  1. And watch. If we sign this guy, the exact same people moaning about not doing anything with the WR room and not getting a guy with speed will turn around and say this isn’t the guy.
  2. This is the third thread on this same topic currently.
  3. Good thoughts here. Acceleration rate would be something I’d like to see.
  4. As a scientist I am all about gathering data, but I want to gather meaningful data. Data that has correlative value, in this case data that shows me a guy has a better or worse chance of success in the league. So with all the testing done at the combine I presume the league has done this?
  5. The second coming of Rice? Just stop with the hyperbole. Our offense looked really good last year and a day 3 pick is not likely to make it better. Could it? Maybe. But having a big tub of goo helping to shore up run defense likely helps more overall. On day 3 I imagine you have Beane and the coaches looking at their board. And if considering a WR getting scouting input, Brady’s take on a guy and whether he adds to what we have, and so on.
  6. Then measure explosion rather than total time over 40 yards. I don’t think they’re the same. If, in the end, the difference between two guys over 4 yards is a foot, I don’t see that as meaningful and wonder why so much emphasis is placed on the metric.
  7. What needs to be done to help you let this go? Resigning Cooper maybe?
  8. I would tend to agree. Are there then other parameters measured during the combine that should be given more importance than total 40 time?
  9. I looked it up. 4.46. So let’s say you get someone who is a 4.3. If I have the math right, the latter guy over 40 yards runs just over 1 foot farther over 40 yards than the guy running 4.46. Has anyone in football ever shown that’s a meaningful difference? I’m not trying to argue just for the sake of arguing, but is that a real difference on the field?
  10. So if the kid they drafted round 7 got drafted by us round 5 that would have solved your issue?
  11. Do they suck, or are they just the 6th guy when we have 5 guys in front of them? Because a guy hasn’t quite broken through, do they automatically suck?
  12. How would you answer to the fact they have guys with speed on the practice squad that don’t suit up?
  13. We also add guys in free agency. I recall last year people laughed when Hollins was added, and now many are very sad he left after one year. We cheered for Cooper but I don’t think he added what we thought he would. Some now assume Palmer will stink but will that tune be different in a year? Same with Coleman. Drafting a WR every year I guess is fine, but to me you use a draft to add strength where you need it, and we needed much re strength with DBs and the D line interior. So they addressed that. Doesn’t mean I think Beane is absolutely done at WR, but if he wants to keep the offense humming I hope he’s working on the Cook deal now.
  14. And Brady helped them. The reality is we have a great QB, so I don’t get hypotheticals ignoring that. If we had drafted the kid we picked in the 7th in the 4th I wonder if the kerfluffle would still be going on.
  15. But we don’t have that. We have the MVP who helps make guys better. Like Brady did for years.
  16. If Brady wanted a guy you can put outside and run fast down the field, he has one in Hamler. Had one in Isabella. The fact he never used them says something to me about what he values. You want speed, separation, good hands, etc you’re talking more about first round type talent.
  17. The starters are Shakir, Coleman, Palmer, and Samuel. The 5th guy ain’t playing much unless he steps up and proves value like Hollins did last year and if he contributes on special teams. I know they have said they need speed, and that they had several guys in for talks that were the smaller speed type guys. But they also knew they needed more DBs (remember, Taron ain’t getting any younger) so when it came to their picks on day 3 they saw more value there.
  18. We have fast guys on the practice squad. The assumption is a day 3 guy this year would be better. Maybe yes, maybe no.
  19. But people here are complaining we didn’t get that on day 3 of the draft. The kind of guy you’re describing is in the top 10 of day 1, isn’t he? I am sure Beane looks at all such scenarios.
  20. Film of games he played in, yes. Or do you think I watched films he didn’t play in?
  21. My opinion is he’s an upgrade over Cooper. I acknowledge I could be wrong. Perhaps you should do the same with your opinions. He needs to step up. Beane has challenged him to do so.
  22. Do you take into account he was playing injured most of last year?
  23. Hancock at safety. And one of the guys they drafted should be the replacement for an aging Taron in a couple years.
  24. I think it is much more likely he gets better vs. worse. Yes, I watched some film. No, that not make me an expert in any way, shape or form. Just like you, the difference being I accept that.
  25. How many truly explosive weapons are there in the league? I am sure Beane is looking. Best thing for the offense now is to get things worked out with Cook. But he is basically what people clamored for on day 3 of the draft. A speedster. And right back at you. I’m not the one pretending to be an expert.
