

Will Allen run more in the Playoffs?
Boatdrinks replied to SCBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He should. And I don’t mean that awful QB sweep that Daboll can’t get out of his head. They need to spread things out and have Allen take off if the throw isn’t there. A few options as well. This team isn’t good enough running the ball to not use Allen’s mobility and use it a lot. It’s win or go home, so they need to coach with that mindset. -
I think the Bills can win in HOU and it looks like TEN can win a road game at Arrowhead. PIT ? I don’t think so. Anyway, it’s the NFL and the first round always has upsets. If you’re trying to compare the Saints current team / roster to the Bills you are way off base. They have a future HOF QB, studs all over the place and are absolutely in a “ win a championship now” mode and have been for a few seasons.

Why Does Edelman Never Get Flagged for Taunting?
Boatdrinks replied to RaoulDuke79's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He wears a silver helmet with an eagle wing decal on it. Same reason that the OL can hold, Brady can ground the football and Gilmore can clutch and grab without consequence. -
Pretty sure Daboll is calling the plays, though. Not sure how much McD has his hands in that, but it should be very little. If McD is not trusting his OC enough to delegate the responsibility to him, then he’s unlikely to get a high caliber OC in Buffalo. Anyway, the lack of aggression on offense is not good. They don’t have a running attack that can take control when the opposing D knows what’s coming.

You answered your own question. On to the playoffs.
-
Can’t disagree, but we already knew this. The Bills roster overhaul is not yet complete. While most of last seasons putrid offense has been replaced, they are still missing a couple of key pieces. They’re better on that side of the ball, but not good enough to carry the team deep into the playoffs. Still, they have a good chance at a WC round win even with a suspect offense. The Patriots have major issues, and one game hardly means they’ve gotten into gear. They hung on to win at home Vs a questionable Bills offense. These are clearly not the same Patriots.

Other Saturday Games - NFLN Tripleheader
Boatdrinks replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I stand corrected. Just no scheduled SNF final week, lol.
