Donald Trump asked to invest in the Bills
Buftex replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You and me both. Of course he would be in favor of the Bills moving to Toronto. It is absolutely in tune with his daily schtick....he openly admits that his only loyalties in sports are to winners and "entertainment value". I haven't listened to him since GR55 started Hockey Hotline...but I used to listen for about 30-60 minutes of his show everyday, for a few years... I am convinced that he is the worst sports talk radio person, at national or local level, that I have ever heard. He always seemed to have an itch up his ass about "angry middle age white east-coast, snow-belt sports fans." I remember years ago he would rip Lebron James on a daily basis...until he went to Miami for his superteam...tben he became a full time Lebron ass kisser, and just started ripping Cleveland fans who were mad at him. Cowherd epitomizes everything I have come to loathe about ESPN in the last 5 years or so. You and me both. Of course he would be in favor of the Bills moving to Toronto. Donald Trump asked to invest in the Bills
Buftex replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
One can only hope. I am not going to claim I will not root for this team if Trump buys them... but, other than somebody buying them to move them, Trump is the worst case scenario. I am so hoping that Pegula, Jacobs or Golisano (in that orger) get into the mix. I can't imagine that one of them won't. -

I'm interested in buying the Bills. I plan on calling tomorrow to make a "best offer"... and I will keep the team in Buffalo. -
Speaking of which..if anybody has any Bills games from 1980, 1981 or 1982 and is interested in trading copies, I am likely to have something you would enjoy! Also, looking for a watchable copy of the 1984 Bills-Dolphins shootout (Bills won in OT, Marino's first start)...a couple years ago, I transferred all my old games from VHS to DVD (took me about 2 years to do!), and some of the old VHS did not age well...this was one of them...perfect audio, but picture pretty much faded to white, with a greenish tint...

Yup...no dilly-dallying between plays. I use that feature sometimes, on my lunch break from work, during the season, to watch other games from around the league that seem interesting to me. You can watch every play of a game (even the un-meainingful ones) on your lunch break! Gotta admitt, maybe I am too ADD, but the coaches film thing is a cool idea, and I may be pathetic...but I just can't watch a whole game like that...

Better Draft Day (s) coverage: ESPN or NFLN?
Buftex replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I believe there has been similar interest in Kiper over the years. The thing that impresses me most about Mayock is that he speaks very authoritative, but he seems to have a sense of humor about the whole thing. But let me ask (and I am asking this an honest question, not to be a smart ass), has he ever been right about something that everybody else was wrong about? The guy I really like, on FOX Sports Radio, is Chris Landry. He was a one time scout for the Browns and Saints... but that is radio. -

Yeah, I don't get the Rich Eisen love either...I think he is what made me stop watching ESPN on a regular basis. -

Buftex replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't understand the love for Mike Mayock. I don't hate him or anything (though he is/was gawd-awful on Thursday Night Football games), but is he really that much more knowledgable, or truly insightful, than anybody else? I must say, I have grown to pretty much loathe the NFL Network. It is unbelievably bad... it could be so much better in my opinion. I guess I don't have a strong prerference one way or another for ESPN or NFLN draft coverage....though I think I would gravitate toward ESPN, perhaps more out of comfort than anything. I know, people hate Kiper (and there is plenty to not like about him), but for me, he is synonymous with the NFL draft... sure he is as wrong as often as he is right...but the whole thing is a guessing game. -

Ha ha...we disagree on most everything in this thread. But, I still like you! You are missing the nuance with Lettermen, and the appluase, suck-up thing... I think it is common with all these guys, at some point they do start going through the motions to a degree. That is a valid criticism of Letterman. People said the same thing about Carson about 10 years before he hung it up. I don't find Jimmy Fallon or Seth Myers very funny at all, but I will give Fallon credit in that he is very enthusiastic, and has had some great musical bits over the years. To be fair, I think I have only seen Myers twice...but was not overly impressed. Whatever edge Fallon had will be dulled by his new time-slot. It happens to all of them. Believe it or not, before he took over the Carson show, Jay Leno was considered edgy, and one of the better stand-up comics around. Leno on the old Letterman show was "can't miss" tv, when there was still "can't miss" tv. Ultimately, the only part of any of these shows that is possibly worth watching is the first 20 minutes or so...none of them are great interviewers...but most of the guests are vapid, uninteresting people....so you get what you get. The "talk" aspect of the shows have been lost over the years. -
Keep in mind, I just lost my girlfriend of 12 years...my Bills obsession might have played a small part...you are traveling a dangerous path my friend...

ESPN Poll regarding Buffalo Bills
Buftex replied to DallasBillsFan1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, I sat through an entire of hour of Total Access on the NFL Network, for their AFC East preview. Each team in the division had a special report with an off-site correspondent...except the Bills. The only time they mentioned the Bills as being part of the division was when they took phone calls (all sounded scripted to me)...a question about each team, from a different caller. The Bills question, from a female caller, was something like "What do the Bills have to do to get out of last place in the division...and please, don't let the Bills move to Toronto." First, the busty lady host (can't remember her name) answers the Toronto comment with "move them to LA"....then the panel of "experts", who seem fairly well versed in the Patriots, Jets and Dolphins come up with "they lost Byrd, Peters, that linebacker that went to Jacksonville....Lynch...they need to keep their talented players." Charley Casserly, on the panel, was the only one who gave any indication that he was actually familiar with the team we have in 2014.... he ripped Manuel, but said he still thought Marrone was the right coach, and they had enough talent to challenge for a playoff spot...now back to the Patriots. BTW- in case you missed it Chesty McCallahan did apologize for her "Bills to LA joke", in a rather condescending way "I know I am going to get a of hate mail from Bills fans for my joke, but it was just a joke...everybody in the NFL wants the Bills to stay in Buffalo"...now back to the Patriots and Jets coverage... Funny thing was, after they previewed all the teams (except the Bills), they had all their correspondents on for a wrap up...again, no mention of the Buffalo Bills. I kind of expect this stuff from ESPN...and I know, the Bills are losers, and "respect" won't come until they start winning more than they lose, but you would think the network devoted to the league would do a better job of covering all 32 teams, as opposed to the same 10 teams, over and over again. Oh, shoot, gotta go, NFL NETWORK is showing the first Patriots/Giants Super Bowl...AGAIN!!!! It has only been on about 4 times in the last two weeks....can't wait to relive it all again.... -
Some observations about potential new ownership

