  1. Seaver and Gibson are two absolute legends. I was too young to see them in the 60's but they were best of the best in the NL in the early to mid 70's
  2. Sadly, another baseball legend passed away today. Lou Brock was the gold standard for base stealers when I was growing up. In an odd coincidence, Brock had more at bats against Seaver than any other pitcher he faced: 157 at bats. And Brock was the player that Seaver faced the most as well.
  3. One correction - the commissioning of the statue was announced at the same time they renamed the address to Seaver Way. But agreed on the Dodgers stuff, that never made sense to me.
  4. Hall of Famer Deacon Jones.
  5. Yeah, hats off to whoever came up with the idea to honor #41 that way. Hopefully they'll have his statue ready for opening day next year (https://nypost.com/2020/09/03/mets-plan-to-unveil-tom-seaver-statue-for-2021-season/) And totally agreed on his dementia. I was probably more saddened by the announcement that he was stepping away from his public life due to dementia than I was by news of his passing.
  6. West bound ride through Texas The sun here really burns Open up and try and beat the heat It still don't do much good Kick back and endure it, a 100 miles ta go Take a break, get some shade Before we start up again 117 degrees, 117 117, so I'm told I don't know
  7. Mets players pay tribute to Seaver today with dirty right knees. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/29804025/mets-honor-tom-seaver-iconic-drop-drive-delivery-dirty-knees
  8. Right now on the front page of newsday.com the two headlines are almost side by side: SUNY Oneonta cancels in-person classes this fall Superintendents say their schools are safe to reopen I'll remain hopeful that local schools will have more success managing K-12 than colleges have, but I'll be surprised if K-12 aren't all back home by October.
  9. Congrats. Not sure how it went behind the scenes, but from the outside it was seamless.
  10. Just saw a headline that Tom Seaver passed away. Far and away the greatest Met of all time. I was fortunate enough to see him pitch live a few times in his prime and countless times on TV. RIP.
  11. I need a lover that won't drive me crazySome girl that knows the meaning of, ah-Hey hit the highway!
  12. I'm with either of those - and in particular I try my best to abide by the first - but some would perceive that dudes is inclusive. Horrors.
  13. As a Mets fan I'm equal parts cynical and optimistic: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/29762854/alex-rodriguez-group-withdraws-mets-offer-amid-report-steve-cohen-finalizing-deal
  14. Someone else posted this in a similar thread. It's amazing a song written in 1965 is still relevant in 2020
  15. Hope you and Shirls are maintaining proper social distance from your son, his sons and theirs. At your age you can't be too careful. And don't even think of getting close to Spags and his Covid-carrying Jersey Shore crew.
  16. Brodie gets caught blasting Manfred and then backtracks and puts it on Jeff Wilpon. Maybe we won't have to wait until the sale to be rid of him. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/29755297/brodie-van-wagenen-critical-rob-manfred-walkout-proposal-just-get-it
  17. LOL, I was just about to post This Is The End. I think a subliminal synapse fired when I saw your Apocalypse post so I went looking for a youtube link and when I came back to post the another synapse fired reminding me that the opening scene of Apocalypse was This Is The End. Anyway, nice call.
  18. I'm more interested in the sale of the team than the results on the field right now. My assumption is Brodie wouldn't survive a transfer of ownership.
  19. It blowed up good, it blowed up real good. Reminds me of the story of a dead whale being transported through the streets of Taiwan that spontaneously combusted. https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1078252/sperm-whale-exploded-in-street-taiwan
  20. We recently got rid of a large entertainment center. It was probably 6 feet tall and too much for me and the family to move. Had a furniture delivery and threw the guys a few bucks to take it to the street. It was gone within an two hours - and I don't live on a busy street.
  21. I'm a fool to do your dirty work Oh yeah
  22. My mama told me, "You better shop around"
