I honestly can't stand this bend but don't break defense. But, what was the guy supposed to do against a top flight offense with little or no pass rush...no matter how much you rotate the players. The secondary was also weak without Hyde and so many subs in at CB, safety. Starting a rookie CB and an injured Safety in Poyer. Injuries and inexperience killed this defense this season...and coaching. Who would have thought that ken Dorsey would end up running the ball less than Daboll...who some of us were complaining in previous years that he didn't run enough and change was needed. I just don't get why any OC who sees that his QB isn't getting it done at the time refuses to change things up to help out the QB. It's like Daboll never left and we saw the 2018 version all over again. Only 19 rushes for 64 yards against Cincy and Josh had 8 of those. So, the Bills RBs saw 11 rush attempts all game. Singletary was getting 2.5 yards before contact and Cook 1.6...which means the Buffalo O line was getting owned. Still, end arounds, misdirection, screens, toss sweeps to make those D linemen run sideline to sideline to wear them out. Just keep throwing, just keep throwing...and keep the pressure on the QB.

Looking at our options to rebuild the o-line in 2023
Nihilarian replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
According to PFF, the Bills ended up having the 23rd best offensive line in the NFL last season. Not the best finish, and it’s not the best look considering the year prior. Buffalo dropped two spots from their final rating at No. 21 at the end of the 2021 season. https://billswire.usatoday.com/2023/02/02/pro-football-focus-buffalo-bills-offensive-line-rankings-dion-dawkins-mitch-morse/ The counter argument is that this move would leave the right guard spot open next to another struggling offensive lineman in second-year right tackle Spencer Brown. Brown was neck-and-neck with Saffold in pressures allowed in 2022 (Brown had 29) and gave up a whopping nine quarterback hits — most on the team by over double, despite only playing in 14 games. Putting a new face next to him in what will be a pivotal year might not be the best thing for his development. https://www.buffalorumblings.com/2023/2/2/23582156/buffalo-bills-2023-offseason-team-needs-guard-rodger-saffold-ryan-bates The Bills need to go all out in rebuilding that O line...whatever it takes! -
Dust has settled...Alphas look at what lies ahead

Some Bills fans complaining about not reaching the SB. Yet, this team just went went 13-3 this season!! In McD's six seasons as Buffalo Bills HC this team has been to the playoffs 5 of those 6 years. (Once with Tyrod Taylor at QB!) 9-7, 6-10, 13-3, 11-6, 13-3. McD is considered one of the best head coaches in the NFL. Bills GM Brandon Beane is considered by some to be the very best of the best in NFL GM's. Yet, I read over and over how some Bills fans want them both gone or replaced? By who? Chiefs HC Andy Reid is the biggest reason the Chiefs seem to always have a shot. In the ten years he has been there they have never had a losing season and have been in the playoffs nine of those ten seasons. Five of those seasons were with Alex Smith at QB. Reid is an offensive genius, won a SB and yet was smoked in the next SB by a swarming Buc's defense. With the Chiefs, the players change and the winning continues. Buffalo HC seems to be locked into Leslie Frazier's bend but don't break defense. Somehow whomever this team hires as an OC can't seem to build a decent ground game without involving the QB as the leading rusher. So, I'm not happy with either of the Buffalo Bills coordinators at this point. Although, let's look at what the offenses / defenses have looked like the last few seasons. 2023, record 13-3 AFC East Champs 2023, offense #2 in points for, #2 in yards. 8th in passing attempts, 7th in passing yards, #2 in passing TDs. #15th in rush attempts,7th in rush yards, 15th in rush TDs. 2023, defense #2 in points allowed, #6 in yards allowed. 2022 record 11-6 AFC East Champs 2022, offense #3 in points, #5 in yards. QB Josh Allen playing perfect games in the playoffs! 2022, defense #1 in points allowed, #1 in yards allowed. 2021 record 13-3 AFC East Champs 2020, offense #2 in points, #2 in yards. 