    Well when you look at it in replay the football is not in control through the process of getting to the goal line in my humble opinion. Its a bad rule regardless and a gift wrapped football given to the opposition for no reason IMO.

    Always room for improvement when it comes to protection in humble opinion.

    I've tried to rationalise why a team that just drove the ball down the playing field would lose the football when its fumbled out of the field of play. I can't come up with any reason this rule is in place.

    This is a really good post and I was just thinking about modifications to a QB's shoulder pads that could be made because of what you posted. QB is more vulnerable then any other athlete on the field and he's also in many instances the most important player in the franchise.
