  1. I've said it in other threads but ALL I want is top 5 in TO, top 10 in Red Zone TD %, and top 10 3rd down %. I don't care what you do in completion %, YPA, Yards, QBR. If you hit those metrics you are going to win a lot of games. It might be ugly but it will be a lot (I know some of those are team stats).
  2. I want someone who doesn't lose games. Don't turn it over, score TDs in the red zone, stay on the field on 3rd down. As the hoodie said 90% of the games in the NFL are lost not won. I would rather have someone beat us from time to time then to throw away games because of turnovers. Its not exciting but its efficient.
  3. As bandit has said. We needed one; we didnt just want one. Why we needed one is a different story and outrage is understandable. But not taking EJ means starting the year with Tuel or Jackson.
  4. I agree with him. All those things are debateable. The one I want back from TT is the pass to Woods. His non-throw away was so similar to the one to Woods that I'm ok with it. The other points are in a perfect world type of things. Considering our 2 min drill of late I'll take how well it did run.
  5. You're right its not all him but he is very important. He threw 2 and pitched the other on an option this weekend. I will also be interested to see if he can win when the run game gets shut down. But it hasn't been shut down since weve switched OC's. Teams are still stacking the box, and I actually wonder what it'll take to stop the run. When it does happen I sorta expect the passing to be so easy he can't screw it up. It'll be interesting when that happens but so far hes checking most of the boxes for me.
  6. I get that. I would classify Championship quality as low TO, high RZ%, and high 3rd%. He's checking two of three. The yards and other stats are system based in my opinion. If he can get the team to top 10 3rd% while keeping TO top 5 and RZ% top 10 we will win a LOT of games (probably at least one in the playoffs but we WILL be in the playoffs).
  7. I can understand your take, but as I mentioned above. If he continues with an improved RD% and keeps the TO's low, I will be content with his performance. I would like to see his 3rd % a bit higher but that stat for our last 3 games is right in line with last year. We have started games the last two games out very well in on 3rd down but faltered in the second half. I can understand some of the concern because of the poor 3rd % in the 2nd half, but as I said those other two stats together are more important in my opinion. If he regresses in one of these (RD% and TO) while still struggling at 3rd%, then we can talk again. I don't think people understand how difficult game managers are to find. Alex Smith's cap hit is right where TT's would be next year (assuming I understand the contract right).
  8. They had us at 32!!!!! Thats just silly. What a stupid big swing. You're the worst; nah, you're better than average.
  9. This is now the same thread as the other. So I'll repost Some thoughts. It's very hard to know the true TT because we went on a 3 game winning streak as soon as the OC was fired. Hard to make any conclusions with that in the data. However just some general notes He/we have Improved at Turnovers, Red Zone TD %, sacks, QBR. He/we have slightly regressed at completion %, 3rd down %, Passing Yards, Yards per. Considering we have a very weak WR core, and considering that those first two stats (TO, RZ%) are more correlated with success, I am happy with TT. I am slightly concerned with the 3rd down % but I think its related to the WR at the moment (drops and not getting as open). He has definitely missed some opportunities which is slightly concerning. Yards really need not be mentioned with TT. Its opportunities missed (3rd % mostly). Lastly he is soooo cheap this year, but if he continues this trend I pick up the option. I will continue to measure Tyrod by Turnovers, RD %, 3rd %. So far he's 2 for 3.

  11. You didn't say you didn't like his drafting which is fair. So I will concede a bit his big FA signings have not been great. But as you noted there are not a lot on defense. I think I see your point now on that. The two from this year were good gets but its ultimately not as big of a sample size on defense.
  12. Thats is elite company IMO. It was from the offseason but I think its impressive.
  13. But thats not true. We saw his numbers relative to his age. He has performed well for a young player. OBJ is old and now looking like hes becoming a TEAM liability. If were gonna play the guys they could've gotten game were gonna be here all day and every GM is gonna look awful. It was a risky move to get someone who was considered the best in a deep WR class. Barring injuries the kid's gonna be playing for a long time.