2020, defense #16 in points allowed, #14 in yards allowed 2019 record 10-6 AFC East Champs 2019, offense #23 in points, #24 in yards 2019, defense #2 in points allowed, #4 in yards allowed Considering the trials this team endured this season. So many injuries to key players on defense and offense. Josh with a bad elbow. The deadly Blizzard that caused so many problems besides needing to play a home game at Detroit. Cardiac arrest on the field where a Buffalo player nearly died. The Bills losing their star pass rusher for the season. Yeah, i can see where the emotions were drained at the end of the season. Amazing stuff dealing with all that and more. Now, consider that Andy Reid didn't get his Chiefs to the SB until his 7th season. I'd say Bills fans should give these Buffalo Bills coaches / GM some more time to do their jobs. I kind of think that they feel the losses just as badly as Bills fans do and perhaps even more because they see it in the players faces. After nearly two decades of being of missing the playoffs and being at the bottom or near last in the division... I know I'm ready to sit back and let Beane do his magic with the draft and free agency. Let McD get his team ready for 2023. All I want for the new season is a better offensive line, an actual dominant run game like the 49ers, Eagles have. If I could do one thing...it might be to hire ex Ravens OC Greg Roman to be the new Buffalo run game coordinator to help build that O line and run game. Or someone else to help keep Josh in the pocket and let the RBs take the pounding. (yea, I know Josh hurt his elbow in the pocket) So, build him a better pocket! JMHO -
What Are Your Expectations For The 2023 Season?
Nihilarian replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Bills were outcoached and out played by the Bengals at HOME in their last game. No excuses, 27-10 was a beatdown by a team that showed big holes in the Bills O line, D line and secondary. The team was "Gassed"...for the most important home game in years? Buffalo with almost no run game, 11 rushes for 38 yards by Bills RB's. Josh had 8 for 26 with a total for 19 rushes for 64 yards. A 3.4 YPC AVG. Far, far too much pressure on the Buffalo QB to make the offense work. Look at Tom Brady (the GOAT) in his last game with little or no run game and a crappy O line...look familiar? Even his super fast release didn't save him. Now, the Dolphins got better with their new DC hire. The Patriots got better with their new OC hire. The Jets might have gotten worse with their new OC hire...unless it draws Aaron Rodgers to them. All three division rivals have lesser QB's ATM. Now these teams have learned that the more pressure on Allen while containing him is their way to beat Buffalo. The Dolphins almost beat Buffalo with a backup to the backup to the backup QB. 31-34 with 7th round pick Skylar Thompson. Both the Eagles and 49ers showed that you can win with a tough nosed run game and defense as long as you have a somewhat decent QB. Buffalo has IMO the very best QB in the league and yet demand from him more then he can handle at times. We all saw what Josh can do at the end of 2022 with a somewhat decent run attack and O line protecting him, unstoppable! Beane needs to go all out to building that Buffalo offensive line into a top unit. Suddenly they might find that the WR's, TE's, RB's on the roster are good enough. Give the best QB in the league better protection and build a decent ground game so he doesn't need to carry the team all the time. Gonna be a long season if Buffalo doesn't greatly upgrade that line. -
Franchise in trouble- Josh Allen has regressed
Nihilarian replied to RoscoeParrish's topic in The Stadium Wall
This! Look at Tom Brady (you know, the goat!) this season with no run game and a bad O line...look familiar? Look at Josh Allen last season when the line played so much better and in fact was so good that Beane kept a lot of those line players. Now, they regressed! Josh was the leading rusher (again) in that game and without his yards the Buffalo RBs had only 11 carries for 38 yards! Total 19 rushes for 64 yards. Also, Josh was under heavy pass rush pressure all game long. Go back to last years playoff run where the O line played much better and the Bills actually had a run game, Josh was basically unstoppable. Buffalo needs to rebuild that O line above all else! JMHO -
Again, I have no idea what you are taking about? This years Buffalo Bills went 14-4. If anything they were outcoached on both sides of the ball against Cincy. One guy is a rookie and the other caused the 13 seconds. The GM doesn't coach the team. This team has enough talent to get to and win a SB, IMHO.