Sure, but Carlin was way too dirty for tv...Letterman made that comedy much more palatable, and it seeped its' way (for better or worse) into mainstream culture. -

jboyst, generally, I think the strengths of all of these guys come from the bits they do, not the celebrity interviews. Colbert will be great with those, I have no doubt...but by going to a mainstream network, he is going without his best weapon, political satire. I have no doubt his liberal slant will come out in his material (just like Letterman, just like Leno, Conan, etc etc), but it won't be his main crutch. Colbert was a comedian before he did the character on the "Colbert Report", I have no doubt he is any less able to carry a show of this type as say Jimmy Fallon, or Seth Myers... I know you are a big Kimmell fan. I like him too...but if I do watch, it is really just the first 20 minutes or so...once the interviews start, I am done. Do you remember the very first year or so, of the Kimmell show? I thought it was fantastic, and much more interesting and daring than what he does now, in his earlier time-slot. He couldn't get A-list celebrities then, so he would instead get "cult" figures as guests, people with a very limited profile. He would also have a guest co-host each week... like Mike Douglas used to do, way back. The weeks he has with Mike Tyson, Sarah Silverman, and unkown (at the time) comic Zach Galifinakos were some of the best late night tv in years. -

PastJoe, I reallly don't think you get Letterman...like a lot of people. I admit, while I was once a huge fan of his (and still consider myself a fan), I just have little use for these shows in general anymore. What people don't realize, Letterman has been far more influential on culture than any of his peers... he made sarcasm a mainstream aspect of comedy. I would honestly say, if it hadn't been for Letterman, there wouldn't have been a "Seinfeld" show. When you see audiences flipping out over Dave's every little nuance, that is part of the whole thing. Letterman's shtick was always to make a huge event out of the most mundane events, kind of pointing out how silly, and pre-fabricated almost everything is, in this day and age. -
I think I am out on all this speculation, until somebody has confirm that somebody has actually made an offer to purchase the team. It is fun to speculate, but when all of the sudden, the "front-runner" has supposedly dropped out of consideration (you mean Jacobs never heard the rule about owning another franchise, until this week?), and we are having to argue the merits of who would be a better owner for us, Trump or Bon Jovi....well...when the answer is Trump, we are treading into wrist slashing territory... this is all too depressing.

I am firmly in that camp that feels it is still too early to tell. I don't think he was nearly the train-wreck that so many seem to feel he was... but I do have some concerns still. I am inclined to feel good about him, though. By my own count, he had two really outstanding games, 2 truly awful games, and the rest were kind of a mixed bag. A big part of his problems, as far as i am concerned, came from just being too tentative. I just think, as his comfort grows, his decision making will be quicker, and he will be more effective. Having seen some of his college games, for instance, while he wasn't a super fast runner, he didn't lumber, like he did with the Bills this year...like he decides to run the ball, and then mid-stride, is wondering if he made the right decision. More starts, more playing time, and I just feel like we will start to see the benefits of his superior athletic skills. Like most, I have some concerns with his accuracy....but, again, I think this will improve. He may never be Joe Montana in this area, but with the team speed this team is playing with on offense, he should be able to hook up more often down field. Also, I think the OC needs to develop a better, more consistent way of getting the running backs involved in the passing game. I'm all in on EJ for 2014!

Yes. I typically watch the games live, at a sports bar, with fellow Bills fans... a ritual I appreciate almost as much as the games themselves. What I find, as I get older, and as there is easier access to things on line, is that I do tend to miss certain nuances of the games while watching at the bar. Just small things...but the kinds of things that seem to shape so many opinions of players, coaches, etc. So, unless it is just such a miserable game (say the Falcons or Bucs games this past season) I will normally log into NFL Rewind the week following the games, and re- watch them in chunks during the following week. It may be a waste of time to some... but football is one of the few things that I honest to goodness enjoy still, so screw those who criticize you for it. I also not embarrassed to admit, I have close to 200+ games on DVD... I have been known from time to time to just grab a random game, say, from 1988, and just throw it in the player... sometimes I just leave it playing in the backround as I am doing other things around the house.... it enjoy it. I also find, especially in this really dark era of Bills football, second viewings tend to make me see more of the good things, than the bad, which are always easy to remember. For instance, after re-watching this past season, I am not nearly as hopeless about EJ as I might have been otherwise... I tend to forget, especially after listening/reading all the negative comments that typically follow a losing effort, the kid did some things pretty well.

Lopez already tried and failed. But I agree with your point. I am actually kind of surprised they didn't go with a female. Saw that Rush Limbaugh is flipping out about Colbert getting the Letterman show...so I am warming up to it a little more..but I doubt I will watch much, unless there is a great musical guest...now Sarah Silverman I would watch. -
