McBeane and the hiring of coaching assistants

I wonder if Jeff Scott is getting tired of the college coaching game. Daboll should sweeten the pot by offering him the WR coach and Passing Game Coordinator title. https://clemsontigers.com/coaches/jeff-scott/ -
He is still a high-level player. I know its hard to believe at 36 but he can still cover TEs and most running backs and is aces against the run. I have watched him the last 5 years (live in NC) and have been waiting for a drop off-- there has been none. I offer him 2 years at $6 million ($2.5 million SB and base salaries of $1.75 million per year) and make the same offer to Lorax. Get both and let them share the position. This is one ex-Panther I really hope we get...

Two shot wonder - Jets and Bills. I don't think with Rex's girth he could jump the shark literally, but I think he has figuratively as an NFL coach.

Just got a stadium survey from the Bills

Wonder what @Dunkirk Don answered? Worried about his ROI on those downtown properties he holds. I also said I would spend about $5K more on the Bills a year than I currently spend. My wife is going to keeeeelll me... ? -

The Tide has lost two of their last three title games (Sorry @Sky Diver)-- Kiffin/Sarkisian-L; Locksley-L; Daboll-W -- just stating facts. Nick is not exactly an offensive guru--although the kicker as a lead blocker play showed some innovative thinking. I love exchanges like this @C.Biscuit97 The results won't be known until a couple of years from now. I hope the Cardinals give Kliff time. I loved him as a player.. My other questions... 1) Does this move mean NFL life for Johnny Football??? 2) Does Mike Leach become Kliff's OC and mentor??? 3) Does Larry Fitzgerald play another year???

I get it...Daboll has had horrible offenses whenever he has coordinated in the pros. He won a national championship in college as an OC with an inferior QB for 13.5 of 14 games. You are basing so much on Kingsbury in College -- what about Daboll working with Tua --- BTW, Tua didn't look the same last night. How do you go from a guy with superior instincts to a player who can't recognize a blitz in one year?? Might have something to do with coaching.

The way Kingsbury handled Mayfield's injury at Tech is classic NFL football. Next man up and if that man performs better kick the incumbent to the curb. He already has that mentality. This may work out...he might have a better record as a pro coach than a college coach. The Cardinals need to invest in a really experienced staff and build a real O-line for Rosen. Rosen needs a great O-line more than Allen to realize his potential.

These coaching searches are making me feel blessed to have Sean McDermott as the Bills coach and Brian Daboll as the Bills OC....nothing against Kingsbury or Kitchens or Stefanski but I am thinking this QB whisperer/genius Offense Schemer thing has gone too far...

Flawed process for hiring head coach
JoeF replied to chris heff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think you nailed the Bills. I'll add one thing...I think McDermott knew Beane would push back on him if he disagreed with him on any move. I suspect they have a relationship that I would term is "brotherly" where they can disagree, vehemently sometimes, but still be family. -
I will be renewing....I think this is 15 years. Still waiting for that home playoff game.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/denver-broncos/von-miller-7717/ Signed through 2022 with base salaries of $17 million; $17.5 million and $17.5 million for the next three seasons....His contract would be up the same year the Bills would have to renew Josh Allen and Tremaine Edmunds and the year after Tre White's renewal kicks in.... -
All valid. My counter would be: 1) Firing Dennison in-season could have been seen in two ways. Would you work for a rookie coach with happy in-season trigger finger? I think McD probably considered it and said, I will let him complete the year. McD couldn't attract his top choices which is sad but partly due to the situation he inherited. He was stuck and got out of it as quickly as he could. 2) Peterman- he only started out of desperation after the Ravens game. A lot of people other than McD thought Peterman won the job in camp. 3) Benjamin-I totally agree -- about 6 weeks too late. 4) Trent and Star -- The Bills gave up the second lowest amount of yards in the league.....they both contributed albeit Murphy was constantly injured. Overpay -- I guess we will see this offseason. Did you want them cut in-season? I am willing to give them one more year on these two. You may want to relook at how many running plays Star took up two blockers. I did this weekend and found the results surprising-- like greater than 50%..He's not Aaron Donald, he's not even a downslide Suh...but he may be what the Bills paid him to be-- a run stuffer who takes up two blockers.

If your point is that firing assistant coaches admits mistakes and takes heat off the GM and the coach by placing blame elsewhere, I agree. I do think its a little optimistic to think that every staff hire is going to be brilliant and every player personnel move is going to work out swimmingly. It's not really the way it works. Even Belichick makes mistakes in assistant coach hiring and player moves. One of the emerging strengths of the current regime is admitting errors and cutting bait (Benjamin, etc.). I think Terry and Kim have created the environment that allows this as long as they see progress toward the vision.
