Not all that bad if Shaddy goes
Kirby Jackson replied to Niagara Dude's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
...the day before her eviction hearing. There is absolutely as much evidence (at this point) that it was her doing and not his. It would be naive to think that it is anything but one or the other but you’d have to be an idiot to not see the motivation of each side. -

For me it isn’t so much about changing styles as it is changing the age group. You can win in the NFL on the ground or in the air or both. Pittsburgh, New Orleans, Rams, etc... all win with a balanced attack. By the time that the Bills are ready to compete (another year or 2) Shady will be ancient by RB standards. He has held off Father Time so far but for how much longer? Get a young dynamic back next year to grow with Allen & co. They aren’t better without Shady. No team is better when you take away their best player. -

Maybe a slight upgrade at this point but neither is a needle mover. They are both depth guys. I’d rather have 2 “depth” type guys though that are at least NFL backs. Carson is intriguing as well. I don’t see the Bills trading more than a 6th for a RB and a 7th. Guys like Ware/West fall in that tier. If the Bills want to get a little more aggressive they should take a shot at Tevin Coleman. He’s entering FA and doubt that he gets paid after that Freeman contract. Maybe you can get him and extend him? He’s the guy that can be a lead back.

Tolbert doesn’t play here. West and Ware aren’t necessarily an upgrade from Ivory but at least in the same tier. I’d be interested for sure. A trade is a better route than any street FA other than Murray.

If you could change one draft pick
Kirby Jackson replied to The Real Buffalo Joe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Graham over Wilson has to be the answer but we should stick to the 1st round or 2 at most. Stars that were drafted later were missed by everyone. Swinging and missing early sets you back. I’ll try to use just 1st rounders vs. other 1st rounders. Also i will try to take guys that made sense at the time. With that being said: - Mike Williams over Ed Reed - Whitner over Ngata - McCargo over Mangold - McKelvin over Talib - Maybin over Orakpo - Spiller over Thomas - Dareus over Julio - Gilmore over Cox - EJ over Hopkins - Sammy over Mack FWIW, we really didn’t pass on a lot of great QBs. We had a shot in 2017 at some good ones but got our guy this year. We will see how that plays out. -
What is the Bills record without Shady?
Kirby Jackson replied to N.Y. Orangeman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not saying that we should be content but the goal isn’t a wild card berth. It is a championship. The Bills are building towards a championship caliber defense IMO. Outside of Allen and Dawkins I’m not positive that any guy on offense will be crucial by the time that the Bills are ready to compete. The OL, and pass catchers need to be better and the RB younger. If Allen looks the part this year the record doesn’t matter at all to me. 2019 comes with 9 picks, $100M of cap space and potentially a franchise QB on a rookie deal. That’s a recipe for success. -

Kirby Jackson replied to N.Y. Orangeman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don’t expect this team to have a great record with or without Shady. I think that I had them at about 6-10 so if you subtract him it probably amounts to 5 or less imo. With that hat being said the focus isn’t really on this year. All that matters this year is that Allen looks the part. Shady wasn’t going to be a key figure on this team by the time they are ready to compete anyways. -
You mean like trading up to the 7th overall pick to get a guy? Don’t you think that the Bills are going to play that guy? We won’t know if he is good until he’s out there for a couple of years. They’ve already addressed QB.

This is more along the lines of what I was thinking but he appears to have carved out a nice niche as a pass catcher in Cleveland. My thought was similar in a young guy, with production, down the depth chart, in Tevin Coleman. He is a FA after this year. You can throw a pick their way (or maybe even a player) and give him a year as the lead guy. With all of the money that they are paying Freeman this is likely Coleman’s last year in Atl IMO.

Worst Buffalo Bills player of all time
Kirby Jackson replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It depends how you interpret the question but Aaron Maybin is probably the worst combination of assets and production. He was picked 11th overall as a pass rusher and had as many sacks in a Bills uniform as me. -

Marquise Goodwin buys mom/sister home

It’s really tough to totally ignore all that he’s done for his sister and others in her position. There are tons of examples of him going above and beyond. -

Yeah, last year was odd from an offensive standpoint. Statistically, they were one of the best rushing teams off all-time the year before. The Bills could run the ball and go over the top. That’s what they did well. They kept the box clean for the running game because teams respected Sammy and Goodwin’s speed. So what did they do? Added a lumbering Jordan Matthews to run 6 yard patterns. They jammed up the running game and cleared out the WR talent. Wasn’t Andre Holmes a number 2 to start the year?!? It was just weird and it failed miserably. I’d like to think that Rico was a big part of the problem and Daboll will get more out of these guys. -

It probably wasn’t my best decision. I got it a couple of years ago after a bonus check. At the time it felt like a great idea but I barely use it for fear of it being stolen. It has never made it to Mardi Gras. It’s just turned into an expensive pool bag that doesn’t hold much. It’s probably the least practical purchase I’ve ever made. In in terms of Goodwin I always liked him more than others. He had an elite skill. That is important IMO. You need to blend skill sets with your WRs. Even if he was only a deep threat, he had value. That was proven true in that he signed at the beginning of FA. He had value. He’s turned out to be a good receiver and an elite deep threat. He’s been rewarded for it. To your point, he’s another Whaley guy that got paid. -

I have the same backpack but a little bigger and I’m an insurance agent. It was about $2500. His is maybe $1500-$2000. He makes WAY more than me and I’m not in jeopardy of being broke. A $2000 backpack to him is like a regular person going to dinner at Ruth’s Chris. The players that I know (who are much dumber than Goodwin) live off the interest alone. If you want to worry about a player going broke watch the way that Shady spends. When you see the $30,000 dinner bill that’s when you worry, not when you see the $100,000 car. This isn’t the 90’s anymore though. These players are much more savvy than they used to be and receive much better care after their careers are over. -

I see a mini-van, sports car, van and an old Tahoe? I’m guessing that the sports car is his and the rover his mothers. If you think an athlete that will have made $27M+ (assuming he finishes this contract) is going to go broke over a modest house and a couple of cars I don’t think you know how much $27M is. I know athletes that made a lot less, spent as lavishly and live VERY comfortably. The guys that go broke aren’t the ones that buy 3,000 sq. foot homes for their mothers. In addition to that, based on his years of service he will get paid something like $75k (think that is the number) a year starting at 45 plus health benefits for the rest of his life. -

He just signed a $20M extension. He’ll be fine. He can afford a decent sized house and a Range Rover. Goodwin is a class guy. He’s one of the league’s “good guys.” For all of the negative that we see and hear about the NFL it is nice to have a story like this. -
Ha ha, you go see Trump. I’ll go hang out with a bunch of instagram models with low self-esteem. You’ve got a few years on me Aug but I will enjoy it. I’ll bring your son, @Boyst62, @Royale with Cheese and a couple of other degenerates. If Lawrence Taylor says “let’s party” I’ll be on the first flight.
