Diggs interview with Dan Patrick on 2/10..
HappyDays replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Nick Sirriani got to the Super Bowl his 2nd year on the job. Kyle Shanahan and Zac Taylor both got there in their 3rd years. It's a myth that it takes several years for a new coaching staff to get the team to championship caliber. A new coach with no franchise QB, maybe (although that's where Taylor and Shanahan were when they took over). A new coach starting off with Josh Allen and established players on both sides of the ball would have very few if any growing pains. Don't be so afraid of change. If a regime after 7 years of trying doesn't even sniff a Super Bowl appearance even after several years of elite QB play, it is reasonable to give someone else a chance. -
I'm good on more small linebackers. Size wins in the NFL. It's a trait that Beane has not put enough stock in. I don't want us approaching the offseason with the mindset of just filling positions on defense. It's more about finding the type of player we are missing. Brutal, mean, imposing. Edmunds finally had a very good year but you wouldn't use any of those words to describe his play. Ditto for Milano. Terrel Bernard was supposedly a "heart and soul" guy at Baylor. I want muscle and sinew. It's why I have grown to love the idea of Jack Campell in the 2nd. You watch clips of him and nobody is moving him backwards, he is stopping runners dead in their tracks and even dragging them backwards in some cases. We don't have anyone on defense with that ability right now. Edmunds even when in the right position often gets taken for a ride by the ball carrier. It's part of our overall defensive mindset - "giving up 6 yards is okay." But it isn't okay. Giving up 0 yards is the goal. I'd like our player evaluation to start matching that reality.
-
First play of the video I see him do something I've never seen Edmunds do - track a tipped ball and intercept it, and even have the wherewithal to keep moving forward after catching it. He looks slow so you're correct that we would need to change up our scheme to fit him in. But instincts can make up for speed. And I love his physicality. This defense has been missing size and brutality. It's all finesse. You need a couple guys on defense that the opposing players are scared of. The more I think about it the more I would love him in round 2 if he's still there.
-
It's time to change up our scheme anyways. We've done the same thing for six years with very little variation. That makes it way too easy for smart offensive coaches to take advantage. Last year we drafted a press man CB which was a nice variation that our coaches for some reason rused to utilize. If we draft a more traditional LB maybe that opens the door to call defensive plays that our opponents don't have six seasons worth of tape to dissect.

Bills sign S Zayne Anderson to a 2 year deal

How much are we paying him? -

Probably Jaquan Johnson's replacement. -
Dodson or Bernard are not good enough to replace him, no argument there. But we can pay a capable LB in free agency for a much lower salary than Edmunds will get.
-
I wouldn't hate it but it looked to me like he lost a step last year. He isn't explosive which is the biggest element our offense is missing. If we're going to trade for that style of WR I would prefer DeAndre Hopkins, and it's already been reported that he is in fact available for trade.

Trevon Diggs trying to get his brother in Dallas
HappyDays replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
I hear bits and pieces. Other people on the forum probably find out more than me. The story is that Allen missed a throw to Diggs in practice a couple times but told him don't worry he would hit it for real in the game. But he missed it. So Diggs blew up at him on the sideline and said "what's your excuse now, Josh?" I don't know anything beyond that. Someone else on here said Allen and Diggs got into a bit of a spat after the game, and it was reported that Diggs left the facility early. He's an emotional guy. Hates to lose. He needs to do a better job keeping his emotions in check though. There's a fine line between hating to lose and being a distraction. -

He isn't done. He is very frustrated with getting close and then losing. He went too far with Allen on the sidelines IMO. But he isn't demanding a trade or anything crazy like that. -

It was not reported. It is something I know to be true. You know the mic'd up footage that the Bills release after every game? Well, they don't release all the footage for obvious reasons, but that doesn't mean it isn't heard by certain people that work for the team. -
Anything is possible but it sounds like we have seen the end of Edmunds' career as a Bill. Which leaves more room to build the offense.

