  1. The Powers that Be over the past 200+ years: Black people count as three fifths of a person; enslaving black people is perfectly legal; okay slavery is not legal but black people can't live in white neighborhoods; separate but equal; black people can't vote; okay black people can vote but good luck getting to a polling place; black people can't marry white people; black children can't go to school with white children; okay black children can go to school with white children, but we're going to make it very hard to live in white school districts; what's with these black people, why do they live in these horrible neighborhoods; we need stricter policing; etc., etc., etc. Black America: Black Lives Matter; Give Us True Equality! The Powers that Be: Stop being so divisive!!
  2. Follow the link in the initial post to hear the black national anthem. The black nation (which is a figurative expression) is our fellow citizens of color.
  3. That might have been appropriate if whites had been enslaved for centuries, and then disenfranchised, lynched, subjected to Jim Crow, subjected to segregation, ghettoized, and discriminated against systematically for the next 150+ years. It could also be argued that the National Anthem in a sense is kind of a white anthem, since it was written to celebrate a country ruled by whites at a time when slavery was completely legal.
  4. It seems completely appropriate to me. People across the country are collectively recognizing the centuries-old problem of racial inequity and taking actions to address it. Seventy percent of NFL players are black. Playing the black national anthem before the first game of this NFL season is a fitting way to acknowledge the problem. And advocating for greater equality is completely patriotic.
  5. If you see it as an issue between the employer and the employees, then you should have no problem. Here's what the Pegulas had to say when Bills players kneeled: "Our players have the freedom to express themselves in a respectful and thoughtful manner and we all agreed that our sole message is to provide and to promote an environment that is focused on love and equality." https://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/sports/2017/09/24/buffalo-bills-donald-trump-remarks-nfl-reaction/697856001/
  6. Does Buffalo include Orchard Park? Either way, yes.
  7. I shudder to think what I might have done if someone had handed me 10+ million dollars when I was 22.
  8. It all depends on what his off-season goals are.
  9. I think the problem is that Josh Allen is generally ranked much higher in quarterback ratings. Comparing Josh to the bottom of the heap is insulting.
  10. I'm good with OJ being up there in this context. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson enslaved countless human beings, and they both undoubtedly had many of those human beings worked to death. Nonetheless, they made the real Mount Rushmore, which focuses narrowly on their accomplishments as presidents. I think OJ's accomplishments as a Buffalo Bill secure his place on the Bill's Mount Rushmore. Unless, of course we wanted to do an upgrade on our Mount . . . .
  11. Thanks for the thoughtful breakdown -- more than we usually get from mainstream reporting.
  12. Doug Marrone is staying in Jacksonville according to CBS Sports. Jaguars website confirms that Marrone will stay for at least one more year.
  13. Great article, but already posted below.
  14. Even more shocking are the ears of the guy on the left .
  15. Duke Williams. Very close in height and weight, fast and elusive. Plus, he isn't doing anything else right now.
  16. Sports Illustrated MMQB features an article about "Takeaways From the NFL on Thanksgiving." Josh Allen and the Bills are each referenced once in the subhead, but the body of the article makes no mention of any Bills player, and the only reference to the team is one use of the words "the Bills" is in a link to the game stats. https://www.si.com/nfl/2019/11/29/nfl-thanksgiving-day-games-bears-lions-bills-cowboys-saints-falcons
  17. Josh is more Jekyll. His true identity is an enormously-talented, hard-working young quarterback and team leader. He definitely has his Hyde moments, but they are the aberration. In fact, he's much better than Jekyll. Jekyll drank his potion with the specific intention of getting his Hyde on. Josh is working very hard to tame is Hyde.
  18. I young man making a foolish decision at the urging of a crowd, and another crowd here mostly crowing about what may be a very serious injury. Both very disturbing and sad.
  19. Our old helmet was too passive. Our current helmet is leading with its head. Maybe an upright buffalo in pass protection mode?
  20. True, but you also have to consider what the O-line is facing. The Patriots understood Josh Allen's weakness and tendencies, and so they brought some heavy blitzing. A quarterback proficient at making quick reads would have been able to exploit this.
  21. CBS Sports ranks Bills at 10 as well. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-week-3-power-rankings-cowboys-climb-into-the-top-five-steelers-tumble-after-losing-ben-roethlisberger/
  22. Agreed, but they have one of the best defenses in the league. Hard to square that with the fourth worst roster in the NFL.
  23. This is the process. Keep working, even a the margins, looking for ways to improve. Doing something versus doing nothing.
  24. This one's on the coaching staff. Yes, Allen's a rookie, but they should have been working on the triple scramble, 40-yard, cross-body, cross field throw a bit more.
  25. I'm pretty sure that won't work. I lived in Europe, and my game pass account was different from the one I use in the U.S. Also, game pass would recognize if I signed onto my Europe account while in the U.S., and would deny access to live streaming. I'm pretty sure game pass will see it's a U.S. account, and will provide the access granted in the U.S. or deny access all together. On a side note, I found that if I used a VPN and routed my Internet through a European country, I could watch live games on my Europe account while in the U.S. I was surprised the NFL hadn't closed that loophole.
