SI.com proposal for a 22-week NFL season
D. L. Hot-Flamethrower replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't have any problem with adding SOME byes if it helps the players recovery and the quality of ball played. I'm not sure going from 1 to 6 is reasonably going to fly. The weather in January and February is a huge issue with not all teams up north having built domed stadiums. I hate the pro bowl idea, wish the darn thing would just go away forever. -

Seconded. Truly laughable post. Sully the pulitzer prize winning writer. -
In your mind maybe, don't speak for everyone else or anything. Usual crap article, they always go to BILL BELiCHICK wouldn't do that. I can't believe the freakin' freakout by people this week about this stuff. It seems like the crowd on one-side is flipping out that the season is doomed, and the negative crowd on the other, is using the news to attack Whaley and the organization per usual. Get a grip everybody, don't go to the lowest common denominator. There is no reason to believe Watkins is a problem. And, Lawson was going to be a rookie anyway. He'll get fixed, that's what football players do, and give us a lift in the second half perhaps. Is that what should do panic or attack when things happen.

SI.com: Is Tyrod Taylor a One-Year Wonder?
D. L. Hot-Flamethrower replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Some on here want a 16-0 record with our defense from last year. Oh and 6 or 7 4th Qtr comebacks would be nice. Did I mention several 400 yard games! That's the standard of some on here. -
I'm not sure why you use only TDs and believe it to be sufficient. Of course Dalton will have greater counting stats, his TEAM throws the ball a lot more. Passer Rating (last 5 years) Dalton 80,87,88,83,106 Smith 91,104,89,93,95 Smith has been a more efficient passer 4 of the last 5 years. You seem to be a fan of QB record. I think it is a TEAM game and that the players and pro bowlers around you make a difference. But, to use your logic, Let's not anoint Dalton a SB QB until he improves his 0-4 playoff record. Smith has an average annual salary of 17M and Dalton 16M. I think they are at least in the same neighborhood as players and it is not a lazy comparison. Don't bring a knife to a gunfight. As for your view of Taylor, of course those guys have accomplished more than Taylor who has 14 career starts. In my view, a certain amount of forecasting is required in serious analysis about who you would want as your QB for 2016. Otherwise, just line them up from top to bottom with their counting stats. Peyton is still #1. Look bud, I can take the average stats for Taylor and Dalton per start for their careers, and they are nearly identical. Yards per game, TDs etc. No, Taylor hasn't been to the playoffs 5x I'll give you that. That's kind of hard to do when you've started 14 games. Taylor obviously is a vastly superior runner and deep thrower. You want to go all career stats and team W/L for your guy- that's fine. That's your prerogative. I'm saying I wouldn't trade Taylor even up for either one of those guys (Dalton or Smith) for this coming season 2016. Paying those guys 16-17 million compared to what TT is being paid is also another factor to consider. You say you like guys to win games with their passing, and that we struggled to get 150 yards. (queue garbage time argument) But, Dalton has thrown for 18,000 yards in 77 starts for 233/game and Taylor in 14 starts has 230/gm. If you throw in a 40 yard difference in legs between them, and more Pro Bowlers for the Bengals. It is not crazy or lazy to say you want Taylor going forward. Yes, he needs to improve his passing into the middle and lead his team on a couple 4QC. The good thing he has the POTENTIAL to accomplish those things. He is younger, a better athlete, throws a better deep ball and I wouldn't trade him for Dalton. IMHO

Actually what people inside or outside of Buffalo think is irrelevant to me. There is a plausible argument to be made that he will be better to have than either this year. Which to me is the most important thing! I for one don't believe there is a lot of room for growth with either one of those guys, Taylor is different. He has potential to improve an awful lot this year IMO. Remember, Palmer couldn't get a job not so long ago, and is what 38 years old. I'm just not a Dalton guy, he's Alex Smith to me at best. Those guys will always come up short due to a lack of talent getting the ball down field. JMO

The caller, George also indicated it would be closer to 6 months. I'm starting to think we will be lucky to have him very much this season. Curious move for a staff supposedly on the hot seat.

So far Tyrod has been ranked anywhere from 11 to 30 LOL. But, if you throw out the high and low, you get 14 to 22. Which when you actually do the exercise, is pretty fair. You could have him the high end 14-18, more optimistic; or the low end 19-22, more pessimistic. Last year Denver won with Peyton perhaps being somewhere between 25-32 and an excellent defense. How much does TT need to improve to take us into the playoffs, given our current defense? I would argue that he has at least as much help on offense, and that our defense needs to be a top 10 defense at his current performance level to get us there.

Guys who the consensus has to low for me going forward: R.Wilson-seems to be out of the top 5 by most, I think he is top 5 for sure Romo- I get the injury thing, but wouldn't it just be like him to have an MVP season with that offense Bortles- he should be in a group with Taylor, Mariota, Winston, Carr and perhaps Bilgewater Guys too high for me: Palmer-He's put up great numbers as Ariens guy in a very friendly system, not so long ago he couldn't play Cutler- the guy is the epitome of a guy who will always disappoint in spite of talent Cousins- I'm not getting all the love for him, why is he ranked above the young guys group? really you'd rather have him this year?

Brady, Rogers should move up to 1-2. Tyrod is fair at 14, I have him at 11. I think Cousins is too high etc. Enjoy. I welcome your thoughts. It is the off season, and we need to discuss these matter seriously. My personal list. 1 Brady 2 Rogers 3 Newton 4 Wilson 5 Roethlisberger 6 Romo 7 Luck 8 E.Manning 9 Brees 10 Rivers 11 Taylor 12 Palmer 13 Dalton 14 Stafford 15 Bortles 16 Ryan 17 Flacco 18 A.Smith 19 Cousins 20 Carr 21 Winston 22 Mariota 23 Bridgewater 24 Tannehill 25 Osweiler 26 Kapernick 27 Cutler 28 Bradford 29 Griffin 30 G.Smith 31 Sanchez 32 Goff

Boy, Joe Ferguson should sounds like a "franchise" QB in this video. And, he was IMHO. -
Joe Ferguson was a pretty darn good QB! Not sure how you define "Franchise", but the guy had passing stats that were above avg for the time. He led the league in TDs passes in'75 and took the team to the playoffs 3-4 times. And, he started 180 games in the league. Better than some on here are giving him credit for.