-
That guy won ONE SB in 15 years in NO and had a future HoF QB in Drew Brees the entire time. 7 playoff losses, 5 losing seasons. McD is better...he went to the playoffs with Tyrod Taylor at QB. The Bills were outcoached against the Bengals on both sides of the ball. One guy is a rookie and the other caused the 13 seconds. The Buffalo Bills currently have one of the very best HC's in the league. Not many could have overcome the adversity this team has endured the last few months. Heart attack on the field. Snow storm that causes the team to play a home game in a different city. The players needed to be dug out to even get to the airport. Snow so bad they couldn't return home. Injuries to so many players this season. McD should be coach of the year!
-
Brees was about the most accurate passing QBs ever! He spent 5 seasons in San Diego and took them to an 11-4 record in 2004. 10-6 in 2006. Passed for over 3000 yards in 3 of his 5 years at SD. The Chargers were a run first team under Marty Schottenheimer back then. LT! Ex Buffalo Bills director of pro personnel, AJ Smith drafted Eli Manning who refused to play in SD so they traded with the NY Giants for Phillip Rivers who they drafted #1. AJ Smith wanted Rivers to be the starting QB. Besides, Brees suffered a serious shoulder injury. Both NO and Miami were interested. NO gave Brees 10 mill guaranteed, a 6 year 60 million dollar deal. Dolphins HC was Nick Saban who went on to say he really, really regretted choosing Daunte Culpepper over Brees. As Bills fan I'm extremely happy Brees hurt his shoulder and he did not become a Miami Dolphin. I put Sean Payton in the Mike Tomlin category in that he was always in the playoffs with Big Ben at QB. Whatever team he chooses will need to have a top QB. Lastly, You know who else didn't have top arm strength and was also very, very accurate. Yea, Joe Montana.
-
Nothing you said validates anything! Are you really a Bills fan? Brandon Beane is considered one of the very best GM's in the league! Actually, best of the best. https://www.si.com/nfl/bills/news/buffalo-gm-brandon-beane-rank-best Von Miller, 7 of the 8 draft picks this season played at some point. Gabe Davis was a 4th, Bass was a 6th and so on. The team is loaded with talent. Coaching matters! Buffalo was outcoached on both sides of the ball. One guy is a rookie. Speaking of trash...
-
What is with Bills fans today? Sean Payton was the HC of the NO Saints for 15 seasons. Won ONE SB in all that time with future HoF QB Drew Brees at QB. Out of the 15 seasons went to the playoffs 9 times and lost Conf, WC, Div, Div, Div, Conf, WC, Div. He had 5 losing season in that time too. I don't see a great savior! No way is he worth a #1 pick and 20 mill per. Not to this team as they already have a better HC.
-
Building a super bowl team doesn't usually happen over night especially when the team has been in mediocrity for 20 years. Never bad enough to get a top 5 pick and when they trade up for one... they choose a paper WR who looks at the field and gets an injury. The list of guys who were drafted that year in the first round... good lord 17 first round picks ended up being better picks. Remember that crappy GM? Brandon Beane has been a godsend for Buffalo and so has McD. The guy who went to the playoffs with Tyrod Taylor at QB. I'm not happy either...I just realize that replacing Beane and McD would be a whole lot more difficult than just wishing it. How many teams went 14-4 this season? There would be about a 2 second delay in firing one of those two guys and them being instantly rehired. As for the HC either Denver, Carolina, Houston, Arizona, Indy.
-
What are you talking about? Beane traded away RB Moss to a guy who ran back two kickoffs for two TD's in one game. Look again at this years draft class. Coaching lost this game, one is a rookie play caller. The only thing I have to say about the coaching staff. The 49ers showed Buffalo how to beat the Dolphins and yet almost lost to the 3rd string backup QB because they have to do things their way.
