1/22/23 GAMEDAY THREAD Divisional Playoffs Bills vs. Bengals

Hope everything is OK. Keeping you in my prayers. -
Philly looked really good. And as good as SF has looked having to rely on a rookie QB to get you to Arizona is dicey.

Kielce destroyed them. I don’t think there is any way to defend him.

Kielce is going to be in the top 10 GOAT players when he’s done.
-
That is ridiculous. If that’s roughing the passer then just play flag football

AJ and Shaw dominate their replacement LT

Will your respect for Tom Brady change when he retires?

The GOAT but one of the biggest whiners in sports history. -
How confident are you the Bills beat the Bengals?
oldmanfan replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall
My concern is that for the past few weeks he keeps saying he needs to learn from his mistakes but keeps making them. I love Josh but we need the Good Josh from here on out. -

Let me preface this by saying I have been a fan since opening day of 1960, and many times I have been accused of being too much of a homer, especially when we had guys like Whaley running the show. And let me also say that, like everyone, I love Josh. I think he is the guy who will get us over the top and win the big one. That said, my confidence for us winning the game Sunday is 0%. Not because I think their receivers will destroy us; Leslie and McD will figure out ways in the back end to slow them down, and I think their losses on the O line will allow us to pressure Burrow more. Not because I think there's a huge discrepancy in coachng, or tanet, or anything else. My reasoning is based on one thing only: Josh As much as it pains me to say this, and as much as I know I'll get roasted here, and as much as I hope I look like a complete idiot come Monday morning, I think it has been clear for a while now that Josh is not the same Josh we've seen in the past. As my daughters and I put it, the Good Josh. I think the burden of having to be the guy who constantly carries the team (and to a large extent the hopes of the Mafia) on his shoulders, the injury to his arm, and most importantly the shock of the Damar incident has affected Josh's psyche. When he talked about the Damar incident as something spiritual clued me in that Josh is carrying a tremendous burden, and I think it is getting the best of him. And it is exemplified by the turnovers, and by him not taking easier passes instead of resorting to hero ball. This is where we really miss Daboll. Not so much play calling, but Daboll had no problem getting in Josh's face (and head) and making his see the under routes and such. Dorsey either hasn't done that, or Josh is not listening when he does so. So, regretfully, I think the balloon bursts Sunday. There is only so many times you can play with fire before you get burned, and I think Josh is going to make some critical mistakes this Sunday that swing the game towards the Bengals. I see a couple picks and/or an untimely fumble, and the Bengals winning by a FG. Call it 23-20. And again I hope I can come on here Sunday night and start a thread with the title "I am an idiot". -

Very good write-up on Josh Allen and the Bills this postseason
oldmanfan replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
A very good article. My daughters and I talk before every game about needing the good Josh vs. the bad. The article I think correctly shows how we get the good and bad Josh in each game. Certainly more good than bad most of the time, but the bad is what will lose playoff games. The other thing the article suggests is that Dorsey’s play calls and designs give Josh shorter options, but sometimes he chooses not to use them. When Daboll was around I can recall him screaming at Josh for bad decisions. Maybe Dorsey should. One last thing. The author correctly describes how we don’t have the same overall WR depth, O line quality, or offensive imagination as other teams. All the more reason why our record is incredibly impressive. -
Josh Allen Bashers, what's your solution?
oldmanfan replied to ChicagoRic's topic in The Stadium Wall
Let's hope Gabe is the playoff Gabe. Regardless next week depends on Josh being the good Josh. -
I'm happy for Hodgins. He was at best the #4 WR on the Bills, and as such needed to play special teams. Which he didn't do. Kumerow was great on ST, and a good #4-5 WR. So he got the nod. Hodgins is now on a team where he is one of the top 2 WRs based on the guys they have, and he's taking advantage of an opportunity that was not going to be available with the Bills. Recall that Daboll could have had him on our active roster when he was our OC and did not do so.

Josh Allen Bashers, what's your solution?

We all love Josh. But he made mistakes yesterday that almost cost the game. And to be truthful they are mistakes he’s been making for a while now. The fumble they ran in for the TD was egregious; he simply has to take the sack there. Continually throwing long when we were up 10, and giving them the ball back vs. running shorter routes and taking time off the clock is another. He fell into hero ball mode too much. We don’t know if these were Dorsey’s calls or not, but Josh has been around long enough now to know better on these type of things. I think it’s reasonable to wonder how much the emotions of all that’s gone on this year weigh on him. Again, we all love the guy. I am confident we will win a Lombardi with him at the helm. But unfortunately I am equally confident we have no chance of doing so if he plays like he did yesterday. And I would be delighted to be wrong. -
Any news on Jackson and Elam?

Play calls should never stop momentum. The series with the two long ball incompletions did that. Whether Dorsey called that, or Josh tried to play hero ball, it was the opposite of what was needed.

What gets fixed this post season - Offensively and Defensely
oldmanfan replied to Thrivefourfive's topic in The Stadium Wall
I would hope this week Frazier and McD come up with some kind of plan where we quit allowing teams to make first downs when they have more than 10 yards to make.