  14. Lot to point out that I disagree with. Just to start on you D stat, does whaley not get credit for his good defensive draft picks (Darby and Brown?) and his FA signings look good (Hughes, Brown, Alexander). We havent even seen this years players so we will need wait but I assume at least one will be pretty good. As has been stated before, that list of FA signings looks like an average FA class for a GM. It could be a great one if TT pans out. Arguably TT has already shown great investment and at this point he is developing and is now in the coach's hands. All the Byrd stuff is speculation to me. I think the team's record with Whaley says what he is, an average but trending up GM (I'm starting from his first full offseason).
  15. Our numbers in these categories from 2014 was insane. I think top 3 IIRC for both (might've been higher)
  16. The idea of it from a no huddle/hurry up is interesting. Particularly if you get a favorable defensive set out there like a nickel against 12 personnel.
  17. Retort is who did we lose? Hogan/Felton/Gragg/Karlos? Either way its 10 of 11 starters returning. All the starters have another year in the system; thus should be better.
  18. He did say startling. But I also don't understand how depth will matter that much in Game 1 of the season. I guess that poster extrapolated to the whole season.
  19. I had a decent stream with the nfl live streams sub group on reddit for the Indy game. I am going to try that again
  20. I'd have to read the links but your quotes have some holes to me. The first quote only talks about starts. That is not the only metric to gauge value and may not even be close to the best. Might be that those early picks are hit or miss, but the hit is big enough that its worth the risk. The second quote talks about the best player in the draft. Again I don't think thats a great metric. Do you need to get the best player in the top 5 (how do they even evaluate, guess I should read) or just one of the top 5 in that draft? The value assessments on Sammy that you make can not be made in a vacuum. There is no way of know if any of those guys would put up Sammy's numbers if here. If they couldn't put up half his numbers then would Sammy be worth it? I find balance to be important and while more often then not getting draft picks is a good idea, there are plenty of reasons to move up (I think Sammy was a good one).
  21. Thanks for the clarification. I think its tough for the fans to know how the game plan might change for different OL. I don't think its crazy to think they could roll a safety into the box against a good lineman or give more run support from the ILBs. These seem small but ability of Smith (to keep the example) to pancake his guy in run support may open up things over the middle if the ILB needs to be run support. Again would love to see if theres any work on this.
  22. I thought Kirby's point (and would love to know if I'm wrong) is that because OL and other postions (ILB, iDL) doesn't take over games, then they should not be chosen early in the draft (first 15). I am trying to say that just because the OL doesn't score that TD doesn't mean that they don't have a profound impact on the game (particularly in the rush game). I would think the run support to the defense's right would change considerably. That does change pass rush/coverage responsibilities of the ILBs. Its subtle which could make it hard to see but I think its there. This all sounds like a thing that cover1.net would do. BTW shout out to their great work in an entirely different thread.
  23. I'd have to go to the tape, but I thought it was more than just double or triple team. I thought we pulled and pinned him along with other strategies to use his aggressiveness against him. We also ran away from him. I think maybe the difference is the idea that OL don't just pass block. Yes pass blocking is much more of unit operation, but run blocking is much less of a unit operation. If Smith wins a run block at the point of attack then you're likely to get good yardage. They can easily be (and is) diagnosed at the LOS.
  24. I'm hearing the points on drafting OL in the 1st round, but I'm still on the fence. The Watt example doesn't seem that great. Didn't we do a great job of game planning around him last year? Effectively neutralizing him even though he lined up on our offenses right alot. I think to some degree you do need to game plan for a great OL. I know last year it wasn't a big deal for the Cowboys, but two years ago I'm sure there were game plans on creating pressure on Romo and how to plug holes against Murray. I understand you can't move Tyron Smith to match up with Watt, but you can audible into a play behind Smith if hes going to pancake the DE on his side. It might only be 4-5 yards but thats a pretty good clip. Like most things in life I find this to be a balance issue. You can't neglect your OL/DL or just assume it'll be schemed away (I would have big concerns if IK lined up against Smith all game).
