Yup! I am not 100% certain as to why JW is apologizing, though I think I know...and he certainly doesn't need to, in my eyes. There are a lot of people here who feel like they know how to do somebody esles' job, better than they do. When you are a reporter, and everyone else knows it, around here, I would imagine (I have read it with my own eyes) you take an awful lot of grief from people who, honestly, have no idea WTF they are talking about.

One of the (bad) results of an ownership change right now, could be a house-cleaning. I am not necessarily sold on Marrone (jury is still out for me), but I really like Whaley. I am not realistically expecting a Super Bowl win this year, but I think this team has enough talent, they should be, at the very least, in the playoff hunt for 14-15 weeks this season. Hell, they might even make it. If not, I might be a little more doubtful about Marrone. I want to see Whaley get a fair shot at the helm...for the first time since Tom Donohoe took over, I feel like the Bills are on the right track. I would hate for somebody to blow things up, just for the sake of making changes.

If by !@#$s, you mean !@#$s, I agree with you!

Not saying the Bills should have grabbed him... but the guy has some pretty intriguing talent. He had a stretch of games in Oakland last year, where I thought he actually looked like a credible NFL QB, with freakish mobility. Under the right circumstances, on a team that has the luxury (Seattle) I think this was a good move for the Seahawks. They get first dibs on a great athlete for a mere draft pick that had almost zero chance of making their squad.

My heart just sunk - RE: Kelly's cancer battle
Buftex replied to D521646's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Cancer has ravaged my family over the last couple of years. Jims prognosis does not sound good, but as most doctors will tell their patients: your cancer is your cancer, not anybody else. -
I have. Love Mike Judge. I think it has been pretty good so far (actuall saw the first two, not the most current one), though I think some of the techie stuff is lost on me. I thought the pilot was just alright, but the second episode much better. The facat that it is on Sunday nights means I will likely watch the whole season...Game Of Thrones, Mad Men, Veep, Nurse Jackie and Silcon Valley...

Discussion of The Bills Fan Alliance concept
Buftex replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The ESPN article about Reed and the Fan Alliance mentions, not only Christie and Luke Russert, but former Giant, and WNYer, Phil McConkey! I think that is pretty cool. Too bad Ron Jaworski has already endorsed Bon Jovi as the new owner of the team. He did so, completely ignoring the notion that Bon Jovi is already aligned with the Toronto group. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10817117/andre-reed-joins-group-trying-keep-buffalo-bills-city -
Yeah, he is a really good kid...and was a great pick by the Bills. The way people here are so quick to trash players, whether they struggle as rookies, or make a harmless comment, is pretty disappointing.

So, is anyone still watching "Mad Men"? It seems its' final season is being met with very little fanfare. Been some pretty great moments so far...Don and Sally's road trip, and Don an Neve Campbell on the plane... I guess the show always revolved around Don, as it should. But I have been a little disappointed with some of the other character stories...they seem much less subtle and heavy handed in trying to make their points. I did sort of get a kick out of Cooper telling Joan he shouldn't have a black woman working at the front desk..so, she gets a defacto promotion, to keep her out of view. The unintended results of bigotry on display!

The Athlon writers may have actually watched some of these guys play. I like his assesment of the Bills pick: "16. Buffalo: EJ Manuel, QB, Florida State Original Pick: EJ Manuel, QB, Florida State The only team that really had eyes on a quarterback likely wouldn’t change that game plan if it had a re-do. Mike Glennon and Geno Smith got plenty of snaps but Manuel was obviously the most game-ready and talented signal-caller in this class. He completed 58.8 percent of his passes while averaging more than 200 yards of total offense per game in 10 starts. On a bad team, Manuel appears to be the answer under center (if he can stay healthy)." Most other synopisis of EJ's rookie season make it seem as though he was just awful in every facet of the game. I reaslize they are comparing him, primarily to Geno Smith and Mike Glennon, but I just don't think he was near the disaster so many are making him out to be...not even close.

Donald Trump asked to invest in the Bills
Buftex replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Which is exactly why I don't want Donald Trump to be the owner of the Buffalo Bills. I think everybody knows that a perspective owner could probably find a more lucrative deal than they would have in Buffalo. We need somebody who realizes this, and doesn't have a history of cashing in his chips. Somebody who wants to own the team, with other ties to the area...not just to acquire another vanity piece for his collection. Sorry, I just can't believe anything Trump says with is mouth. I am relieved that Jim Kelly is being courted by numerous possible owners for the team. I would really hate my feelings about Kelly to be tied with my feelings about Trump. Of course, if it comes to that, I will live with it... but I am certainly not rooting for it. -
It would be gimmicky, and in bad taste, perhaps, if they were trying to sell the jerseys. If it was just a one-time thing, with no attempt to sell the jerseys to fans, I think it would actually be pretty cool. But, at the same time, I am very happy with the jerseys they have now.

Baby Names That Makes You Want To Punch Someone’s Face
Buftex replied to Just Jack's topic in Off the Wall Archives
There is a customer that comes to my place of work regularly...his name is Dick Hertz. Also, knew a guy from another job named Dick Hardin. -
Our store had one of its' best days ever...when I left the joint around 8pm, we at about 104 grand on the day...we did 9. 6 on Record Store Day last year...what a zoo....but good vibes all around. I am told there were about 450 people lined up to get in the store at opening time. It really never slowed down until about 7pm. The only thing I picked up were the Gram Parsons and Strummer/Pou ges vinyl, And a Nick Cave action figure! Gifts down the road...

Man...when did you start being such a buzz kill? We all realize that, ultimately, wins are what matter...but in case you didn't realize, they don't start playing real games until September. I can understand not getting too jazzed up about this...but you act like it is a negative. It is tough sometimes to keep things separate, but as long as you are still a fan of the team (and I know you are a die-hard), I find it much easier to enjoy this team if you don't hold everything bad that has happened in the last 15 years against the current team...

