Russ Brandon - keep him or fire him?
LabattBlue replied to Spurna's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow. I didn't like Brandon much before I read this, and l like him even less now. -
^^^ This! I've been told many professional sports franchises do thing differently, but I guess I just feel more strongly about traditional organizational structures.

As the ads for the National Enquirer used to say..."Enquiring minds want to know..."

Even better...how about Jim Kelly? Please bring back BBMB!

Best available veteran FA's that might fit for Bills
LabattBlue replied to BeastMode54's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Does anyone really believe that when trying to put together the best team possible, that the GM says "Oh, we can't sign this player...he can help us, but we would lose out on a compensatory pick". Who freakin' cares! -
That problem could have been avoided IF they had hired a GM first. Im just hoping they get it right, because if they don't, and fire the GM and HC again, that will take us to the 20 year mark of the drought.

Most Exciting Last Minute of a Bills game ever?
LabattBlue replied to Another Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not sure how much action took place in the last minute, but the craziest game I was ever at... Bills vs. Raiders MNF 1974 Opener. Several 4th quarter lead changes, and the game ended with George Blanda missing a long FG attempt. [edited]Game detail I just found... Friday, September 20, 2002 Sept. 16, 1974 -- Oakland at Buffalo ABC Sports Online Ahmad Rashad's second touchdown in the final two minutes lifted the Bills past John Madden's Raiders. Rashad's first score came with 1:56 to go. Buffalo seemed to have the game clinched, but Jim Braxton fumbled the ball and Art Thoms ran in for a touchdown to give Oakland a 20-14 lead with 1:15 to go. Rashad then took a Joe Ferguson pass 33 yards to give the Bills the lead. Oakland had one final chance to win it, but George Blanda missed a 50-yard field goal on the final play. -
Russ Brandon - keep him or fire him?
LabattBlue replied to Spurna's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't like Russ, and I think he weaseled his way up to the top of not 1 but 2 major league sports franchises. That being said, this thread is pointless, Russ is not going anywhere until... 1 - He kicks the bucket 2 - He retires 3 - He does something stupid in the eyes of the Pegula's, and they fire him. No matter which option I look at, he isn't going anywhere for a long long time. -
Bills Claim CB Charles James From Waivers
LabattBlue replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He is going to channel the powers of two former Bills CB's...Charles Romes & Robert James! -
One thing is for sure...with all the Pegula Bucks they are walking away with, neither of them are crying in their beer.

if ever there was a time I wish I was a fly on the wall...or in this case, a fly on the bar. I wonder if Ole Whitey aka The Son of Satan was the one who snapped the picture?? Ted Nolan?? Rex?? Regier? Ruff?? Lafontaine? Jauron? Marrone? Hail hail the gangs all here, what the heck do we care...

How do you view McDermott's role in the GM situation?
LabattBlue replied to BILLiever55's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Seriously...you thing it doesn't matter who the GM is? - Who is going to hire a competent scouting staff of 20-25 people? - Who is going to build the draft big board? - Who is going to scour the waiver wire and F/A market as training camp progresses into the season? - Who is dealing with the decisions for extending contracts? A first time HC who will be up to his eyeballs in game prep and everything else involved in coaching a football team? Yeah...you're right. Probably doesn't matter. -
What wrs likely to make the team?
LabattBlue replied to Bill_with_it's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hope so. This looks to me like last year...Sammy + a bunch of other teams castoffs + a couple of draft picks who have never played an NFL down(and you know how difficult the transition is from college to pros for WR's). Here's hoping there is a diamond in the rough somewhere in that depth chart. -
It's all coach speak. The only positions up for grab are the ones where the starters SUCK.

LabattBlue replied to BILLiever55's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It will be interesting to know how the responsibilities between GM and HC are split up,but chances are we won't find out. More than likely, the answers at the PC for the GM hiring will be..."it will be a collaborative team effort". Oh well...I guess the only thing that matters is they find a QB and start winning again. -
Don't think for a minute that if the Browns finish in the bottom 5(which they more than likely will), that they won't draft a franchise QB. Taking Kizer in the 2nd round isn't going to stop them from doing that...unless Kizer pulls a Wilson or Prescott.

Question about Russ and his dual team president role...
LabattBlue replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My question in the first post has been answered. I thought as OP, I could close the thread, but that must have changed at some point over the years. This thread has gone downhill. Mods...feel free to close. -
Damn...the Bills War Room had to be on pins and needles for the last couple of weeks. And over the weeks leading into the draft, McDermott’s growing influence became obvious to all inside the building. The new coach was empowered to pull prospects off the board who didn’t fit the character parameters he was looking for. With a GM left in limbo, it was increasingly the coach’s show. And while McDermott wasn’t running the draft, nothing was happening without his O.K.

5 QBs, only 3 will be retained.
LabattBlue replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Yates is not the #2, I would expect they scan the waiver wire come August looking for a vet backup, just in case the season goes well. If so, they would want a proven vet in case TT goes down. The only exception would be if Peterman just knocked their socks off in training camp and the preseason games. -

Thanks for the info! -
So who hired him Pegula or Whaley? Or is that dependent on how McD fares?

I have TJ as the backup. -

If you are replying to my OP, I wasn't implying that he has anything to do with day to day football operations. Seems so odd, but based on your post, obviously does happen. Whether or not any of them are successful in their roles, who knows. -

If Peterman shows anything, no way he is going to the PS. As far as Cardale goes, if he gets "poached", then so be it. IMO he was nothing more than a longshot to even be a career backup. Time may prove me wrong. -
No apology necessary! I have my share of moments where I'm over the top with my postings.