Jalen Hurts This Jalen Hurts That - 3 Rush TDs
HappyDays replied to Jerome007's topic in The Stadium Wall
You're saying this to a Chiefs fan that spends most of his time on a Bills board arguing about how much better his QB is. -
He is especially close with OBJ. OBJ invited him to the Super Bowl last year. They have more than just a professional relationship.
-
Diggs being middle of the pack in terms of separation is understandable given how much attention teams give to him. But what's Davis' excuse being just behind him? This is why we need OBJ or some other WR with true #2 capabilities. Oh and for people who like to say JuJu Smith-Schuster is no better than Davis, look at this chart. Despite being the #1 WR in KC which means he faces #1 CBs he is one of the best separators in the league. I'm kind of sick of people downplaying the talent that Mahomes had around him. Our OL and pass catching options by comparison are second rate. I hope Beane knows this.
-
And then he got an elite QB. We have an elite QB and nothing to show for it. Any gap between Mahomes and Allen is not so great that they should have seen that much more success than us the past few years. Since acquiring an elite QB, Andy Reid has led them to FIVE straight conference championships and THREE Super Bowl appearances with two wins. McDermott got us to one conference championship with three seasons of elite QB play and that was our ceiling.
-
What do you mean? Beane has always been a big spender in free agency. Mitch Morse John Brown Cole Beasley Trent Murphy Star Lotulelei That's just the first 5 that immediately come to mind. The issue in the past hasn't been Beane's unwillingness to spend in free agency, it's that his spending has been suboptimal especially on the defensive side. OBJ isn't going to command a massive contract. The same issues others have brought up - his age, his two ACL injuries - will limit his ceiling in free agency. But we have a glaring hole at WR #2 and two of his best friends in the building (Adam Henry and Von Miller). It makes sense for him as much as it does for us.
-
Why not both? We need to enter the draft knowing that we already have the #2 spot filled. Can't rely on a rookie to be better than Davis, it would be nice but no guarantees. Get OBJ here on a 2 year deal and also draft a WR high. Davis can be our #3/#4 and walk after 2023.
-
Sure we could. Let Edmunds walk, plus we have like $50 million in available restructures to create cap space. Give him a 3 year deal that's really a 2 year deal with a smaller cap hit in 2023. We could easily do that and still have room to sign a LB and at least one upgrade on the OL.
-
I hope these dots really do connect and we sign OBJ. It's a no brainer move. Push Davis back down the depth chart to the role he belongs in. Give us better run after catch ability, nothing crazy but better than what we have. Then draft a WR on day one or two to keep the pipeline going. I really hope this happens. It will tell me Beane recognizes his mistakes.
-
It's officially speculation season.
-
I've seen this narrative pop up everywhere but it's worth pointing out that their defensive linemen were constantly slipping on that weird grass field. A couple reps Hassan Reddick got pancaked by Andrew Wylie which should never happen. The Chiefs got lucky that the field mitigated the Eagles pass rush. A couple sacks throughout the game may have changed the outcome.

Don't think "WR2" in the upcoming draft. Think WR1.
HappyDays replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm not thinking about it in terms of WR1 of WR2. I'm thinking about it in terms of getting a skill set that we currently don't have on the roster. The less athletic route running specialists like Addison and JSN don't do it for me. That's what Diggs does for us. I want to take a swing at a WR with explosive traits. Someone that can out run everyone else on the field after catching the ball on short routes, or running to the ball on deep routes. To me that makes Jalin Hyatt the only WR that I'm interested in at pick 27, in fact I would pick him there pretty much no matter what. If he isn't there I would take the best OL available or trade down before selecting the best WR available. -
The people who believe that kind of crap are ghouls and contribute nothing to society. They're the kind of narcissistic people that bully families who lost kids in school shootings. There is no controversy.

Allen did exactly what you said he won't in 2020, when he had better pass protection and Cole Beasley and John Brown in their prime both with the ability to run after making short catches. An offense that only throws short passes to Diggs and Davis and McKenzie is destined to fail. An offense that lives and dies on deep passes with a poor OL is also destined to fail. So we had no good answers on offense. The only reason we consistently scored points is that Allen made magic happen enough times in every game. Get him an offense on par with what he had in 2020 and I'm sure he will run it the right away.
