  1. This article about DeGrom and a new contract may be behind a fee wall. Basically DeGrom's new agent is making the spring training rounds and the article is speculating on the opening day deadline to extend DeGrom. DeGrom is under control through next year so the deadline is inconsequential to me (a year from now will be a different story). https://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/jacob-degrom-contract-talks-mets-1.27597420 That connects to a theme Van Wagenen touched on during his first day as Mets GM: Rewarding good players for being good has benefits aside from money. Of all the Mets, deGrom — a home-grown, award-winning star and fan favorite — is a strong choice to turn that into more than just talk. “Provide our players with the support and resources they need to succeed,” Van Wagenen said in October. “When they do, recognize their performances and reward their performances. “This mindset creates a positive culture and positive work environment. As is true in all organizations, good culture yields the best results and increases the probability for success.”
  2. ? Snark aside, RIP Peter. Just now went to the top of the thread. Auntie Grizelda?!?!? Outstanding. My older sister had a few of the albums, we both watched the show and I had the Monkees Corgi car. Might still be at Mom's house for all I know. Fond memories.
  3. Or the other 4 could do a hologram tour.
  4. There's a joke to be made here about Dick Stands, but I'm shooting blanks on this one.
  5. Does BADOLBILZ seriously believe that his, yours or my opinion means jack-sh!t to anyone beyond this board? Are our opinions influencing the direction of the Bills in any way, shape or form? Perhaps the bad one is a season ticket holder. If so, his greatest (only?) weapon is to stay home next year.
  6. Yup, sounds like someone trying to create a story. Have to admit that it has more plausibility and/or human interest than a lot of other discussions being floated lately. If I was at a bar with my friends we might talk about this for a few minutes, nothing more. We'd probably spend more time debating whether the next pitcher should be Yuengling or Toasted Lager. The genius among us would have the Jaeger shots in front of us toasting Ciara's finer qualities before we could decide on the beer.
  7. If you're going the baseball route Mark "The Bird" Fidyrich is worth mentioning. For football, Robert Edwards should at least get mentioned.
  8. Machado to the Padres. Maybe that will give the Giants the incentive to go the extra mile and sign Harper. I'd love to see the Phillies come up empty on both.
  9. The AAF is the NFL? It's ridiculous that I didn't realize that sooner. obviously the lovely little bubble is about to burst.
  10. Jussie should play himself. It would give him a second chance to make it more believable.
  11. Mets are a physical away from signing ex-Yankee Adeiny Hechevarria to a minor league contract. That would give us a legit backup SS. VW has been pretty thorough attempting to address needs.
  12. If the Islanders make the playoffs only the first round games will be at the Nassau Coliseum. Any subsequent rounds would be at Barclays.
  13. Has Kid Rock been mentioned yet? Devil Without a Cause was great. "I'm like a dandelion Jack! You can cut me down and then I'll pop right back!"
  14. I think Randy and Odell are cut from the same me-first cloth. Randy Moss quit on the Raiders. That's why I drew the comparison. It wasn't until Moss went to the Patriots that he "got it" IMO.
  15. Feels like one of those three-D pictures that were popular a few years back where what you were looking at was an incoherent mess until it suddenly came into focus.
  16. It will be interesting to see if he ever gets his ring. The talent is undeniable. Reminds me of Randy Moss.
  17. Good question. I would have thought that a DC job for an organization with a wet behind the ears offensive minded HC and a history of patience with a defensive minded HC wouldn't be such a hard sell.
  18. The only thing OBJ has a passion for is OBJ. I have no idea what makes you think he would have knocked out Gronk. Has he ever stood up for a teammate? Maybe I missed it. I know he's repeatedly thrown his QB under the bus.
  19. The first car I ever bought new was a manual even though I had only driven automatics and neither of my parents had a manual since I was born. Dad drove it off the lot for me.
  20. You laid out some good points, but I'd be shocked if the Bills traded for OBJ. He seems more likely to be the straw that sucks the life out of a team. The guys douche-baggery is as immense as his talent.
  21. Two more notes and then I'll leave you guys alone until late March. I'm kicking myself for leaving Clark Gillies off the list of guys that played for the Islanders and Sabres. He was my favorite Islander during the Cup years. When Uwe Krupp was down here the newspapers ran stories when he'd run his sled dogs in the streets after a snow storm. Now go out and crush the Rangers tomorrow night. But watch out for Zibanejad, he's been hot as hell lately.
  22. Hey Blue, I get your point, but are you referring to Steve Garvey? Granted I was young, but I don't recall hm being a poor fielder at all. The knock on him was being a right handed first baseman. That Dodger infield with Lopes, Russell and the Penguin was completely solid (albeit not spectacular) across the board. Regardless, I was just relaying what I heard. I'll reserve judgement on Alonso until I actually see him play.
  23. Good call. It all started with Kevin Mitchell, the "bad influence" on Dwight and Darryl. For my teams it's: Mets: Tom Seaver Bills: O.J. Islanders: John Tavares (because it broke my kids heart)
  24. Not a good overall sign when my first thought was "Oh good, Dom didn't show up fat!" I'm not counting on him either, but as long as he's a Met I'll hope for the best. And that might mean boosting his value so we can get more in a trade. While we're on first baseman, yesterday I was listening to Mike Francesa on WFAN and he said someone he couldn't reveal told him that Alonso projects as a no-doubt, bonafide MLB power hitter but a butcher at first base. It's well known that Mike and Omar Minaya are good friends. Mike also likes to tweak the Mets every chance he gets so take it for what it's worth.