Don't remind me...I will be slinging vinyl at my PT job tomorrow...this has become one of those things that has gotten almost too big for its' britches! Oh well, good to see people still getting excited about buying music... If anyone is in Austin, stop by an say hello! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jQlrjfyy9o

Donald Trump asked to invest in the Bills
Buftex replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love your characterizations of the "perspective" owners (Trump is really the only one to make any public confirmation of his interest, all the rest is speculation)... we all know the Sabres had an awful season (it was partially be design if you are paying attetnion)....but let me ask you, under what other pretenses are you calling Pegula a "terrible owner"? And you are patting Trump on the back for buying a team in a somewhat fledling league (USFL) and immediately trying to sue the NFL, and compete with them, in the fall...it was what killled that league. NFL owners may appreciate Trumps gravitas, but many of his USFL co-owners did not. Trump is not known for letting things grow. Notice the caviat he put on his intentions to buy the Bills...on the one hand, he says he is prepared to get in a bidding war ("I always win bidding wars", says the Donald), but also warns that he won't pay an amount that doesn't make sense. Of course that is logical, but it makes me think that his interest is as much a call for attention, as it is serious. He is already putting qualifiers on his interest, even though he has, presumably, no competition as of yet. So, he buys the Bills...who is he going to sue? In case you aren't paying attention (which you apparently are not) Pegula is pumping a hell of a lot of his own money into that hockey franchise, and into the downtown Buffalo area. Both he, and Golisano, at least, seem to understand the need to see the city do well to protect their other business interests. -
I thought it was a cross between Alec Baldwin and Ashton Kutchner!

Donald Trump asked to invest in the Bills
Buftex replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oh my gosh....you can't unsee something! For some reason that reminds me of a dead gold fish you flush down the toilet Korheiser said pretty much what you said, on PTI. I just don't want an owner that is a sideshow...it will be amusing to the rest of the world, but I think it would kill me. Oh well,,,whatever he does, it will be the "ugest" and best ever...I am so sure! Even on PTI, though, Kornheiser did question weather other NFL owners would approve him, and wondered how strong the lure of Toronoto or LA would be. I am so ready for somebody else to be "interested" in buying the Buffalo Bills. -
Donald Trump asked to invest in the Bills
Buftex replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think those who object are merely hoping for somebody else. You sound like Don Draper... the only descriptions you leave out in describing the "Trump brand" are combativeness, boorishness and tackiness. Nobody here has ever said they wouldn't root for the team if Trump were the owner (those words have been put in their mouth by others), we are all just hoping for a better option. There is really nothing in the guys history that suggests he is a man of his word... so, for me any ways, that is a pretty big risk to take with something I hold pretty dear to my heart, the Buffalo Bills. We will all take the Trump chance if that is our only option, but we aren't going to just bend over and take it, because he says he will keep the team in Buffalo. Hell, before Ralph Wilson became a deity, there were plenty who rooted for his team for years, despite their feelings about him. Donald Trump isn't going to make me stop rooting for the Buffalo Bills. But I certainly reserve the right to wish for somebody else to own the team. To be fair to him, he is the only person talking about this subject, in public. His statements are full of the gravitas one would associate with the guy. Yes, he is successful, but his failures have been well chronicled over the years. His character in business dealings have been questioned over and over... he is thought of as much of a flim-flam man, with lots of financial resources, as he is some sort of genius business master. He is the first candidate that we are sure is interested, doesn't mean he is the only candidate, or the best. If you are a Bills fan, I wouldn't discount, so easily, his personality. Nothing to do with politics or anything else...but does he have the kind of personality you want to own your team? I want a team that is making headlines for winning on the field, not one that is constantly in the news for its' behind the scenes acrimony. I really can't envision a Trump owned team any other way. Even in the statements he is making, in regards to ownership of the team, it is clear that this is all about him. I just imagine George Steinbrenner x100. Sure, the Yankees won some titles under Steinbrenner, but there was about 2 decades of pretty lean years mixed in there after some initial success. Firing coaches on a whim, arguing salaries with players through the press... can Buffalo really afford that? Steinbrenner never had any financial concerns....if Trump is serious about keeping his new toy/vanity project in Buffalo, he will have to worry a bit more about being fiscally responsible to make it work for years to come... restraint is not a word one normally associates with the man. Sorry, from all the evidence I see (and I realize, we are all just speculating on this, no matter our feelings on the guy), I just think it has train-wreck written all over it. Trump, in expressing his interest, was clear to state that as much as he wants to own the team, he will only make an offer that is reasonable... so, say that offer lands him the team... he owns the team for 5 years, or however long...all the sudden he starts hearing about all the money he could be making in Los Angeles (a city that he would be perfect for)... you think he is going to be pledging his allegiance to Buffalo still? I just find it hard to fathom... even if you listen to all the national media types speaking on this subject, they all pretty much dismiss his promise to keep the team in Buffalo, and imagine how the Trump thing will go over in Los Angeles or Toronto. More than a few risks associated with this guy... -

Buftex replied to BillsFan-4-Ever's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I mean sophisticated in the sense that he rarely breaks character... I would imagine, in some ways, he is relived to let the character go. His "wag of the finger" segments are some of my favorites....a complete parody of O'Reilly's "last word" (or whatever he calls it) segments. And, to be honest, as much as he obviously rips conservatives, his targets are quite often are ones that serious conservatives have no use for either. I wouldn't expect him to be everyone's cup of tea, so I am not going to go at lengths to sell anybody on him. I am just pretty sure that I won't enjoy him doing a traditional night time talk show as much as I have the Colbert Report over the last 8 years or so.