-
Another year? Are you serious? 14-4 in 2022! You don't remember what it was like being a Buffalo fan previous to McD, Beane? These are the best two since Marv and Polian. Let's not forget that those Bills were horrid previous to being hired and thus were able to draft HoFers Bruce Smith, Jim Kelly among others. Also, as good at that K-gun offense was, they ran the ball with Thurman more then they passed most of those glory years. This game showed the flaws, lousy Bflo O line and hardly any run game...Josh Allen the leading rusher...again! Allen trying to press all game. (Bills D line got no pressure despite 3 lost starters.) Allen only sacked once and yet hit 8 times and countless pressures. Lastly, OC Ken Dorsey is a rookie this year. Recall what Daboll looked like his first season in Buffalo?
-
I also hope so! There has only been one perfect team the entire history of the NFL, 72 Dolphins. The 85 Bears lost to Miami in that season. The 2000 Ravens lost to Miami, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Washington. This season the 49ers also lost to crappy Atlanta & Denver, also KC. It's not what teams do at the start of the season...it's how it ends! Anyway, look how the goat QB ended his season. No matter how great a QB is...they need a strong supporting cast. Buffalo needs a strong run game, no question.
-
This! The crying and whining from Bills fans is almost getting to biblical proportions. Overreactions while not thinking clearly. They seem to forget WRex Ryan, Doug Maroon, Chan Gaily, Skeletor and so many others since Marv...so many coaches, QBs, draft picks...and top ten draft picks that went nowhere! 20 years man, 20 years! Alas, there is a real reason as to why Daboll is now a HC and Frazier is not. Did he even get any interviews? Coaching does matter! OTOH, the Bills have a rookie OC. Can anyone recall how Daboll looked his first season in Buffalo? Lastly, I look at the 49ers with envious eyes...their run game, defense that help a rookie QB look so good.
-
As much as I would love the Buffalo Bills to field the NFLs best offensive line. Having Josh Allen at QB has proven that hasn't been a necessity. I even dislike mentioning it...however, age, injuries often catch up with all elite athletes...eventually. I agree that the Buffalo Bills should be building the very best offensive line this offseason just to prepare for that eventuality. Build that run game to control the game/clock...which will simply allow Josh Allen to be more dominant with the passing game. Last season's playoff push has shown what Josh Allen can do when given time in the pocket to throw...unstoppable! It was that "prevent" defense that killed them in KC. Balance though...Defense does win Championships. Of the 110 teams to reach the SB, 88 of them fielded a top 10 in scoring. Of the 55 SB champs, 48 had a top 10 scoring defense.
-
Surprising how many Buffalo receivers can't catch from such a noodle armed QB... Yet, Buffalo #1 with 25, Miami #2 with 25, Tampa Bay with 25. Green Bay with 25, Jacksonville with 24. WHAT! The KC Chiefs with 23 drops! http://hosted.stats.com/fb/tmleaders.asp?type=Receiving&range=NFL&rank=232 * Gabe Davis, 71 targets, 38 rec. a 53.5 catch percentage. Both Diggs, Davis have dropped 6 passes each this season

Good stuff! I'm thinking that the Bills took a long hard look at that 3rd down production against the NY Jets...2-13! Buffalo had only 11 first downs all game and 3 came from penalties. Josh Allen passing, 16 of 27 for 130 yards all game? Not the first quarter, not the first half? 130 yards the entire game! And some fans complaining about bringing back Bease, Mr. first down... -

Let's face it...the guy was getting beaten down every game. He would find a way to get open, catch the ball and get pounded for it. Should be fresh and ready to go if he kept in shape. Bease with a 73.2% catch percentage in 2021. The only one better ATM is Knox at 74%. Shakir is at 47.1, Gabe Davis 53.5%. -

Good news if true! Bills offense needs that first down maker!
